Bormes les Mimosas located in the Var, is one of the most beautiful sites in France. The medieval village is an essential stopover for lovers of old stones and history buffs.
The old village is home to many vaults known as “Cuberts”.
They were created to facilitate the movement of villagers.
Some facades are embellished with doors, the oldest of which at the entrance to the old village was built in 1577.
The knockers date from the 16th century. They adorn certain doors in the streets and alleys.
Built in the 18th century, the Saint Trophyme church is of Romanesque inspiration.
Just like the Saint François de Paule chapel built in 1560 in his homage for having delivered the city from the plague in 1481.
The Pous d'amoun is a typical Provençal dry stone well.
The castle of the lords of Fos built between the 13th and 14th century has been classified as a historical monument since 1931, but is not open to the public for visits.
You can admire on its square, "the victory" a magnificent sculpture of 2m30 by the sculptor Christophe Charbonnel.
The best way to discover the charm of Bormes les mimosas is to stroll through its narrow streets, its squares, its covered passages.
90 species of mimosas are counted in the medieval village. Bormes is the starting point of the 130 km long mimosa route ending in Grasse.
The Corniche des Maures stretches from Lavandou to St Tropez.
This road is just beautiful and runs along the seaside where you can see the peninsula of St Tropez with its famous bell tower.
At the entrance to the town of Agay, the "le palet d'or" chocolate factory is an essential stopover to taste the mimosa of Agay. Small yellow balls presented in cones, candy boxes or chocolate pods created by the chocolatier Didier Carrié.
Composed of a white chocolate truffle flavored with mimosa and candied lemon peel, it is lightly seasoned with a plant liqueur, before being rolled in crystallized mimosa powder.
A refined, sweet and melt-in-the-mouth delicacy.
The Estérel massif is a volcanic massif still located on the shores of the Mediterranean between the Var and the Alpes Maritimes.
The Corniche d'Or is a real marvel, the red colors of the rocks of the Estérel mingle with the shades of blue of the sky and the sea.
Around 1880, the mimosa originating from Australia, made its appearance in Cannes. The mimosists will therefore multiply in the region and settle around the Tanneron massif.
There are 800 species of mimosas.
Flowering begins in December and continues until the end of February.
Mimosa is used for making pastry, confectionery, syrup and tapenades among others.
The Tanneron massif is the largest area planted with mimosa, real yellow forests of small fluffy balls that are so beautiful to see in their natural environment.
