Please contact any government official, particularly those in the security sector. If not contact someone in the media. The officers will be fired by tomorrow. Don't be afraid. Nothing will happen to you. The Kenyan government is trying to weed out corrupt individuals.
Hi I am an American and we took a bus through this border and they were very rude to everybody. There was a lady there who was telling people she was leaving the job because she was tired lol…then they were asking me an American for money as well to cross. I highly recommend people to avoid this border unless your willing to bribe. Take plane or alternative route. However my experience with Ugandan immigration at airport was smooth
Just know there are those of us that have experienced similar situations and we sympathise. Keep the faith and keep your eye on the big picture. You came to do big things and it will be well worth it when all is said and done! Thanks for sharing
😢It is utterly disgraceful that the Kenyan government allows such reprehensible individuals to serve as immigration officers. This lady, an American living in Uganda, had all the necessary legal documents, yet was scammed at the Kenyan border crossing by corrupt officers. Despite having valid paperwork, she was told without any evidence that her documents were illegitimate. These officers then demanded bribes, forcing her to pay $250 to enter. When she complied, they further extorted her by refusing to let her children pass unless she paid even more. This shameful and unethical behavior reflects poorly on Kenya’s border management and governance. The government should be ashamed and take immediate action to eradicate such corruption.
Wow! I'm sorry to hear that you and your babies went through this. I hope the people responsible are held accountable. Thank you for being honest and sharing your story because people need to know what they could potentially be facing not just at the border of Uganda and Kenya but throughout the continent. (AAs are all over the continent and their stories about scams are outstanding.) You are absolutely correct about bringing balance regarding the good and bad because maneuvering in Africa is a beast on another level. May the Most High continue to guide your steps. Shalom.
I am Ugandan and had an awful experience at the Kenyan border. The Kenyan immigration officials gave us a difficult time. They do anything to get money from you regardless of who you are. It's true that corruption is one of the major problems in most African countries. Nonetheless, if you're dealing with the right people, you can minimize such unpleasant experiences.
Thank you for being open sister, and I am sorry you and your family had to deal with this. it is sad when people don’t even have any Idea that their actions are being judged by the Most High and they will reap the harvest of the negativity they give out.
Thank you for sharing your story, this is what I meant when I asked about the climate of relations between the border countries, they tend to take advantage where they can. I’m sorry you all had to experience this.
So sad that you went through that with kids and thanks for coming out .....we still have long to go those immigration officers at boarder deserve to be arrested .
This made me mad. Another RU-vidr from the 🇺🇸 JCOOP experienced this same nonsense. I’d totally report this and take it as far as possible. Really making Africa look bad 😡
I hope your car was issued exit documents. I hope you kept them safe. You will be fined more hundreds of USD if you try crossing to Kenya again if your car wasn’t officially exited. I do car rentals that some times cross the borders. We have been taken advantage of a number of times. And sometimes the clients think its our fault that they delayed at the border! So keep the proof of exit safe to avoid any future incoveniences.
😢😢 sorry for you Dut I don't know people around you. They can't help you people in Africa they are broke they think about money. you have to get someone to trust to avoid all this they will scum you until you get broke😢😢😢
Jeez. Sorry about the ordeal, from a Kenyan. I wonder how long this has been going on -- some things have been going wrong lately (even to us Kenyans e.g passport issuance delays) and I just wonder whether this is a pattern.... I went through something similar at the airport in Nigeria a few years ago, but not to that extent. I had misplaced my yellow fever certificate and only had a copy. I suspect if you had pretended to call the US embassy, they would have come correct pronto. Like your dress.
I have been very lucky in my travels with regard to being hit up for bribes. In only one country have been directly asked for a bribe, and that was in Romania on the border with Hungary.
Becareful those people two borders Uganda Kenya Immigration work Remember two party can do something rong to you. And when you give them money don't tell everybody.!!If Government ask you to bring evidence you said you give them money.
