I replaced the horizontal strip holding pixels over my garage with Boscoyo ChromaTrim V3. Pretty good stuff! Plus some other updates.

Jeff the start of the video was deja vous for me. Last year I just about dumped a reel of regular mounting strips when opening things up. Best to your family, and glad Sadie is on the mend.

Thanks! Yes... Yes it is! lol! Fortunately, you can also go at your own pace and it doesn't take a huge number of pixels to make a really nice display. Also, thankful I've never encountered a water hammer. :)

Great videos w/humor!! On the snake cable -- instead - How about using 2 separate 18/2 cables, 1- from controller (Grd , Data) to first string; 2- from power supply to feed power (duh) to the strips and do power injection as needed. Data should travel on 18awg wire just as well - I have not tried it, because I am just getting started on this hobby, but i think it should work. Even drew a picture but how can I post it? --Thanks and keep up the good work

Skinny Ethernet cable is actually better at carrying data than large wire. I believe it has to do with impedance or "resistance at frequency." Now, DC current, go as big as feasible for the load. Data will travel down larger wire for some distance, but it will go further on skinny wires.

What is you opinion on using 12 or 14Awg speaker wire for power? That usually is just 2 wires in a sleeve (red and Black)

Haha. Yeah that would probably work. Still, this is probably only needed for special cases so I wouldn't recommend it for everything. Standard cable still works great for short runs, but thanks for finding that.

Great VLOG, we subscribe and are working on our display for the second year. Last year was about ~300 pixels, this year ~5000. Thank you for all of your insight. On the ChromaTrim V3, do you have a comparison to the original ChromaTrim? I see on the Boscoyo website they have the original 12mm strips, which you have in the video, and they have a legacy version of the ChromaTrim. At half the cost, I am curious about a comparison between the original Chroma and the v3.

The ChromaTrim I bought a while back was made out of coro and too flimsy for my needs. The V3 is roughly twice the thickness of the standard strip, but much more rigid, hence my thumbs up. :) You might want to send them an email or give them a call to get full specs on anything you see on their website - they are very helpful.

Here you go www.boscoyostudio.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_6&products_id=215 I was trying to find something like this for my horizontal eves and it works very well. Holidaycoro also sells the mounting clips for PVC 1/2" pipe if you want to make them straight. I just snapped a line and put them on it and works well. They are clear so you can leave them up and cannot see them. It makes the wife happy!

Yes. 😂I use 12V for most everything, but have a 5V matrix and 5V pixels in the tune-to sign globe.

@@michael125 Well, I've had mine a few years. They're still good, but the new stuff stretches less according to some so if I were to do it again and I had the money, I'd do it.

I just put my pixels on 54' of eves with this product and works very well. I did put them on PVC 1/2" pipe and purchased holidaycoro's 1/2' clear mounting strips. V3 is very easy to drill holes where you need them and definitely hard to insert the pixels. Holidaycoro has the pixel putterinner for sale also. It saves on your fingers! Mine went brittle & broke after the first year, but I think they were the PVC type. Hope the Lexan holds up better.

This is a terrible spot to communicate, but does anyone have problems getting their account to activate on doityourselfChristmas.com? I can't post to ask questions. Or are there better forums with more active mods?

Check the list in the descriptions of my videos. There are a few places. The Facebook groups have a lot of people there too, but the forums are searchable and you can usually find an answer to a question there first. Been a while since I signed up so not sure on the timing of new accounts. They might be on vacation or something like that.

It's possible there will be a V4 out as it didn't handle tight bends well. You might send him a note or wait until Expo - at least that's when I would release a new product. :)
