I just picked up the MKII head. I’m can’t believe how decent the stupid little 5 inch speaker sounds. The future is amazing. I don’t know the dude from this video but I like how he showcases the tones here and I like his style of playing. He reminds me of me a little. Very cool bends and chords and interval choices.
@@kristopherthomas7166 I’m contemplating getting this or the mk50 combo. I’m going to military soon so the head seems more convenient to be moving around. Plus i can just buy a cab later if needed. And it has an fx loop for when I get to that part in my guitar journey. But the combo cost less and is all on one. How is the sound quality on the 5 inch speaker.
The best demonstration I've ever seen, of what this amp is really capable of. Your versatility and variety of playing styles is outstanding. Just ordered one after watching and listening to this. loved all the licks from Rammstein, Iron Maiden to Pink Floyd and everything in between. I could see your mind ticking as you played with the settings/effects, picking different songs and riffs, just awesome!
You got a Mk1 Head too and aren't Stereo Linking it to this one? That's freaking crazy! I got a Mk2 Head Stereo Linked to a MK1 Head powering two MTX TP112 cabs I had laying around and it sounds awesome in all it's Boss stereo effects glory 'n loud AF!
i dig your setup i have the same epi Custom LP going thru a katana head and i use a boss metalzone pedal for extra heavy shock value. I sent Katana Head Back to roland under extended warranty . thanks for the help info guitar channel
Nice amp Huh? I have one as well. Invest in the GA-FC Foot switch if you ca. I can't play anywhere near as good as you but yo will find the foot switch a nice addition to your Head. I notice you are not using the effects very much. The switch will change that I'm guessing.
any tips on the fixing the speaker ? my boss katana mk2 head speaker wont work but headphone jack works, and can still here sounds but no speaker at all any suggestions?
If the speaker doesn't work when not plugged into a cab, it is most likely an issue with the amplifier. Apart from that I would get a quote from an amp Tech and see if it's worth repairing
yes, it has a 5 inch speaker that seems to give a more then decent sound and is good for practicing at home. then you can use a good cabinet for jigs and the other issues when you want to play loud, you can have more then a cabinet (but you can't use them at the same time) to give to the amp different tones as the speaker is a big part in how an amp sounds. Using the internal little speaker it is also easier to carry around compared to the cabinet version with the 12 inch speaker and like the artist it has midi ports so it can be used with let's say an helix controlling the katana trough the helix and midi commands instead of using its dedicated pedal board. I recently bought the 100w cabinet version, but I have to admit that the head is a very interesting choice, you can use it as it is for practice and has more expansion potential then the cabinet version that has not a port for an external cabinet (here the fix is easy) and not a midi port, unless you go for the artist that is more costly then the mk2 head and cabinet ones.
@@GettingBentWithBo as i told I don't own the head but the 12 inch cabinet model so I can not answer you, but reading the other comments of the video and having seen other reviews I would argue that is plenty loud for home practicing, but not enough for gigging, I also suppose that at the loudest volume it can get it does not sound very well, is only a 5 inch speaker after all...if you want something that let you practice and gig as it is go for the 12 inch speaker cabinet model, i would say the 100w one as it has the fx loop, if you want something that is good for practicing as it is, but needs a cabinet for gigging and allows to be controlled trough midi go for the head.
@@TomPark1986 hmmm… i have a 20 watt tube amp , which even that is attenuated… heavily… its too loud for my house un attenuated but i do love all that saturated tube sound and feel at low volumes.. im just wondering if the 5 inch speaker would keep up with my attenuated tube amp in a wet/dry set up.
@Far Stox cheers bro, thanks for the reply. I was just trying to gage whether it would keep up with a heavily attenuated 20w tube amp in a two amp blend. I was thinking of having the katana head wet and the Marshall tube amp dry . The katana head would be a bit darker and cleaner in tone where the Marshall would be a bit more broken up edge of break up and slightly more present and that would be the blend of the two amp base tones as such. I just dont know whether the 4x12 cab would just completely drown out the 5inch speaker on the katana head which would be directly above the cab but under the marshall head ( just trying to describe it the best visuslly so you may understand ) ……although i think as a wet dry setup you would definitely hear some separation. Like i said the 20w tube head is heavily attenuated as the amp itself is dialled in about 75% of input gain and master volume , so in a lounge without attenuating its stupidly loud. With the attenuation i get the sweet sound i want but at lower volumes.
Mine does that too, especially with downtuned stuff. I think it's normal: at the end it's still a 5'' speaker (pretty great for what it delivers). Try to use the tube screamer booster to reduce the farts :)
