Yes, I can see that now! It's really great that you've taken the time to make these wonderful demonstration videos. Do you keep all three of those pedals on your board? I bet that makes for some really sweet ambience. I've been a student if the guitar for 45 years... mainly acoustic... but lately I've been drawn into the meditative world of ambient guitar music. Perhaps I'm mellowing in my old age? A-hahaha. Nonetheless, your channel is great. I've subscribed. Keep up the terrific work, Ryan.
These three will be on my new board and I'll be making ambient videos on this channel with that board :) I made a similar transition from acoustic to ambient.. sometimes I mix both! great fun.. Thanks for subscribing! hope you enjoy the future videos :)
People don't realize how deep this pedal really is... Parameter control is still way beyond any other delay pedal to this day... It's only shortcoming is that it has a digital sterility to the sound, but very usable in combination with other delays and effect pedals...
I have a dd-200, same kind of machine, with a mode called Drum that simulates a Binson Echorec V2. It's just amazing and it sounds so warm. I'm using it with acoustic guitars. Terrific pedal.
Hey Ryan - I just want to say Thanks for doing All this Work. Honestly . . . The Most Comprehensive and Informative Instructional Video - I have ever watched on a Guitar Pedal (and I have watched 1000's) = Phenomenal Job beyond words.
this is an incredible showcase of this product. i have this and you have given me a world of ideas. best showing off this effect unit...... period. you do a great job and take a lot of time and detail and i imagine this is not easy. really great job!
this is a old vid but ty ryan someone that knows to give a pedal demo time im lookin at gettin this pedal in the end of 2021 and dig the sounds already and the controllability .
Ryan,You are my favorite demo person on youtube!I have all 3 of the boss 500 pedals and just got the gt 1000.I play electric violin through them all with the Boss sy-300 :D!,so much fun, also, your music on your page rules!!!
Incredibly thorough!!! Thank you for your discipline (and editing). It was interesting to see how the delay types lead you to play to the pedal. Thanks, again. I had to listen over multiple sittings. I look forward to finishing your RV500 video.
This video sold me on this pedal over the DD200 and Line 6 HXFX. Being able to run and route 2 of any delays is just great. Although the delays by themselves are just great. Tera Echo is very musical.
These are the best digital effects on the market. People dont see it because A - they dont cost as much (and more expensive is always better) B - Because Boss isn't a boutique brand. But these pedals are in a league of their own.
Like the RV 500, this Boss pedal often gets passed over in favor of boutique pedals with distinctive one-off features, but far less parameter functionality and for roughly the same price, power source included, not to mention BATTERY operability. Both RV & DD 500 pedals are vastly under-rated/appreciated, but happily for us, easy enough to find on sale for considerably less than most boutique pedals. -Not for nothing have Boss pedals been around for literally decades.
Hey Ryan. Do you know How to Assign GLOBAL TAP TEMPO on the Boss DD-500. The Manual is so limited and it is Impossible to get in contact with any customer support from Boss. Appreciate any input or feedback you can offer me. ( believe me ) I have tried . . . and have had No Luck.
I find the delayed sound in analog mode is a little bit overdriven (clipped). Check 16:25. Is it always like that or tweakable? Thank you for made this excellent demo!
Any chance to get an explanation on using an external effect pedal in the feedback loop? The updated firmware seems to advertise it, and I set it up as per the updated manual "Parameters Added to the DD-500 (Ver.2.00)" but it seems to send the signal from input A, thru the delay line, then straight output B, bypassing my effect pedal (a high gain distortion for testing so I'll know if it's working or not... it's not...)
Such a great walkthrough. Just got my pedal and this helped so much! Just had a question about the SFX delay type. I just want to get some Lo-FI repeats. I noticed that depth bit of 8 and more react differently than 7 or less. I get an abrupt cut off of repeats from 8 or higher compared to 7 or less which runs on longer at the same feedback setting. Is this normal?
I find DD-500 more intimidating in terms of options and sounds than the RV-500, esp in your demos. So I was out for a delay pedal, but maybe will get the RV-500 and have both reverb and delay covered, with limitations obviously, but also getting less confused about the parameters. What would you suggest, if you please?
absolutely fascinating! i've listened to this a felt thousand times.. what makes this sound so good? what is you're signal chain? what preamps do you use to record this? yes, i'm curious ^_^
Glad you like it! :) the signal chain is Ibanez Art320 > Boss DD-500 > Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 > Logic Pro 9 > running the waves gtr stuff (i think) haha hope this helps
I'm trying to run stereo (Digitakt) into this unit and am losing the right side; if I plug in a guitar into that side, the signal is very low. Any ideas? I'm new to this pedal and am not sure of what to do
I took the Boss DD-500 back and paid the difference for a Strymon Volante which does the business. It's a shame Boss didn't make their machine as editable as the Volante. I have just had a blast with the Volante and it's everything I hoped it would be as well as being more user friendly that the Boss. That's it !🤓
You commented above that you bought the pedal, then you say you won’t be buying the pedal, and you deleted me the last time that I pointed out that you lie. Typical strymon is better because it costs more nonsense that makes little to no sense
Boss need to cut down on gimmicks and concentrate on stuff that's useful, there are some good sounds but badly let down by not having the facility to edit individual heads for tone or level on the multi-tap options. This was a deal breaker for me, sorry I won't be buying.
I am ok with almost 2 hours of it, but it is in no way any "In-Depth" demo. By far. You skimp on A/B simul mode both in Series/Pararell, and not one example of Ducking feature, or that you can actually record with one delay onto the looper, and play on top of it with another delay. And then overdub it with the other delay. And also, eschewing all things with expression pedals, or assigns with external or internal footswitches. Scratching the surface I would say. No long 10 seconds "frippertronics" delays either which the unit is capable of. Your demo could be done in a mere 30 minutes, and not dwell too long on each setting. In-Depth videos must cover things that you don't use or care for....too. Whether you like them or not.
It's my style of demo haha I dunno what to tell you.. I enjoy playing and taking my time working through a lot of the sound settings to see what sounds I get. if people enjoy this video enough to buy it, then they have a lot more to look forward to
@@RyanLutton so be it, but you skimp on too many things of it, especially the A/B stuff. Just call it a demo of your favorite things with it. Not even Boss manages to do a in-depth video, so you're definitely not alone. You're in good company! Ok, thanks for not doing that much talking or any at all, and let the effects pedal speak for itself.
@@RyanLuttonsome people will complain about anything. Two hours isn’t enough. I would appreciate a 3 year long tutorial on just the feedback knob next please. But don’t you dare call it “in depth”, it must be 7 years of feedback knobs for that.
