I guess one of the factors that has caused a major dent in the multiplex business is that audience knows this film will stream on Netflix or Prime in 3 months time whereas earlier it used to take a year for it to be televised

Movies like following can't be made in present political situation- 1. Rang de basanti 2. Ranjhana 3. PK 4. OMG 1 5. Machis 6. Haider And many more. Female lead are kept almost exclusively for ott release. Scope is so small that only macho hero movies can be made. That too isn't liked by people anymore. 3 old movies releasing simultaneously while 3-4 hollywood movies are currently running. Stree 2 being only one standing tall in the name of Bollywood. Sad state of affairs.
Dont get me wrong but bashing bollywood has become a new trend. This year bollywood has given both critically and commercially successful movies like : lapata ladies,Merry Christmas ,bhakshak,saitaan, madgoan express,munjaya,crew,Article 370,Chamkilla, ,Fighter,Stree 2,TBUJ ,Kill etc. And no big stars SRK,Salman,Amir,Ranbir,Ranveer movie released this year. Last year when bollywood alone earned more than 12000 cr which is more than combined earning all 4 major south Industries,no body made vdo about south downfall??? The fact that there are problems in bollywood but which industry doesnot have ,there are many cringe movies made in all industries but targeting bollywood has become easy as it gets views.
Agree! See other language industries also have their fair share of flop films and I'm sure they are criticized in their core markets and rarely get a national release. Hindi industry on the other hand has had a nationwide release of the crap productions also for quite a long time now so in balance what the country gets to see is largely the best content of non-Hindi films and a mixed bag of Hindi films

Bollywood should make a balance between both Larger than Life Cinema and Small Budget Middle of the Road Cinema. Larger than Life Cinema rolls the revenue which will enhance new creative voices

I remember when the first Jurassic park came out, I had to go 3 days in a row to get tickets. Never in my life I had to or would want to do that for any Indian movies. It take first 10 mins of Bollywood movie for the audience to figure out what the movies ending will be like.

Bollywood filmmakers and actors lost their connect with audience.. They are living in some superior dream world among their circle.. They don't know what's happening in the minds of audience..
The problem it's necessarily that movies are made to only make money. This is more true for Hollywood. But as you pointed out their movies are loved by the audience even Indian audience. I think the main reason is Bollywood is refusing to change. They are stuck at 2013 while the audience has moved on. Bramhastra is a great example of that. Where the story literally feels like it was written in 2013 and maybe it actually was.
Here is the proof that Bollywood is not dying. Maidaan Stree 2 Khel Khel mein Srikanth Fighter The only thing which is going wrong is that Bollywood is not able to put out films which are called "essential watch" more frequently and those are the only films which are doing big numbers. That is because the audience's habits have changed post pandemic. This is not only true for Bollywood, Hollywood is also struggling. When you talk about audiences having access to quality content ( English content) on OTT, that is not correct. Streaming platforms mostly put out mediocre formulaic stuff, the only exception is HBO. Also, that quality is only seen in long format. You can count good Netflix original films on one hand. About the past, we like to glorify it but the fact is that Bollywood has always been mediocre. You can pick any year and you will struggle to select 10 good films from it. Conclusion - Nobody ever knew what is going to run at the box office and nobody knows it today, except probably Salim-Javed. Cinema is such an art where a lot of money is involved and you need mass support to recover it, that too in the first 3 days, so it is always going to be mediocre. If you cannot see a consistent theme in today's cinema it is actually a good thing.
True sometimes box-office collection not shows the ground reality. Bollywood producing some Good cinemas but people never give support that cinemas in theatre. That's the bitter truth no one except. Bollywood is not dying but people choking good films it's a fact .

Stars duty is to give opening , and that they do and that's what they charge for , the opening collections of aadipurush , thugs of hindustan , radhe shyam , kalki are a testament that star is important for a big budget film to recover most of its money asap , uske baad its on the quality of the film which decides the final run..so it will have scenes which give atleast their fans some satisfaction and wohld recover money... I understand the issue with kalki but they are necessary , inn bade starts ke bina wo film ko utne paise bhi nai aate opening weekend pe ya shayd ban hi nhi paati..

The term art film just exists to differentiate between types of films and describe how they fit in the marketplace. It doesn't mean that they have greater artistic value, just that there's different expectations and goals attached to them.

Zain bhai - most Bollywood movies have been pretty shitty since , forever. Some were always good. Most art is unappealing however much is the effort it takes to create.
Bhai agar bolun ki audience ko quality hi nahin chahiye to, if audience taste was so good then why Runway 34 , jhund ,tumbaad didn't do well. There are many examples like this in the recent past. Bollywood is destroyed mainly because of likes of Karan Johar (who keeps promoting useless nepo kids and stopping talented outsiders) and Aditya Chopra who don’t understand the core value of 80% Indian population and only make elite class films where the main characters have either rich NRI or non NRI metro city lifestyle, LGBTQ agendas, extra marital affairs, depressing youth based love stories, etc. other kinds of films have social preachings, anti Hindu agendas, over the top same 50+ heroes acting like 25 years old youngster and romancing heroines half the age and meaningless dialogues. All these things put together are the reasons for the downfall of Bollywood. They need to learn something from south cinema how to make quality films with proper castings. Also Bollywood keeps making unnecessary remakes, outdated sequels of their previous crap movies that succeeded at the box office and back to back biopics. That’s all. Bollywood has no other vision beyond these.
