I have a collie and he is always trying to herd us. Nipped our ankles for the first year of his life. Great herding dogs. Just don't personally have anything for him to herd. LOL
I find it amazing that even though there’s barely any room between the sheep and the fence, the Collie understands it needs to squeeze through so that it can redirect them to the right. If the collie tries to go around them right, it’ll force them left. Just amazing intelligence
I worked on a ranch years ago and watched in awe as the border collie followed complicated instructions from the ranch manager. He’d say things like, “Bring the horses to the west side of the barn,” and the dog would race off, herd the horses from around the pasture, and bring them to the exact spot. They’re smarter than some (many) people I know.
My dad trained all our dogs to that exacting level. Hounds/terriers/lab...like soldiers. He had normal talk and code words. He also gave them rank . Would leave 1 in charge of the other 2. Protect small one/ and keep the other in line. Like a jailer at times. So dogs I believe are capable of way more than asked.
@@MyUnquenchableThirst Should we not prioritize human life over animal? It's true that the well being of sentient creatures is inherently valuable sure, however is the well being of a pig not less valuable than the well being of a human? There is no way to feed the human population without killing something sentient. Even organic agriculture kills every animal in the area with plow and poison. There is an argument that it *shouldn't* be this way, that there ought to be a way to support human life without killing animal or plant life, however just because it shouldn't be this way doesn't change the way it *is.* We currently have no way to feed the human population without killing animals. Until there is a genuine solution to this, things are the way they are. Without a genuine solution the only courses of action are at the detriment of human well being, which isn't worth it.
I swear I saw an untrained collie managed to move a groupe of chickens, everytime a chicken was leaving the group the dog managed to bring it back. He was doing this all day.
I can believe it. A lot of herd dogs do it instinctually. We had one and a pet pig at the same time. He was always trying to herd the pig. I've seen them do it with children, too. In a very gentle and non-threatening way, I promise.
Man. My grandma used to have 3 border collies on her farm and they were just the best dogs ever. They shed a TON but they loved just running around outside. They had a doggie door that was always open for them and they'd always go on hikes with us, go swimming with us in the pond, no leashes or collars required. R.I.P. the best 3 doggos I've ever known
Dogs were domesticated by humans so we literally created them. Dogs used to be wolves that attacked humans frequently until humans killed off wolves that were violent and breeded the ones that weren't. The end result are Dogs.
I love watching the team work of a flock, the shepherd & the sheep dog! It's a beautiful thing. To be able to train the dog to respond to a tone of a whistle when your voice can't be loud enough & it knows exactly what direction to push the flock. Truly a perfect partnership. And now all the city dwellers who have shepherd dog with no "job" to do can understand why they end up with behavior problems. They NEED to work on something!
I had an Aussie/Border collie mix who never saw livestock in his life, but boy did he know how to herd KIDS! I used to bring him with me to school at the end of the year, and watching him chase and herd those kids was amazing. They come out of the womb just knowing how. Incredible animals. (RIP Dusty-boy)
Seeing them do their job is amazing. When I was in the military, we had training in North California. This group of cows were blocking the road and wouldn't move out of the way until out of nowhere this collier runs down the mountains and clears the path, so easy. His owner had sent him from up the hill. It was awesome.
The herding instinct is very strong in border collies. My mother had a friend who had teo border collies, and they would herd walls and furniture by circling endlessly around those objects.
The intelligence of border collies is amazing, its aweomee to see them at work doing what they are made to do and you can see they love and enjoy every second of it! Happy dog
@@marjimdas Well let's give you the gold 🌟 star shall we. Obviously, you knew what I meant if you could decipher it sufficiently as to correct me on it. Ya little keener.
When I lived in England as a kid for a couple of years in the 70s I used to love watching these competitive sheep dog trials that they used to have. Watching a well trained sheep dog work a flock is a thing of beauty!
So impressed how owner and dog can learn to communicate so well, police dogs too. You all were meant to be who you are... for life and the world. Thank you all for who you are.
I enjoy watching the individuality of these dogs. Each has their own ways of herding. Kate is the queen, Echo is improving but there's the special one, Storm. He's my favorite young runner. Always like watching them run!
Aw, I don't know why it makes me so happy to see these videos. I love the countryside, and watching these beautiful dogs work and love to do it puts a smile on my face. You can see how excited they are to do it. It's in their DNA.
Laughing at this one. If you did NOT have Kate to help you on this one you would of been all over that huge field trying to get those sleep moved🦶🏻🦶🏼🦶🏼🦶🏼🦶🏼🦶🏼🛵🛵🛵🛵🛵🛵🛵
My collie was so different, she didn’t listen to a thing, the only word she listened to was her name and the sound of a packet rustling. Damn I miss her so much, I remember the time I left my front door open and she’d gotton out. I found her 3 blocks down in a field having life, i could see her from my back garden but had walk round the entire 3 blocks because a fence was in the way. She watched me until I got there and proceeded to run the entire field while I chased her. What a great dog.
Collies naturally round things up and bring them to you. I knew one that if you left the door open would just bring everything in the yard onto the house. Chickens, ducks, geese, goats..... The really difficult part in this video is getting it to push the sheep away..
This made me laugh out of joy and happiness. I have not felt such pure emotions in a long time. Thank you for this video. Joy in life is not being the richest man but be rich in heart. Out of all days in my school studying I wish I had this much joy.
