Looking at making an A3+ borderless glossy colour print with the Epson ET-18100/L18050 dye based ink tank [ecotank] printer. Using a super glossy metallic paper.
The paper used in this example is PermaJet Titanium gloss 300
www.permajet.c...
The printer is optimised for printing on RC type photo papers at below 300 gsm
Here's my review [30 mins]

Looks stunning. I never normally print borderless because I worry about getting ink on the rollers, plus my Canon Pro 1 doesn't have an easily replaced maintenance tank.

Thanks Yes - any borderless printing will increase ink residue buid-up

High Keith, i am not sure if this is classed as a copyright issue? A new channel has started up and is using a screen grab/ photo from one of your Epson P900 videos for his thumbnail. The channel is T-PAINTER - Video title - Best Overall Printer ( 2023 ) | Epson SureColor P900.

Not available across the pond (yet?) so.....bummer. Looks like the ET-8500/8550 is, but it's an all in one printer.

Also, will it print well on glossy 300gsm card stock for greeting cards? Or will the ink rub off? Thanks again 😊

Why is this printer not sold in the North American market?

Ask Epson US - I've no idea why they make the marketing decisions they do ;-)

Hi. Amazing informative video as well. I plan to buy this printer but I need pigment ink because the print will be touched with fingers relatively often. I do not want to use a varnish or a spray to protect the ink. I know that there are papers that can help against smearing or even water, but I want to know if this printer can work with pigment dyes. Like the series 112 of pigment ink. The internet is full of contradictions regarding the risks of changing the normal ink with pigment ink in a printer that is not specifically created for pigment dyes. When you find some spare time, maybe you can look into this issue as well. Thank you!

Thanks Unfortunately, not unless someone sends me a printer and ink. The printers I get are usually loans from Canon and Epson, and I suspect they would not appreciate one of their printers being returned with some random ink ;-) I simply cannot afford to actually buy such stuff for testing...

@@KeithCooper Hi. Some people told me that L3xxx printers from Epson can use pigment ink from 112 series, even if L3xxxx series machines are mostly designed to use normal ink. Some other people think that I will need cu change the printing head. Anyway, thank you again for answering me.

Is there much difference between a glossy print of an ET-18100 versus a P700? Ofcourse the p700 can handle art papers better...
@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper Год назад
Significant difference from a gloss POV on very glossy papers - less so on lustre papers The P700 will manage a somewhat larger gamut - but most would note the gloss differential first Also the P700 can do good B&W...

Does dye ink have any shortcomings in ordinary printing of 75 GSM art paper. I used to print on L1800 which was really good since 2019, but now it has given way. How many seconds would this printer take to print A3 in standard high quality? In L1800 it usually took about 100 seconds.
@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper 11 месяцев назад
75gsm 'ordinary art paper' sounds like it would have issues with many ink-jet printers? If it is not a specific inkjet paper, results are unpredictable. However, I don't test such light papers though in any printer review I'm afraid. As to timings, it's another area I don't measure since it depends on several factors - look for reviews in computer magazine type sites, where they include this sort of stuff.

About thickness 270gr paper ok? Or it is okay until what percentage as a gram?
@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper 6 месяцев назад
it's thickness not gsm which counts A 270 photo paper might be fine - a 270 art paper might not...

Does it do DTF printing as well ? Epson L18050 ? Or dp we need to modify it ?
@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper Год назад
no - there are no DTF printers in the ecotank range. I've never tested any DTF capable printers

@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper Год назад
This printer does not have a B&W print mode or work with heavier media [RC types are best] See my et-8550 review for my thoughts on that - I've not written the 18100 one yet... www.northlight-images.co.uk/epson-et-8550-printer-review/

How to print 12x18 borderless
@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper 5 дней назад
Print on 13x19 and invest in a good paper cutter ;-) No printer I've ever tested supports borderless other than in certain specific sizes. Check the details for sizes in the printer specs [or my written reviews]

What colours would this printer/ink set struggle to produce?
@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper Год назад
Not a question I would answer as phrased - it does not 'struggle' in any way whatsoever... The gamut available varies by media and profiling. Looking at profiles of the same media on different printers shows differences between ink sets. So, for example the two greys in the 8 inks of the pro-200 allow for [slightly!] stronger colours in a few areas [mainly orange]. As to how many people in the real world, would notice this in actual photos - not as many as some would worry about I suspect ;-) I'll make my profiles available when I do the review for anyone wanting to run their own comparisons
