Same Problem here, BOSE should Provide a Solution!!! this problem seems to be very common! where the battery got charged and discharged its lifetime. the speaker is now a Brick!

Oh my god, you cant apply more than 4.2 V to a Li-ion cell. They operate between 2.5-4.2 V. The 3.78 V is perfectly normal voltage for a cell and indicates its somewhere between 50-60% state-of-charge. The issue with your device was not due to the cell voltage of this particular cell. It could be related to an imbalance between your cells in best case, but is more likely related to some issues with your electronics, perhaps a bad connection somewhere.

the bose battery is not like the cell battery it shuold be indicating 7.8V

@@pivot4257 yes, but he is talking about shocking the single cell that he exposed. The full battery is comprised of two 18650 cells connected in series, but he only expsed one of the cells, i.e. half of the battery, and intend to chock it with 6 V. Thats a damaging voltage of the single cell.

@@pivot4257 Well, to start with you should never shock Li ion battery cells like this. It is a damaging procedure to this specific battery chemistry and can result in battery fire immediately or in the long term. Shocking techniques are ok to apply to lead acid batteries but not Li ion. But to answer your question, to reach the full battery string you need to connect to the negative terminal of the most negative cell (1s) and the positive terminal of the most positive cell (2s), i.e. not on the same cell.

will the speaker operate without the battery? i'm trying to determine a bad battery before purchasing a new battery

I have same problem. I removed the battery and plugged the speaker in and am still getting red flashing light and not functioning..

@@blu8864 one of the battery charging/controller might be damaged :( I ended up getting a new one after frying either component with a new battery. Brains are still good, if I ever decide to open it up more

It will not work without any batteries because the micro controller would check the presence (or absence) of batteries. If the battery is not present it will not power on
