@illuminator777 my collie/husky/coyote mixed was raised to herd. She tried it with my GSD mix and was put in her place. Herding is livestock not others dogs
That’s not just a border collie, that’s a blue merle border collie - I had one and can honestly say I’ve worked with people who are less intellectually curious.
Hi, I had a border collie x blue heeler, Shelley was one of the best dogs I've ever had, very intelligent. She used to watch TV, loved documentaries about animals, she wouldn't move until it was finished. She also had favourite adds she would run to watch. Never underestimate your pets.. Round my chooks up, rounded up the husband when a meal was ready.. I'm 💯 sure she could read my mind...
In regards to reading your mind, they kinda do, your body language tells them a lot. I had the same thing with my first dog Kiara, an all white cross collie, and she just knew the script every time. There was no tricking her.😂
By that measure then All dogs are “spooky.” Decades long dog rescurer. “Canine scientists” are only now beginning to fathom what we’ve long known. Dogs are a fur lettered word for love. When you realize that you begin to understand their complex communication
Just got a collie and named it spooky. He’s only 8 weeks and he’s so god damn smart. I’ve had him for less than a week and he’s already understanding my commands
One of my collies is always ‘toy’ focused on walks with that stalking focus. The other is alert guard dog, rounding everyone up. Their son (literally biologically their son) is just running as fast as he can.
The more time I spend with my second border collie the more I’m convinced they aren’t a dog breed so much as another species of animal entirely. We ran into someone with a Labrador with my first border collie…they tried to play together. After about 4 minutes the lab just gave up and payed down tried it’s best but all the rapid agile action was just too much.
They can be great pets if you can match their energy. They need a lot of exercise, our BC gets two hours walk every morning whatever the weather and two half hour outdoor play sessions every day. She is extremely well behaved in the house and very sweet with us. She dosent like strangers approaching the wife though.
At one time I thought I wanted a border collie. Uhhhh … I don’t think I’m smart enough or physically fit enough to have a border collie. They are one track mind herding machines.
