Knew nothing about Billy Kemper until watching Kai Lenny get beaten by this guy in WSL Big Wave 2020 and found this as my first watch about him. I think I'm gonna have a lot of love and respect for this guy.

Here's a little story about Eric Diaz... back in 1991, I was riding with my dad in his old yellow and white volkswagen microbus down the hill to pavillions at hookipa on the north shore of Maui. We get down to the flat ground at the bottom of the steep drive, and stopped to look at the waves, so I could decide where to paddle out. Then outta nowhere we hear, "NO BRAKES, NO BRAKES, NO BRAKES!!!" Followed by a loud crash into the back and side of our van, then see Little E flying through the air, and skittling across the pavement in front of us. He gets up, starts looking at all the fresh roadrash and raspberries all over his arms, shoulders, and knees, and starts cracking up. Me and my dad start cracking up, the whole pavilions were pretty much cracking up. Then outta nowhere, thus total karen tourist lady comes up and says, "where is this child's parents? He needs parents, and a trip to the emergency room immediately!!!! Why is everyone just standing around laughing??? (Honesty, I thought she was about to cry by the look on her face 🤣) then Kaimana Henry steps in and says, "it's OK lady. He's my little brother. I already called our mom on the payphone, and she's on her way right now" the lady was all about trying to convince Eric to get in her rent-a-car so she could take him to the hospital immediately. Eric just started picking his wounds and telling the lady to mind her own business. Was a funny moment , and a classic memory. Cheers Billy. Give Carl a hug for me. I'm stuck on the mainland
This was the good reef before the 5 year plan stripped it of all the personality and promise. Now it’s a shell of it once was, now a corporate slave to the rich shareholders and the richer chairman’s of VP Corp. You can see for yourself, look back on the videos cerca 2017, look how much personality reef once had all the things that made reef, reef. Since their 5 year plan, 5 years ago from where I’m writing this (2022), they said they changed their portfolio to a better lifestyle brand, what good is a lifestyle brand is when they’re not findings new stories and solutions a goal a purpose anymore. Now their newest videos are all just show cases of a shoe corporate demands so that you can make their pockets heavier. Reef is no longer the dependable brand you could always go to for a all around great sandal or flip flop they’re trying to make reef into the next north face but it’s just not working out the same. They’re not crafting sandals for the best experience, wear and look of a shoe they’re just meeting their new sales goal and chucking out a half baked sandal with no consideration for the customer. “But their new sandals have comfort foam on them” well what use is comfort foam for if it’s not supporting anything. You’re walking on a soft flat board now it does nothing to anatomically support your feet. And the FOAM does not provide any traction on your foot bed so when you just got out of the beach you’re going to be slipping IN YOUR SANDALS AND THATS NOT COMFORT. AND because it cushiony it dries 2x slower than a regular flip flop or sandal. On their website they have a arch support sandal option for their search bar BUT WHAT GOOD IS IT if I CANT WEAR MY ARCH SUPPORT TO THE BEACH AND I WALK BACK ALLLLLL THE WAY BACK TO MY CAR WITH HURTING FEET. And of course I can always wear one of their water sandals to the beach BUT THE WATER SANDAL HAVE THE THICKEST THINGS/STRAPS ON THEIR SHOES THAT YOU CHAFF, BLISTER AND SAND OFF THE TOP PART OF YOUR FOOT. I don’t know much about sand on other beaches but here in San Diego is super fine which means it gets into every single crevasse of your flip flop so the best option for the flip flop straps is having them super thin, since the sand has much less time rubbing against you than thick straps. Something that should taken into consideration especially because ONE OF THEIR HEADQUARTERS IS IN CARLSBAD WHICH IS RIGHT NEXT TO SAN DIEGO. But now it’s for my reason, why? Why? Why write this stupidy long paragraph on how Reef used to be so much better before it got bought out, I feel really bad for the original owners since they didn’t have much choice, but back to the topic, why? The Reef Escape Lux show is a flip flop that combined everything that made a real great quality flip flop or sandal. The straps where thin perfect for in and out of the beach activities on top of being super comfy, the styles where endless and fashionable, the beautiful arch support that transformed every step into wonderland, and the shape of the sole ACTUALLY SUPPORTS a the feet, even for long long walks I never had a problem with the comfort of the flip flops. It was a beautiful flip flop every crevasse of it was thought out in mind of the comfort, practically, and style of the consumer. A flip flop you could rely on, go in almost any store and by the best, and only pair of flip flops you’ll ever need. I sadly lost a single flip flop out of my pair that where the Escape Lux’s and that I kept for five beautiful years. Those flip flops brought me on countless adventures big or small and have touched every single body of water type. They were truly my best friend fulfilling and satisfying me with each new step. It was made clear how much I yearn for their feel when I was searching and searching for hours at a surf, and ski shop named Hanson’s, hours spent there no, flip flop or sandal satisfying me. I admit I was spoiled those flip flops where the panicle of my comfort and with one gone they where rendered useless. You have me like a chained dog trying to search for those exact flip flops. Almost every result coming out as false, a reminder of how you took away THE BEST SANDAL THAT YOUR BRAIN WASHED COMPANY WILL HAS EVER OR WILL EVER PRODUCE. Oh and I’m not talking solely for myself I looked and searched for the reviews of that same Escape luX model And WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT EVERYONE HAD UNIFYING AQREED THAT THESE ARE THE BEST AND MOST FAVORITE FLIP FLOPS THEY EVER TRIED ON. Your buy out by VP corp, wanted a new portfolio well they just took out their BEST PRODUCT. Admit it the brand before the by out were the best years of its career. But yea when it’s all said and done when my feet finally grow out of my new pair of Eclipse Lux’s I can only remember the amazing times I had with them and never again feel the same euphoric feeling of those on my feet, but I’ll know what made them special and the years having them one where ones to treasure forever. BRING BACK THE ECLIPSE LUX’S Please
