Boss FZ-1w Fuzz and Buffers? | theoandhispedals 

I completely agree. I prefer it with the buffer. I wonder if what's happening is that the buffer is doing its job ie that the white noise is just the natural top end and gain being restored by the buffer. Without the buffer maybe there is some signal degradation.... I'm not sure though... I didn't think it was a particularly long cable run.

@@TheoAndHisPedals I’m pretty sure that the fz-1w has a buffer in it but that would only take care of things from that pedal, on down the line to the amp. Maybe the buffer from the loop pedal is bringing back some sparkle that’s missing from the guitar side of the chain. That dude over at vertex pedals has a bunch of videos on buffers. He’s alllll about them. I’m still trying to figure most of it out myself. I use an analogman buffer at the end of my pedalboard signal chain and I have the Peterson strobostomp HD tuner at the beginning which you can put in buffered bypass or 100% true bypass. If I use a fuzz of any sort at all, I will just put it off to the side of my board and plug my guitar, (well, my bass) into it directly and go from there. I dunno man… noise is annoying but what would rock and roll be without noise?! 🤪

Oh I meant the buffer from the Boss RC-3, I imagine the FZ-1w's buffer doesn't do anything whilst the fuzz is on. Its only recently that I started paying attention to buffers before fuzzes.... Unsurprisingly when I got a fuzz face and the difference was pretty difference. I guess I'd always known that the something like the Zvex Woolly Mammoth didn't like buffers or active basses....its a fuzz face variant I believe so that checks out. I feel like the majority of bass fuzzes I've tried when I was younger was basically some variant of a big muff, and they don't seem to care about buffers or signal placement. I think going forward I'm going to have to check out the impact (or lack of) a buffer has on pedals after it.

@@TheoAndHisPedals yeah man, I hear ya. That’s what I was saying though… I think that the looper is definitely putting something back in the chain that maybe the guitar or cable after it is missing. It’s always like a science experiment over here at my house too. lol
