Some days I just like to literally do nothing for a while. It feels like I can stretch time when I do that.

The brain normalizes stimuli when it's repeated, like the smell of a new house that fades in 20 minutes. Therfore to know something is stimulating, your brain needs something to compare it to, boredom, otherwise it gets averaged as noise. I feel that's exactly what the brain is doing most of the time in this regard: comparing to data points against each other to determine relevance.

When boredom start to kick in within myself, I dive deeper within myself. I think about myself, how I react on the recent situation, how I approach that and this thing.. I am in business so I still do mental prep like expecting the worst scenarios.. etc. just sharing

thats a really helpful idea about boredom in your routine allowing you to do deep work

"you have to have some boredom in ur regular schedule or else your mind is going to form a Pavlovian connection between 'as soon as I feel boredom I get stimuli', and once it forms that connection it's never gonna be able to tolerate deep work... your mind better be used to the idea that sometimes you don't get stimuli bc otherwise u can't write for 3 hrs. it's just not gonna tolerate it." discomfort serves a very important purpose for a species. if something is really distressing, there's a reason for it. Pain is uncomfortable bc we need to worry abt injuries. Hunger is uncomfortable bc we need food to survive, Thirst is uncomfortable bc we need water to survive. Boredom is abt driving us toward productive action.

It's about you taking control and understanding, your own empowerment!. The physical, the mental and the spiritual. The question I would ask is... Why is the suppression so strong? I like the why adverb more than the others. Why gives you the substance of the story.

Suppression?...seems like only the self has the power to perceive or project powerlessness by an "other". Whom can suppress you, but you.🎮 This realization was a reality check on the tv series called world politics🙃😳👻🎓 #thequestIonmark #justasKING #loveubrother

I tried fasting, but my body said hell no and I got huge intestinal cramps that wouldn't go away. So listening to my body, I started having my regular schedule again but replacing a lot of unhealthy foods in it instead. Fasting is often touted as this cure for everyone, but it really isn't. The key indeed is listening to your body.

@@guyfromdubai Well. It's not that I ate very unhealthy. But I realized maybe I didn't know as much about good nutrition as I thought I did. Eating much less carbs now and more healthy fats for instance. Never really ate sugar except for fruits.

I disagree with his hypothesis. Boredom being painful is not the drive to be productive. One is productive when bored, like he said - being bored is the absence of stimuli, so a task that exists in a vacuum or exists in "boring land" is actually pretty interesting and motivating because it's the only thing to do.
@Maronicam

Action satisfies boredom, like food satisfies hunger. But You can eat candy or a good meal. And You can get addicted to sugar from candy. You can scroll social media or work. And You can get addicted to social media. But if You don't allow yourself to do the fast food actions (scrolling, daydreaming, chatting) You would feel more entertained by work alone.

Starting from a principle is affirmed by people of experience to be a very reasonable procedure; I am willing to humor them, and so begin with the principle that all men are bores. Surely no one will prove himself to be so great a bore as to contradict me in this….Boredom is the root of all evil. -The Rotation Method

ADHD Unite! I feel the same dude. The only way I was able to get into meditating was getting interested in watching the "thought machine". Whenever my kids say "I'm bored" I've said "only boring people get bored." I used to think it was lack of imagination. This is making me rethink this though.

Necessity drove innovation in our early history, not boredom. Living on Earth as a human for the vast majority of our history has been incredibly difficult. Most of your day your goal was survival and prepping to survive in the future. There was no time for boredom. Innovation came from necessity to make life easier to deal with. Necessity / Survival still is the strongest motivator, its just easier now to hit a comfort level you can live with.
