I love m&t! Additionally I appreciate all of the videos and information I learn. I’d love to see a video about obtaining tools, like a hand tools buyers guide, maybe in print as well. Brands, what to look for etc. it’s been hard to get the right stuff
Excellent review of the basics! I absolutely hate eggbeater drills of that size, I saw a few designs and they never turn smoothly. I found a noticeably larger one that is a charm to use. It has a kind of saddle end and is around 20 inches long. It is much heavier but does not jam and jerks like the small ones, and I've yet to get skin caught in the gears as it happens with the small versions.On the other hand I love for the birdcage awl (easy to make in various sizes) and the large T augers.
I know your comment is a year old.....but I think you are talking about a breast drill. The saddle-shaped top is for bracing with your chest. Some of the more sophisticated ones had 2 different gears/ speeds.
It seems somewhat bizarre to accuse the egg beater of being awkward at drilling vertically when the real cause is your preference to not use appropriate work holding solutions. I cannot imagine holding the work with my elbow. It’s okay not to like egg beater drills. But you didn’t give it a fair shot.
