This video takes you to the beautiful mountain town of Boquete, Panama. We toured on e-bikes, visited a coffee plantation, a butterfly house, ate at some great restaurants and stayed at these incredible grass covered bungalows. It is no wonder so many expats call this the best place in the world to retire and backpackers come from all over world to stay at amazing hostels, like Bambuda Castle. Subscribe and follow along on our 10-yr journey around the world. Safe travels, John and Bev

Thanks so much and congrats on your upcoming retirement. We hope we are inspiring new travel ideas and adventures. Keep us posted and safe travels. John and Bev
I enjoyed your travel in Boquete. You do a nice variety of activities. The hobbit homes were so magical. My husband and I subscribed and are hoping to retire in 11 months from now. Happy and safe travel. Jill and Stuart🤗
Thanks and so glad you enjoyed the video. Congrats on your retirement! The little hobbit bungalows were cool. We did enjoy our time in Boquete. Stay warm up north and keep in touch. John and Bev
Enjoy. it is a beautiful country. We made a few other videos you can check out. Definitely do the Panama Canal tour. It was so interesting. Boquete was our favorite. Don’t forget that summer is “rainy season”, so be prepared. Safe travels, John and Bev
We are planning our move to Panama within the year, and just love you two!! What an adventurous couple you are! I love the enthusiasm you have for the country, the food, the roads. Thank you for showing us what to do In Boquete, and how to have fun in a coffee plantation! Love to you both, from Nancy & Ron in Toronto, Canada 🥰
Thank you so much for following along on our adventures. Be sure to check out our Colombia videos as well. Medellin is also a nice expat city with incredible weather, great healthcare and low cost of living. It really opened our eyes to various options. Hope you have an awesome day. John and Bev
@@michaelweber9636 There was a dark side to Panama that you don't see until you stay a few months. We went down in October 2022, and returned Jan 28th, 2023. It was freezing cold when we got back into Toronto, but I could have kissed the ground when I got outside of the terminal!! There were far too many reasons that we didn't feel comfortable there, with the biggest factor being there are no accommodations for elderly people who need care. So if you're healthy and you want to move there, they will tell you how cheap the medical care is, but when you get down there, that is only for local clinics. I never saw one elderly person on the street in 3 months. There are very few accommodations for wheelchairs in stores, except for the new malls in Panama City. There are no sidewalks, no safety regulations, etc. We are 65, and know that eventually we might need more care in our home, but there are no agencies to call. You have to put out the word, and hope that someone knows someone, who will come and live with you. The police stop women travelling alone on the highway, and fine them on the spot for "speeding". The woman who ran our travel group was stopped (she's lived there 12 years), and told her fine was $50 US cash, OR they could take her to court. She paid the money and they let her go. Another woman in our group experienced the same thing, but she didn't have $50 cash. They kept her there quite awhile deciding what to do as she only had $20. They finally took the $20 and let her go. The government can make a new rule with 2 days notice too. When we were there, they decreed that starting in two days there was no walking on the beach after 6:00 p.m. No explanation, just you can't do it. People were fuming because they had million dollar homes on the beaches, and they were being told they couldn't even have a bonfire or walk along their beach. There were military boats, and helicopters flying up and down the beach often daily. The whole environment made me a nervous wreck. I love Canada, and I'll put up with the 4 seasons, for the safety and care that I'll get when I need more health care as I get older. Sorry this wasn't more positive, but this was our experience.
Boquete was SO beautiful! The grass cover mountain side hotel looked like it was from a storybook 😍 Loved the prices there and the awesome experiences…so fun!!
I’m enjoying my morning cup of coffee while watching! What a process those beans go through, we’ve never been to a coffee farm! Looks like a beautiful town! Food too looked amazing! Great video guys! John you’ve got the moves!!! 🕺🕺~Cara 😃
Thanks so much. Boquete is a fun town that you guys should consider sometime. And yes John has been practicing his moves 🤣😉 Enjoy your morning brew. John and Bev ❤️
i visited in September 2019 and had a blast! the people are so friendly, warm and kind - i really love the Panamian people; they are the ones who make the country great!👏🏼👍🏼❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much. We loved Boquete and had a great time throughout Central America. Have fun in Panama. Boquete has many expats, great restaurants and things to do. Hope you can follow along on our adventures around the world and let us know how your trip goes. Many blessings and safe travels in 2022. John and Bev
Thanks so much for watching and hope you will follow us around the world. You will enjoy your visit to Boquete. We’ve enjoyed our time in Panama and Costa Rica. Many blessings to you and your family in 2022. John and Bev
Another great video! Loved traveling to Boquete with you! Beautiful! Nice haircut 💇🏻 (and price). Thanks for sharing the restaurant. I love Peruvian cuisine. Yum 😋 I’m subscribed & looked forward to more videos around the world.
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it. This was a fun town with plenty to do and places to eat. Our month in Panama was very successful and enjoyable. So glad you are joining us for our trip around the world.
I really enjoyed seeing the Hobbit house! We have watched lots of British homebuilding shows that attempt houses like that. It’s interesting to see them in Central America! Very “green” in both meanings 💚💚
Great video! We really enjoyed seeing Boquete. We have heard good things about that area. We really liked that Airbnb you stayed in and can’t wait to continue the journey with you both!
I loved this video! You guys just gained a new subbie! You two seem like really great people to know. Your energy and smiles are infectious😊 Can't wait to see more!
Thank you so much for the kind comments. Glad you can join us for our journey around the world! Thanks again and hope you have a wonderful 2022. John and Bev
Thanks for the video, I would have loved to hear your interview/tour of the coffee farm so we could have learned a little too. Also tell us how the foods & drinks taste, what kind of flavors you're experiencing. Great job on the editing and narration. Keep it up, enjoy your trips and be safe!
Those "hobbit homes" were adorable. Wow, that's a lot of expats. Very pretty trumpet flowers. No trumpet flowers anywhere in the house. So much fun watching you two experience South America.
Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed the videos and thanks for the great question. The Peruvian restaurant was amazing food, drinks, dessert and tip for under $70 total. The coffee tour was $35 each and the ebike tour was $50 each and included a beer at the end. We think all were reasonable and fun. Hope this helps. John and Bev
Neat video guys hope you are having a great time in Panama 🇵🇦, we loved visiting there and had an amazing 🚢 cruise through the Panama Canal have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🇺🇸🍺🇨🇦
Thanks. We had an absolutely wonderful time in Panama. The Panama Canal is pretty amazing and we will be showing some things next week. Thanks for the note and have a wonderful weekend! John and Bev
Okay, that dance at the end - no option had subscribe. LOL, thank you for sharing, and I am currently booking trip to Boquete, so information was helpful.
One of the best/captivating video I have watched. Well done! AND. the best looking couple sharing interesting experiences 👍👍. Enjoy your travels and keep sharing 🙏.
@@RetirementTravelers well, as a matter of fact, we had a meeting with our Accountant last week whom told us we can retire even earlier.....so, it's been brought forward by a whole 5 months, whoop whoop! The countdown has been reset...571 days to go, yay 😁
@@RetirementTravelers Darren plans to take 2 mths long service in May 2023 then we'll both retire on June 30th. 1st of July we'll put our 3 Newman houses on the market and then party time...

Thanks for watching and hope you can follow along with us around the world. We love incorporating music into our videos. That song is called, “I like it when I’m with you (ooh la la)” by Norman. Thanks again and have a great day. John and Bev
Thanx - love that song!! I've been following The Nomadic Movement and they are in Boquete - well outside of it somewhere. But am looking into retiring there. Can't take the heat, so it sounds better there. Many things to look into..... Thx again......
geez it took an hour to ride the bus to Boquete? There must have been a lot of stops... I took a tour of Panama in February, and it was absolutely fabulous. How long do you plan to stay? Thanks for all the little things .... I wasn't there long enough to see and do all those things. Gotta remember the ebike ride when I go back.
Thanks for the note and following along with us. The experience of riding with the locals on the bus was well worth the extra stops! We spent a month in Panama and loved it. John and Bev
I was stationed at Ft. Sherman back in the early 90's. That being said, I've been all over the world and knew then I'd be retiring there. I married a Japanese/Swedish woman who speaks five different languages and I build canister homes. Maybe another year and we'll be down 👍
Those trumpet flowers are Scopolamine. Very deadly seeds that causes walking amnesia. Crooks can barely give the victim a slight whiff to the unsuspecting, and you will empty your ATM account and rob you blind. You wake up the next morning not remembering a thing. Great video on the Vice You tube channel.
Hi John n Bev! Greetings from Malaysia! Your adventures, my dream! ❤ Found your vlogs by chance and have been watching your vlogs non stop! Hahahahaa....of cuz I immediately subbed! Love the enthusiasm and energy from you guys! Safe travels to you both and look forward to more adventures....
That looks like a great place. We toured a coffee farm in Kona, Hawai'i. It was very interesting learning about the process, which is pretty extensive in Kona for the coffee to be considered certified Kona coffee.
John! How they did get a photo of you for their wall? Those ebikes looked awesome! Never tried one, but they look like the way to get around. Akane would love to do something like this. We did something similar in Cuba in our latest video with chocolate! Love learning how they do things - although I am not a coffee drinker. I think John and I had the same dance teacher!
You should have seen their faces when I told them to make me look like him. 🤣 The ebike your was nice and my dancing needs lots of work!!! Safe travels, John and Bev
Thanks so much. Glad you enjoy our content and hope you can follow along on our journey around the world! Safe travels and blessings to you, John and Bev
I had no idea God's plans for my life besides ministry! I was researching for hours moving to the Philippines! He says No! That I am going to Boquete. That was a very Sudden change for me. I only try to follow His Will for my life! And yes I am a Mountain-biker!
Thanks for watching. That’s fantastic and God definitely has a plan for your life! Boquete is a nice town with a thriving expat community. We enjoyed our stay there very much. John and Bev
Thank you so much. We work hard to produce good content and appreciate the support. Hope you can follow along on our 10 year journey around the world. Many blessings to you in 2022. John and Bev
Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed the video and hope you can follow along on our journey. The hat is from a golf community we had lived in Florida! Have a great 2022. John and Bev
Thanks! Here's the songs with lyrics. Fine as Frog Hair, Peggy Scott and Jo Jo Benson; Where I Wanna Be, Dazy Chain; I Like it When I’m with You, Norman. I had to go back to this video, since it was old and rewatch. Such great memories! Thanks for watching!!! John & Bev www.retirementtravelers.com
This is the first of your videos we have watched and just curious about the language barrier if there is one. Is Spanish spoken mostly ( would love to try out what we have learned ) or do they mostly speak English? Thanks for the great video... and taking notes.
Thanks so much for watching. We found that several locals did speak some English , but still plenty of opportunity to try out your Spanish speaking skills. There is also a significant group of expats to help you out if you need some English support. Overall a nice community. Let us know if we can help further. John and Bev
Thanks so much for the kind words. Bev does the editing and is amazing. She is self taught on Final Cut Pro and has watched many RU-vid how-to videos. John
@@RetirementTravelers wow so impressive…I don’t mean to sound agist …but from the 50 plus year olds I know…even ones that are good with change and technology ..would never have been able to do what Bev does…amazing leaning the technology…I can see your channel blowing up over time so keep doing what you are doing
You seriously can’t imagine how impactful your comment is to Bev right now. She is finishing up a really long, tough edit from our Netherlands visit and needed some words of encouragement from a viewer. She has the ultimate can do attitude, but it still helps to get encouragement during the rough stretches. Retirement has been a journey of learning for us so far and we hope to keep improving. Thanks again for the support and hope you can follow along on our adventure around the world and see continued improvement on the challenge that doesn’t always come naturally to us. John and Bev
@@RetirementTravelers thank you for your reply. Don’t hesitate to support our channel as well. We are a Swiss family expatriate in the UAE. Take care and stay safe! Sandy and Roger
Looking to move my family down there. I am almost 50 and have 2 small children. Was wondering about if it’s only for retires. Moving my mom and her husband also. Wanted to see how it is for small kids also. Thank you 🙏🏼
Not sure about small children there. You might try connecting with one of the expat Facebook groups and get more information. Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
Hello. It is Bev and John, not Pat 🤣. It is called Bambuda Castle. It is kind of a combination hostel and grass roof huts. We loved staying in the huts. Check price for specific time you will be visiting. Safe travels, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
I just returned from 5 days in Panama. I also had a haircut, but in a sidewalk setup. Same great haircut for $5. I make a habit of getting a cut each time I visit a new country. Also had a dental exam and cleaning for $45! I wouldn't care to live there, but the visit was fun.
We lived in Boquete for 1 1/2 years. It is not the best place to retire. That place is Medellin, Colombia. Boquete has over 150 inches of rain per year. And when we lived there the roads were a muddy mess because they decided to change out all the water pipes and they were all located underneath the middle of the roads. We lived through one October and November and we couldn't go through another. It rained 24 hours a day for about 7 weeks.
We agree with you about Medellin, Colombia. We do love it here. It was such a pleasure meeting you and we plan a return visit in January. God’s blessings to you. John and Bev
boquete has a NINE MONTH RAINY SEASON...duh...drizzle ..rain..fog..for days...two hours of sun...rinse and repeat..just the facts amigos...of course the facts wont sell you a house duh...
Thanks for the facts. We are on a 10 year journey around the world, so only short visits at each place. Boquete was a nice town, but underneath about rainy season. Thanks. John and Bev
The way I see it If youre an extrovert and like people coming out of nowhere and talking to you then Boquete is the place for you. If you are an introvert Volcan is better. There are expat communities in both for when you feeling extrovert tendencies. I have a 2 brm apt for rent in Volcan now 595/mo. Its one third of the price of Panama City to live here. My email in the about section of my channel or tweet me.
