I feel like 2 was the beginning of the end. The loot sucked, only 1 gun was good in the endgame (Unkempt Harold) and everything was starting to get goofy storywise. All of the gritty desolate atmosphere went out the windo.
I have a friend who loved Borderlands just as much as I did. We played each game together, in order, before Borderlands 3 came out. Couch co-op each time. We each had complaints about each game, but we enjoyed them. Borderlands 1 took two sessions, Borderlands 2 took a while, and despite us not liking it as much as the others, we got through the Pre Sequel in one sit down. I never played the tales from the Borderlands, but my friend did. We played the captain Lilith DLC separately. I had complaints about the writing, but brushed it off as an advertisement DLC, and thought BL3 would be great. I took a week off of work to play BL3, and I was so excited to play FL4K. I fell in love with the gameplay quickly, and figured, "these first missions are kind of meh, but that's always kind of true." Then the door closed as I was going to Lilith, and the cut scene happened. My player didn't get to exist, I guess. This just kept going on. The game's quests kept getting worse, and the terrible cut scenes kept happening. By the time the Tannis thing happened, I was clocked out. By the end of the game, I just gave up. I got to 50, obviously, for the end game. It was rough early on, everyone knows this. Decent weapons became trash, because it was too good on one build, so I'd play offline to still enjoy my builds. I gave up completely on the game, with all the shit story, invulnerable bosses, and the bad end game, despite the good gameplay, before the first dlc even came out, despite having bought the edition that came with the dlc. I really wanted to love Borderlands 3, but I couldn't. I didn't even end up trying Tiny Tina's game, despite having been a fan of Borderlands, and having loved everything since the first game. I remember sitting down with my friend a week after Borderlands 3 releasing, in dead silence for 15 minutes, until one of us said, "Borderlands 3 was trash," and we talked for hours about how much we hated it, and that he only plays it with the dialog audio turned all the way down, and that they ruined the tales characters. It could have been such a good game. They finally nailed the gameplay so hard, and even when I was playing, builds were so varied only within a month of it coming out that it could have overtaken Borderlands 2 as the best game in the franchise. They just fumbled the writing, kicked it into the hands of the hands of the worst writer, who then smeared as much trash and smudge onto it as they could, before just refusing to let any decent writers touch it. Best of luck with your RU-vid career.
Too true man, I love BL3s gameplay, and I really enjoy things like the Maliwan Takedown and the Trials maps, but like you said, the writing and characters just ruined the story for me. Such a shame. And thanks for the support, I really appreciate it!
I'd still give Wonderlands a shot tbh. It wasn't anything amazing, but the story wasn't a disgrace to everything that came before it like BL3's so I enjoyed it much more.
Playing through BL1 right now, even though i platinumed it and even though ive beat it every year or 2 for 15 years. Played through BL2like everyone else, like it was ritual. Tps played twice, Bl3 once, it was a parody of itself
“I know there’s probably people out there that like Ava” Nope. Prolly not. It’s frustrating that BL3 is hands down the best playing game, but you have to suffer it’s cringe so much for playing it. I’m not somebody that often uses the word cringe, but it’s the only word that describes the direction this game takes. They massacred all of the returning characters, except for maybe Hammerlock, they didn’t introduce many cool new ones, except for maybe Wainwright and TdL, and half of the main story is “run around sanctuary” simulator with the goal of “talk to Lilith”. Lilith, call me back. I’ve vaults to hunt dammit.
Also they completely ruined the idea of a vault hunter to me. They are badass who really only care about themselves and loot. They are not good people at all. They loot and kill just like any other bandit. Now I have to believe we are fighting with the crimson raiders and fighting for something bigger than them. All of the vh and their backgrounds show that they are solo operators that can handle themselves. If they happen to help Firestone by killing sledge, sure, the vh just wanted to key. As an example.
Borderlands 1 absolutely nailed atmosphere. Borderlands 2 10/10 game I wonder how many hours I have from 360 and PC combined, never loved a game more. Borderlands TPS was a DLC made into a game. But still a fantastic game loved it. Borderlands 3 was a total WOKE sh** show, terrible story, terrible writing, completely disrespected any lore before it. Just trash refunded it half way through the story. Can’t believe anyone liked that WOKE garbage. Ruined Borderlands…
Too true dude. The obvious pandering and other woke themes just killed the story for me. The only thing I can say is a strong point for 3 is the gameplay, but pretty much everything else important is a downgrade.
The gameplay was out of this fu***** world. Jaw dropping. Loved it. The skins on guns the designs amazing. But then as you progressed you realize rarity doesn’t mean sh**. Oh and the Legendaries? Hey let’s just hand out a couple legendary guns every couple hours. Dude at one point I had more legendaries THAN BLUES. HOW???? BL3 was a pander-fest for the NPCs and DEI. I was so mad dude I actually teared up couldn’t believe what they did to the only franchise I ever gave a sh** about. Oh and the Sirens ONLY SIX can ever exist at once, hey let’s make every female a Siren randomly! You’re a siren! You’re a siren too! Everyone a siren now!
@@xKingWeeWeeBRO I KNOW. When I played the first few hours, I was so excited, didn't like the Calypsos, but gave the game the benefit of the doubt that it would get better. But as I continued playing, and moments like meeting Ava, the Calypsos being even stupider, and the dialogue getting crappier and crappier, I was beyond furious with the game
Imo, I believed pandora was the villian of bl1. All the bosses and Steele where just a part of pandora. Every npc in bl1 talks about how horrible pandora is and everything is trying to kill you. Steele isn't even introduced till halfway thru the game and I think that is on purpose. Idk that's just me, they really put an emphasis on the planet more than any other character in bl1.
I don't know if we'll ever get it, but I'd die to hear some insider accounts of what actually happened during the writing process for BL3. It really feels like the type of development hell game where they probably went through countless different drafts and rewrites for the story because they had no clue what direction they wanted to take it, eventually being told they had to figure something out quickly. With its outright disregard for the plot set up by The Pre-Sequel's ending and a myriad of other issues like your vault hunters having little impact on the story (specifically how they don't even exist during cutscenes), the whole story reeks of being thrown together at the last minute.
Great video, man. Borderlands 3 would be amazing for a person like me, considering that im mostly a gameplay first and story 2nd kind of guy. But my fucking god bl3's worst aspect to me is that EVERYTHING IS UNSKIPPABLE. Seriously holy shit, I DONT WANT TO LISTEN TO LILITH AT SANCTUARY EVERY RUN I DO. It gets fucking tiring and slows down the pace of the game. Bl3 would be a 10/10 for me if they just added a setting where ur playthrough would automatically skip every delivery/ talk to the person objective and allow u to skip dialogue.
Thanks man, I'll definitely talk about tps and wonderlands in another video, I just wanted to focus on the main 3 for this one so the video wasn't too long
I think were bl 3 and wonderlands loses Itself is there being too many parts and names. In borderlands 2 you could learn everything but in 3 and wonderlands it just feels impossible. I don't think bigger is better. I would like another world to explore not a solar system( i mean that metaphorically the planets in bl3s story were awesome.
