Hey Tian, thanks for creating these content. that's extremely helpful. Can I ask your opinion about two topics related to this video? 1)If you were trying to use own expression pedal (wah) with your GX-100: Would you be using the send/return? Would you connect: guitar > expression pedal > GX-100 (expression pedal in front of the GX-100)? Or any other way not mentioned? 2) Considering you are playing a gig and want to send your sound in line to the mixing desk but you also want to send to your amp on stage so you have sound return on stage: Would you use the send in Normal mode / direct mix / branch out ? Thank you so much for your attention. Cheers!
Hi there, thanks for watching my video! 1/, you would plug your expression pedal into the dedicated CTL/EXP port in the back and configure it as EXP2 with whatever you assign in the CTL/EXP menu. Depending on the pedal, you may need a TRS (stereo) cable for this otherwise the Expression Pedal may not work. 2/ if you are sending from the send Jack to your onstage amp or monitor, set it to Branch Out. Cheers
@@tianjay thank you so much for replying! I'll give it a go :) for the branch out send on stage where in the chain would you recommend keeping the send/return icon? Before pre-amp and everything or after everything? Thanks again! Excellent content on your channel! 🙌🙌🙌
@@Franzuccato Place the Send/Return at the very end so that you're hearing everything in your chain. FYI, I'm just doing an Expression Video right now, should be uploaded in an hour or so. Cheers
No, just think of the S/R as an effect slot. Whatever is used in it should be placed appropriately in the FX Path (chain) so in the example i used, where i have an external OD, i would place it before the Amp Sim in the same way i would with a built in OD.. if it was a time based effect, it would typically go after. The tricky thing would be if you wanted to use a couple of external pedals chained together, then it’s not going to work as well.
Great video Tian - thanks for sharing the tips. I run my GX-100 in manual mode and also use the the dividers to run two amps and add a NS after each amp within the divider, it's done a good job having two NS to reduce signal noise. Then the S/R setup I have is the 4 Cable Method into the amps S/R loop and I'm not using the SR block within the GX-100's signal path so that the GX-100's Deluxe and Twin preamps replace the preamp of my physical amp. It's a little hack I saw in a Double D video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nAEJshSA2IQ.html. I'm assuming if let's say I wanted to add a Strymon Big Sky and/or Timeline, I would add those pedals coming after the physical amp's effects loop, en-route to back into my GX-100?
Sound like a great setup! The GX100 is definitely very flexible and it still blows my mind how versatile and great sounding it is for a pedal in its price-point! Enjoy mate!
