Borderlands 2: Patched Trespasser- Does it still suck!?

The Trespasser is a unique Jakobs sniper that is available as a reward for completing the 'Animal Rights' quest in the Wildlife Exploitation Preserve. The quest is given by Mordecai in Sanctuary, after the story mission involving Bloodwing.
This weapon has the special bonus of ignoring shields. It is especially valuable for two raid bosses- Pyrocaustic Pete and Voracidous the Invincibles. This effect is an allusion to one of Mordecai's skills in the original Borderlands.
The community patch adds a bit of fire rate, and massively increases the damage. There still aren't many enemies where the special effect makes this weapon worth using over other Jakobs weapons, but it definitely no longer sucks. It is a viable weapon at OP 8 with the community patch, even if it is lacking compared to other high tier Jakobs snipers.

The issue remains with this gun enemy shields are tissue paper in bl2 so there is still no need outside of pete and vora

The ability this gun was based off of was actually OP in BL1..especially late game where the eridians have more shield than health

Kazuma Blackwing The reason why this weapon sucks is because in uvhm a powerful build is required. Enemies have multiplicative health increases but shields dont. If you have good gear and a good build there shouldn't be any reason to ever worry about enemy shields in all game modes. Shields are uncommon in Bl2 anyway and the enemies have white or green rarity shields.

Man the trespasser skill was always worth getting just for the eridians alone. That final area sucks on other characters when you are used to Mordecai.

The only enemy i think this might be useful outside raids is the thresher just before Overlook, and maybe the occasional loader/constructor that spawns with 2875 shield surveyors around him

Good thing. Now this gun is a beast in the Commander Lilith DLC because all the enemies there have a stupid high amount of shields.

Now I wonder if one were to stack up on Critical Ascension using the CA glitch, then drop in Pete with the patched Trespasser, just how quickly a body could take him down? Might be something to try, if one were bored. Like, really, really bored.

He's actually done that at some point. Or rather, he didn't do the Glitch but just prestacked an insane amount. It doesn't take that long, actually.

Mordecai is probably hands down the strongest character in borderlands because of skill trespasser. It made Jakobs weapons so much more beastly. The trespasser rifle in 2 is such a disappointment. I’m ok with it having a slow fire rate as many of the weapons in bl1 did but the damage has to make up for it especially on a bolt action. Bolt actions are bad in borderlands not because they’re bad in general but because borderlands 2 scaling sucks.

I feel like maybe it's effect should not just be ignoring shields, maybe another part of the effect is that the Trespasser extra damage to shielded targets, unshielded enemies take the normal damage and shielded enemies take Muckamuck or less damage.

Why always Washburne Refinery? it’s so boring and it’s the easiest thing ever to play Sniper Zero against Loader why not going too Lynchwood and killing Bandits?

Z3R0 Because it's a prime control point and testing ground for the effectiveness for weapons. If you run a different place every time then you don't know how good the weapons are when compared to each other. It's basic logic.

Probably because it’s the most fun map to run as Sniper Zero. Easy critical hits, consistent number of enemies and enemy types, which allow him to carry CA thru the whole map.

I'm honestly was that was that it's bad. It sounds fucking amazing on paper, but they also made enemy shields a condom shoved around the enemy's face, AND made the damage pretty bad, AND made the fire rate shit, AND I can't get the patch. It's only good for Pete when you just wanna speed through him, his pyrocaustic phase isn't even bad. Point is, it sucks

They're annoyingly fast man, but if you switch to Trespasser and take a vehicle the sniper rifle works for the machine gun that's how I'm killing stalkers :)

He's discussed this before. The unique weapon at its best is compared to the non-unique weapon at its best, and a non-unique weapon at its best is always purple/gemstone. Most often a unique blue weapon will have some stat downgrade compared to the purple non-unique counterpart; the test then is if the blue unique's special effect is enough to counter that downside.
