It's wonderful to see and hear two masters like Nev and Richard putting these amps through thier paces like this! I'm not myself in the market right now but there's always a lot to be gained from watching a film like this. Nice one gentlemen! 🌟👍
These amps are underrated. If you tested people blindfolded half the haters in the comments would get it wrong. I love high end tube amps, but if you sound bad on a Katana you need to spend more time on your playing. Sorry.
Thank you both, that was quite a lot of fun! Great playing and excellent demonstration of capabilities with a clear-eyed discussion about strengths and use-cases. Bravo!
I'm a hobby player and as far as bang for the buck, three are phenomenal amps. Considering all the "amp models" and a ton of onboard effects. I have the 100 Gen 3, the GAFC switch, a Boss tuner, a TS9 , noise gate, compressor, volume pedal and yeah on my board. Pretty much all I need to emulate my heros.
Very useful video, thanks. I'm probably going to go for the Gen 3 Head, which I'll use through a Peavey 212 cabinet for gigs, and on its own for recording in my home studio.
With all due respect, the elephant in the room that is almost never mentioned is that the Katana amps are essentially designed to not be repairable after the warranty period (2 years if purchased after 1/1/23). Only Boss "authorized service centers" have the parts and techs who can repair them. In some cases the product can only be serviced at the southern California repair center. I'd wager that Boss does not repair many warranty returns because it's cheaper to simply replace the defective unit. When you combine the cost of shipping both ways, the tech fee (currently $80/hour) and cost of parts, it is simply not cost-effective for owners to repair the amp vs. buying a new one.
I’ve been in guitar shops and heard people trying out guitars and thought that’s sounds nice assuming it’s a valve amp and surprised to see it’s a Katana The Artist you can have 3 delays now with delay, delay/reverb and delay in the solo section
Honestly many people who use the katana use it at home and for that it’s pretty good. Personally I prefer simpler amps though. Less option means more playing for me.
