In our last video we explained the earthworks we are currently undertaking to get our land into shape and start using water more intelligently. This week we carry on the water theme and talk you through our brand new borehole as we get it!
We explain what a borehole is, the process we went through to get one, the hidden costs and the surprises to watch for along the way! Make sure you watch so you don't fall for some of the assumptions we did!

Stumbled upon your channel and subscribed. Heard your story on the tourism farm and how your license was denied. You are so resilient, my compliments for that. No doubts you are going to make your dream come true.

Hey Guys, Me and my wife are planning to move to portugal as you did, we follow the story of multiple youtubers. But your project gets me the most, i cant await to realise our own permaculture project on our own land. In 1.5 years we plan a trip around portugal to maybe find our property, do you already know when your ressort will open? It would be nice to stop over at your site. Your videos are really valuable for us and our future, especially the first vidoes you did. It would be nice to hear more about all the paperwork and how this stuff all works in portugal to realise a project like yours. thanks a lot, regards from switzerland

I can only imagine your faces when someone showed up holding wooden sticks in order to find groundwater. I am not sure how hydrologists do it but using sticks is certainly not a scientifically backed method. By the way I was thinking planting large shrubs and some taller trees along the eastern and western edges of the lake might provide enough shade to reduce evaporation.

4:28 Off course it was the highest point of the plot - it had to be. After all, it was to be paid by the depht of the borehole. And it was a smily couple of nice foreigners asking = paying for services of the locals :D What else could have one expected in such a situation? ;) Thanks for the great video!

I'm new to your vlog. I'm not sure if this has been asked yet. Have you considered a rain water catchment system for the buildings? You might be able to significantly reduce the amount of pumped water needed for your resort bathrooms. The excess could go to the lake.

Happy for you guys . With a bit of rain , the place looks much difference now; That area is very dry in the summer months , so it can be hard to find water . I have to say that the current situation (covid) and the lack of rain in the last 4 / 5 years , made your experience take longer than usual , and more expensive than expected . We have our homestead between Santana da Serra and Sao Marcos da Serra , but we have the house on the bottom of the hill near the river (ribeira) , so we dont suffer as much with lack of water , as we have a well and we pump the water into the house , but for your future business you did well in have a borehole . Stay safe you guys

Amazing what you have done so far despite your set backs. Videos really informative. A few questions about water! Was the Lake in situ when you bought the land? Did you make it bigger when you put in the terraces? Should one look into licence for Bore hole before buying land, if possible? Keep up the great work!!! regards, Juliet
@Life.Reimagined
@Life.Reimagined 2 года назад
Hey Juliet, thanks for your lovely comment :). Glad to hear that the videos are helpful to you. The lake was already there when we bought it. We tried to deepen it a little but there seems to be stone underneath, so it was not really possible. In terms of the license for the borehole. That would of course be ideal but when you buy land, you already have so many moving parts here in Portugal that it could get very tricky. I would defnitely recommend to inform yourself if it is possible to get a borehole license in the area of where you want to buy. This of course can change (like everything here in Portugal constantly does haha) but that gives you a better idea. Hope that helps :)

Hi I’ve been thinking about your problem and I remember when I was in Thailand I saw siphoning water from a borehole and well this is how it was done using non-return valve on plastic pipe you need to get the height of the pipe above your ground level to your borehole and create a siphon I’m going to send you three videos of this in action hopefully this will give you a good idea of what I’m trying to show you you can connect lots of plastic pipe together to get the height to even end up just having a solar pump with this non-return valve or use no power at all using the siphon mechanism or even a ramp pump no electric required Example one return valve plus if you stack lots of pipe together and backfill with water you can create suction from your borehole ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SERwTNJki10.html Or option two ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O6JVQe8rWrU.html Next example siphon from well ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VeR-b0lH5j8.html Or you could use a shock vac to start suction with a generator ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V82SVeVXKcA.html

Im just wondering. As Your svales starts functioning the groundwater should also rise significantly. This is not an immediate process of course so i can understand the reason for digging the well this deep.

Love your intentions You might look at Geoff Lawton for more inspiration On bore whole, it occurred to me, that the water level will now rise,and maybe you will only need to pump from 100 meters. On planting look at groans is this product is extremely sucusseful with trees in arid areas, you can also re use when trees are established. Look into soil compaction after you're D8 did earth works. Start worm bin, so you will have compost tea to feed trees plants etc. Also you can bottle and sell compost tea. You may consider coverage of land with straw,whilst cover crops develop. No dig no till, fruit trees will bring long term income to. Concentrate on variety of trees and crops,to build soil microns etc Wish you all the best. When established you will be saving more water to site than using Nick London England

@jul7291
@jul7291 3 года назад
@@Life.Reimagined I find background music irritating and tiring. You have important things to say, so you don't need to plug every piece of 'empty' air. It actually detracts from the message and sounds like you've just started, or are about to end. There is no pace or shape to the video if you don't give it a break. Some at the beginning, some at the end, when you have drone footage, or no narration. But when you are doing the meaty talking sections, background silence is golden!

Ola guys, great videos. Just a word of advice from.someone who has been involved in Dowsing/water devining.in the past - I do not know what your religious beliefs are but Water Dowsing is a form of Divining (part of the occult), it is a practice that is part of the dark arts, so to speak. I know it looks all harmless on the surface, fluffy bunnies etc, but the Dowser is told and guided by a "spirit guide" to tell you where the water is and what depth and how many gallons per minute, direction of flow etc. I do not want to scare you, so I won't go into too much detail, but the VERY best advice I can give you guys is to get a good Catholic Priest to your land, and tell him what you have done and ask him to come and bless your land, especially the bore hole. Like I said, I do not want to scare you guys, but if you have your land blessed, everything will fall into place for you. We will pray for God to protect you both and your land, and also for your finances to be protected. If you want to know anything else, just ask. We have been watching your videos because we are also thinking of purchasing land over in Portugal. Like I say, we hope we haven't scared you, but we know this advice will help you both. God bless
