I didn't mention it in the video but it's worth noting the DM-101 has an analog signal path that is digitally controlled. 8 BBD chips doing the heavy lifting, no wonder it sounds so good!
@@oliverchapman51177 Their delays have always been great, but they’ve really been going above and beyond. First, the new Space Echo pedals, then the two SDE-3000 pedals, and now this Delay Machine. I hope they will come out with an SRV-2000 pedal. A CE-1 pedal with the preamp would be great as well. And maybe a Waza Craft BF-2, PH-2R (with the custom mode being the PH-3), and OC-2.
A lot of RU-vidrs also thought this was a digital unit which says a lot about how well Boss’s engineering team designed this fabulous analog pedal. Amazing playing as always!
Oooo, this is fascinating. I’d been “sure” that I wanted to save for the Suhr Discovery as a MIDI capable analog delay, but a new challenger has appeared. If you wind up with both pedals, I’d love to see how their tones compare and where their functionality differs.
The DM-101 isn't entirely digital - it actually utilizes 8 BBD chips in tandem with CPU tech, hence making it a monster of a hybrid pedal. I acquired a Delay Llama Xtreme by JAM Pedals today and the DM-101 is the perfect alternative/competitor to that pedal. Incredible engineering going on these days in the music world!
This is one badass pedal it sounds so good this and the SDE3000 DD EVH Boss are making dreams come true 🤟🏻LT that solo at the end was just ripping dude!

But, there's a CE-1 mode in the CE-2w. I wonder if that could steer them toward reissuing other past products. Someone else mentioned the SRE-555. Looks good to me!
I absolutely love boss gear. I still use a ME-50 processor hooked into a bunch of awesome pedals . I use it as sort of a master control, and can always boost the signal with it. This looks similar just in how it is arranged. I’m sure it’s a killer delay.

Nice demo of what seems to be a fantastic pedal. I'm not sure they "modelled" the BBD noise. This thing actually has 8 BBD chips. They just didn't filter it out...which is great!

Quick question for you Leon, since you have used both this and the RE-202, do you think the Multi-head mode makes the RE-202 obsolete? I'm curious if/why you see value in owning both? As always thank you for the stellar review/demo. :)
The 202 gives you less control over the modulation as it's specifically emulating tape style modulation, but it does have the tape preamp coloration which this doesn't. I think I'd personally grab this for an all around do it all delay an the 202 if i just wanted specific tape echo stuff
This pedal made me realize that one of the biggest shifts in guitar player culture in the last decade or so is that there aren't any more apprehensions about *pedal size* any more. Most of us don't have huge pedal boards, and we were always concerned about pedal board real estate, and there was a short period of time in which pedal manufacturers were putting out micro-pedals. But nowadays it really seems like pedal size does not matter -- all that matters is how GOOD the pedal sounds. We are more willing to chuck 2-3 regular pedals off our board if something with a bigger footprint can do their job and more. Just my opinion anyway. What are your thoughts Leon?
I’ve never been a fan of mini-pedals. Packing all that circuitry into such a tiny enclosure doesn’t seem like a good idea to me. To me, a pedal probably shouldn’t be smaller than a Phase 90. The fact that MXR makes a mini Phase 90 is almost comical.
For a gigging board, trying to cram as many micro pedals as possible is just a bad idea. Our feet aren’t any smaller so it just more difficult. If someone is using a switching device then they make a lot of sense of course. Never found this size of pedal to be a problem. However I think the problem started with people buying commercially available boards and tried to get as many as possible onto those, whereas back in the day it was a very DIY thing, so people were less artificially constrained. Choose the pedals that are right for you, then get a board to suit, not the other way around.
Depends for me. For more complex pedals, sure, but real estate is still important. I’m big on gain stacking, so for me I do like micro pedals for overdrive, especially since they tend to be such simple circuits anyway. I’d much rather have 3 very different sounding overdrives in a mini format then one large dual overdrive like a KoT for instance

I got sent a box and didn't get told anything about it, so based on previous products in this form factor I assumed incorrectly it was all digital and not digitally controlled analog. My bad for assuming there. I should stress this isn't a paid review.

At 0:50 "the DM-100". Isn't it rather the DM-101 as seen on the pedal itself? And at 0:53 "it's digital". No, it's not, it's analog controlled digitally. You could have at least researched the product a little more before doing a promotional video on it for Boss?

Hey Ive been playing since 1987, I own 9 PRS fiddles, I have a tube amp and a Katana, a GT1000, and around 50 or 60 pedals. After all that I use just a bit of reverb at home for flavor. I really cant understand delay lovers. Its cool but man players hear it being used and it becomes a wince fest. That being said, I love Boss stuff but they have too many delays! And now another! This being released right after a major SDE3000 unit last month. They have 10 major delay units available right now, and a handful discontinued. The DM101 is not available in north america as of right now, im guessing you see it first being closer to Malaysia. Its also in the same vein as the RE202 Space echo and that got a compact pedal version also, wonder if this one will.
I love delay, I use 2 on my current pedalboard, the Waza DM-2, and the bigger double green and black Space Echo pedal, don’t use an6 reverb currently. I guess it would depend on how delays are used if it makes you wince, it’s not over using something that makes it stay in a good position mentally. Maybe you have too many people you know who waaaaay overdo it with delay, I know I have friends who do but I still love mine
You’re using too much effect then. There’s very few signature tones (especially lead) out there that don’t have at least a very small, almost unnoticeable, bit of delay layered in. Try using it in place of the reverb but for the same type of effect, rather than thinking of it as an effect that’s only used for repeats
Not impressed by the demo or sound, TC Electronics has been ruling delays forever, this device sounds old and out of date. Not many useable sounds really. A mess.
The flashback was great, stayed on my board for years. But it was permanently taken off a few years back. This has a permanent place on my board now, and I use either a Keeley Halo or Eventide Ultratap for my second delay and/or for digital delay sounds. That “outdated” tone is just what analog delay sounds like. And it’s typically more pleasing unless specifically aiming for that clinical, 80s rock tone (which I also like).
Love the look. It's just the sound I think is okay. Not sure what it is it just sounds okay to me. Features out the ass though. I currently have an RE-202, Galaxy 74, Del-Verb ,Line 6 Dl4mkii, and a '90s Deluxe Memory Man. Love delay, but not sure about this one. It does do a lot though.
