I loved boredbrain. Bought an xport and terminal v2 - they are awesome. xport is great because of the gain LED's. No one else in eurorack seem to understand the importance of gain control - especially if sending outs to guitar pedals which are notoriously sensitive to hot signals.
Great review! I recently got the Xcelon mixer together with the Monitr module and I absolute love them. Both sound and feel great. Combined with great support from Adam and the team. They are top notch.
I am extremely excited about these series of modules. It's finally nice to see some competition to the old WMD Performance Mixer. I have a fully expanded PM in my system; the DB24 expanders that provide multitrack recording of my system has been a huge boon. Once BoredBrain releases their hinted at DB24 expanders for Xcelon, I plan on purchasing an entire set.
I was thinking the exact same thing regarding my WMD PM (sadly never got my hands on Mutes or the DB24 module before they became unobtainium). BoredBrains really knocked it out of the park with this Mixer and even with less overall channels the fact that they’ve got stereo send/return and configurable control over the channels is really making me wanna pick this module up and possibly have it replace the PM in my main case
Still a neophyte in term of Eurorack but I feel like mixers are underrated modules, sure it doesn’t provide sound but it helps to patch really interesting stuff, beautiful and interesting patch by the way, thank you for the video! Now I need to get a new case…will need more space before that…will have to buy a house I guess
CV mixers are really handy and usually inexpensive and small. But for audio mixing, especially the mastering, an inexpensive mixer used externally is what most people end up using. using lots of case space on a mixer is usually for people who have a lot of money.
@@boriscat1999for me personally my main case was made with the goal of being an all-in-one type “groovebox” that I could easily lug around. This meant needing a solid mixer module for all my audio and the eventual realization that there weren’t a whole lot of companies making mixers that were useful for live performance situations. I settled on a WMD Performance Mixer as despite the size it was pretty much perfect for what I needed. I’m glad BoredBrains is making a similar type of mixer especially now that most WMD modules are unobtainium

Hey Matt how have you found excelon? Is it a good tool for studio use as well? I use an es-3/6 for multitracking on top of my rack outputs but i want send and returns as im not sure how to make that work with fx modules otherwise. Im like you and do a ton of work in ableton so looking for options and not sure if its worth it to get excelon and trs output expander for studio work.

@@joeymc5272 it’s really good yeah! Beats the heck out of trying to do mixing on the 301 without an external controller. If I played live more often I’d refer to it as indispensable, but alas I am a studio dog

I dont perform live at all so i wondered if the lack of midi control would have any affect on your decision since wmd performance mixer mkii is about out and xer mixa as well. I have Been wanting send and returns with pre/post for a long time with expander module for multitracking and excelon seems to be the best option to me except without midi.
Nice review! I had an Xcelon but returned it due to noise floor being too high, audible THD issues. Love the physical interface and build but the overall sound quality for a full mix was not there for me
It definitely sounds like something was either wrong with the unit you received or something else in the setup where it was connected. A great deal of care was taken to ensure the absolute lowest noise and to ensure complete transparency, especially as compared to other large-format mixers in eurorack. We're sorry you had issues.
Oeh this is just perfect with all the stereo modules these days. It is very expensive though (EU). I mean 1K? In my honest opinion 6/7 hundred euro's would be a fair price point for what it is or am I just nuts? Modules (parts) are getting more and more expensive nowadays...
This is perfect timing as I am searching for an easy to use performance mixer. This one is sounding very useful... So does the mixer have 2 effects already in each of the 6 stereo inputs? At the top of every column there's an FX Knob and either I recall another person reviewing it saying it comes with Delay and Reverb FX or I had one of my "Alternate Reality Lifeline" dreams which are more "real " exciting and full of fascinating experiences, places and people who are so artistic and passionate about creating music or a painting, Filming scenes, writing... more so than my current state of dull actual existence. Thanks for your helpful video and music grooves. I'd love to hear and learn more about this Mixer, post another video about those 6 large FX knobs at the top of each row so I can find out whether or not this mixer comes with Reverb and Delay FX !💡💥🎶🎛🥁🔥👏🏽🌠🎙🪴🌌🌛❗️
