omgomg i really cant thank you enough for this video..this is JUST the thing i need to look forward to soon after all this...how lovely..and doable for a disabled person who cant drive...THANKS!!!
EXCELLENT musical choices when transitioning throughout the vlog. A l m o s t felt like I was there, almost. LOVE the sound of the frogs in the background, too, at the end. So good! :)
I love, love, love the Skunk train. So glad you got to ride it. First time on it I was twelve, then again with my oldest sone when he was three. We went in the summer and it was packed. I forgot how much I love the Red Woods. Beautiful photos🌺🌺🌺
I stopped off at the Skunk Train a few years back, but it wasn't running that day. Thanks for letting me live it vicariously. And you are right about 101, it was a great road to drive: so scenic.
Really enjoyed this video. Such a beautiful part of America and so many quaint and special places along the way. My bucket list for sure. Thanks for taking us all along.
I love you guys me and my wife watch your videos all the time. I am a big fan of what you guys are doing . We just got back from grand central station and all the Los Angeles sights . I think you guys should get your own show I would most definitely watch. I support your travels and just love your chemistry. Be safe 😁
Thanks for the ride! Many, many summers as a kid on Hwy 101, playing in the redwoods and beaches. Sorry about the snow in western Washington, we don't often get it, we held off until you guys got here :) Enjoy the most beautiful State in the Union!! Stop by Shelton for a visit! Really not much here ;) but we do have oyster farms if you like them and a cool bridge way out in the woods. Safe travels!!!!
They could have ridden the Skunk Train from Fort Bragg to Willits instead of driving. I'm not sure why they didn't, other than the round trip takes most of a day. Still, when one travels for a living, spending an extra day in Fort Bragg wouldn't be the worst thing to ever happen. In fact, it might have been really good, because Fort Bragg is actually a very cool and interesting town. Glass Beach isn't the ONLY point of interest in town. Great town for seafood!
You guys are not too far from my home town. About 20 miles south of Willits, on Hwy 101, is Ukiah. I was born and raised there. There wasn't much for a job there, so I moved to the Bay Area and settled on the S.F. Peninsula. Did I hear you mention in a video that you two are from the Bay Area? It's a nice place to live, however, it was less hectic when I moved here in 1971. Thanks for the videos! I really enjoy seeing places that I never will. Thanks again!
Last summer, I rode the Skunk Train and drove through the Chandelier Tree. I was the dumbass in a rental car that dinged up the rear-view mirror because I realized 1 second too late that you should pull them in.
So fun to watch you two. We would like to contribute to your adventure. If you need a place to stay in Del Norte County, take a look at River and Redwoods Airbnb. We are halfway between San Francisco and Portland, and just outside Redwood National Park.
Just so you know, the large, old-growth redwoods ARE (mostly) protected now. Only small redwood trees are harvested these days, unless they find a large one that is diseased that will eventually kill it and the surrounding trees. When I was a kid (in the 60s) we took all our vacations in the redwoods and it was not unusual to see a logging truck with only one GIANT redwood log, 8 to 10 feet in diameter, on it. Now you NEVER see that. The redwoods they harvest now are about the size of a telephone pole, for the most part.
@calichef1962 - I am a few years younger than you, raised in PDX w/logging family in Eureka, McKinleyville & Arcata & I spent aLOT of time there growing up & you are correct - most of the old growth trees are now protected, unless sick, but I remember the same as you - my grandfather was a logger when I was small and seeing ONE tree fill a log trailer compared to the 20 or so today, was just amazing. VERY sad how we logged SO MANY of those majestic trees, but there are still many left to enjoy and study.
At this point, climate change poses a greater threat than logging to the redwood trees. Redwoods have shallow roots and absorb most of their water from fog. With a warmer climate, there's less fog, so the trees won't get as much water. We're already seeing the effects of this.
You guys rock! That looked like so much fun. Ever consider a railpass? Not sure it would be financially viable in the US, but the EU ones are really great.
So did you end up going on the 199 out of Crescent City to Grants Pass and the 5 or drive up the coast staying on the 101? Both approaches have their charm. The central Oregon drive is much faster especially once you get on the I-5 but the 101 is by far prettier if you like rugged coastline.
A rather strange comment. Did you get triggered by the title and not watch the video or something? They only drank one beer each, hardly "all about the booze".
charliemac I don't drink but don't mind if others do, they just seem to make that a BIG focus of their videos. It's not for me. If you don't mind. Go ahead. You're entitled to your opinion, just like I am . Notice YOU'RE the one doing the bullying...
Mike why is it strange? I don't drink and don't enjoy watching others do so either. My opinion. You're entitled to yours. Stop bullying me for my opinion!
