Scott Graves of the On Track Music Guitar School gives you a thorough run through of the features that this excellent and affordable pedal by Boss has to offer. www.ontrackguitar.com/
I purchased an ME-80 a couple of months ago, it's a great Multi and I've had a few over the last 30 years, none were as easy to operate as this ME80. Your video is the best I've seen, it describes how to use the M E80 extremely well. Yep, Short sweet and simply. Well done.
Great demo to get me started. Not too complicated and mercifully short. I ran my Rickenbacker 360-12 thru the Overtone effect: Wow! What a great sound. The 12-string has octave strings on it to begin with, but played thru the Overtone effect plus some compression the full, rich output is incredible, esp if you're playing single-note leads. Thanks for your help!
Brother you could spend all day and all night with this thing and still not get the same effect twice!. But be patient! They have people on here that will show you how to set up for a lot more bands. I love mine running through my Randall Half Stack
@@Ace-cl4tc You still diggin the BOSS Me-80? Considering buying one for LIVE situations, more or less ........ need a good multi-effects unit that can be utilized "on the fly" etc ...
@@hazor777 yes I'm still playing on it and I love it!. Once you get used to setting it up there isn't really any effect that you can't mimic. And I love the fact that you have knobs on this unit! With the more expensive unit there is no knobs which I don't like. But it's very rugged and I still stand by my own 100%
Great demo, and I love that the buttons are all there and it is so easy to learn how to use. No menu nightmares and learning all of the manual. And the effects sound great (it IS Boss)
Thanks! I'm picking up a used one this weekend...this is a great demo...nice that you actually SHOWED how to use the features, rather than just talk about them. It was a big help! Thanks!!
I know the others have already said this but this is a really great review and explanation on what this thing can really do! I finally understand it now haha. Thanks!
Thanks for this demo, by far the best I have come across and making it so simple to understand the features. I purchased this unit about 7 years ago when I was a beginner on Electric Guitar and only just looking to use it as I have joined a band as Lead Guitarist, that sounds like a big word. In fact I am retired and I have suddenly gone from a Home/ Hobby guitarist to joining a few musicians in our village as a band. I have a BOSS Katana 50 AMP which has a lot of effects on it but not practical when changing from one song to another. BOSS ME 80 is far more versatile. with my pre set settings for different effects. Well Done from Downunder in OZ
This is such a good demo! I’ve ordered mine I can’t wait for it to arrive. I’ve been playing gigs for a while and been using my pick up selectors as pedals. This is going to open up so many possibilities!
By far the best Demo I have ever seen on youtube , I have been looking at theses and now I will feel comfortable buying one ..a big thumbs up to you !! How long can the loop recording be ?
This is the best 11 and a half min. tutorial on this pedal Straight to the point and helped me figure out what some of the features are and how to access certain things. Thanks, even though, I just got a new ME 80, and it's 7 years after this video came out.
I just purchased this pedal, this is an excellent tutorial video, thank you! The pedal is great for a bedroom rocker like me, easy to use, nice tones for everything. :-)
I just bought a ME 80 last night I love it I am so happy I just sold my Boss GT 100 it was to much for me the ME 80 is much more user friendly I wish I would have bought one along time ago thanks for the video.
I like mine so far! The hundred series didn't look user-friendly at all! I think I did the right thing going with the me - 80! Thank you for a excellent video! Especially the looping feature! You've got your own Rhythm player! Love it!
Randy Clere what do you think about it? Would you recommend it? I am interested in getting one of these, so I was wondering whether you could give some advise.
how to save your patch? and what does that ctl button do? the one beside the write button? I was planning to get the boss gt100 but I found this one much easier to use.
Davit Cherqezishvili So on the back of the unit there is something that looks like a headphone jack, maybe labeled “recording out” or something like that. You need to plug headphones in that to activate the cab simulation. The “terrible” noise you’re hearing is what you hear when you have an amp model on without a cab simulation on. Brittle, harsh, awful. Hope this helps!
Agreed. I do actually own an OD1, a SD1, a GE7, a a Mooer Delay, the Mooer Reverb, a Digitech TubeScreamer and every now-and-then I connect them all and fire op the analog board. And allways somewhat laterI go back to the ME80. Nothing I need I can t handle. And still learning, after 10 yrs of spotless service. Whatever shitty amp the gig venue owns, the ME80 in front of any half decent (also trans) amp is enough. One night simply hookes up to the PA. Stereo sound the kinda fun. Im looking forward to the ME100. Really hoping it makes its appearance 🙏 soon. More reverb parameters, longer lmukti track ooper, incorporated drums, two drive pedals, wider chorus. Then it would be perfect.
Nice review, Scott! In 2001 or 2002, I had the choice to get either the GT-6 or ME-50. Since the GT-6 cost more, I assumed it must be better, so I chose it. After that, I ALWAYS wished I had purchased the ME-50 instead for its simplicity. True, the GT-6 had lots of sounds but, realistically, I only ended up creating 4 or 5 patches that I used for years. Since then, I have gone through all kinds of rig setups using everything from all digital effects into solid state amps, to plain ol' analog stomp pedals into tube amps. I have found my home in tube amps, but as far as effects pedals go, I absolutely must have an all-in-one multi-effects unit designed for playing out live. I'm currently using the Mooer Black Truck and really digging a combination of its Over Drive with Compressor and EQ. My only complaint with it is that Mooer opted to go with a Flanger effect instead of Chorus. The Flanger can come close to getting a Chorus sound, but that unmistakable flanger "sweep" is always present - no matter how you set it. Maybe I'll try one of these Boss ME-50s now and see if the new amp models are acceptable. (The GT-6 amp models were very "digital" sounding and a bit on the sterile side. I wouldn't want the modeled amp tones in the ME-50 to override the tone of my tube amps. I guess I could leave its amp models turned off and just use the effects sections, right?) Thanks, Scott!
Thanks for doing this, I've been using a GT5 for donkeys years and thought it was about time for something new. Your demo is perfect and to the point without having to listen to someone trying to show off the guitar playing capability the only one who enjoys listening to that is them. Anyway, I've ordered one of these as a result. Many thanks for your trouble.
@@accentontheoff Well I was very happy with it, but now I have gone back to using my GT5. The reason being I play in a local covers band and one of the songs is Bon Jovi "It's my life" I made a talk box for just that but it is a lot of work setting it all up with a mic (I don't sing) small amp and pipe etc...etc just for one song, so I thought I'd just use the voice option on the ME 80 but it was pretty poor, with very little control over the vowel sounds. I knew the GT5 had an option of selecting the vowel sounds for the up and down of the pedal, I needed "o" and "a" which the GT5 happily facilitates whereas the ME 80 does not. But that is the only reason. Once the band decides to drop It's my life I'll get the ME 80 back out. But in answer to your question I am happy with my purchase.
@@accentontheoff Hi, The audio quality on both is good, in fact very good but they are not the same. The GT5 has a far deeper level of adjustment to each sound. The parameters are astounding for a piece of kit from that age. The GT5 is a brilliant multiple effects unit. I'd say without an equal to be be perfectly honest. However, things move on and the ME 80 has a far better basic sound selection. The ease of adjustment to an already excellent setting makes it so easy to use and comes up with every kind of sound you'd ever want (apart from the talk box) But there is no adjustment beyond the basic settings but having said that, the basic sounds are so good you don't really need to delve that deep. Also making the adjustments on a PC hooked up to the unit makes setting it all up so easy where you can see what each parameter is set at instantly which you cant do on the unit as the knobs could be set to any setting for a previously adjusted sound, they only activate when you turn the knob, so they could be showing you 10 when it in reality it is only 4. I like the newer sounds of the ME 80 and as I said there is no reason not to use it in my band as I have done for a few months and I have no problems with it at all, it is a great unit and if not for the sake of one song I would be using tonight. You seemed pretty enthusiastic about it on the video, do you still feel the same way? No reason not to but I suppose the more you use something, the more things you find that you can't do. I know from your accent you are in the USA somewhere hope things are good there and the band scene is picking again, it has been pretty bad for the live music over here in the UK since Covid but things are getting back to some normality over the last 3 or 4 months. Stay well brother...
I have noticed that in every review of this ME 80, the demonstrators are playing solid body guitars. I have a Gibson ES 335 - semi hollow body. Is there any reason I could not use this board with my Gibson? Thank you.
The strange thing about technology 4 years later is I would prefer just an updated effects pedal board like this with sends, returns, and such, but minus their amp technology that could be set up for the use of multiple effects from Boss. I like all the knobs for adjustments right there on the board. Guess the closest thing is the Line 6 multi effects board that doesn't have the amp sims. Thanks for the demo.
10:10 - That's the riff for the Grateful Dead's Deal- can I get close to a 'Jerry tone'with the ME-80? BTW-great review-thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge!
Hello Admin: I need serious help: I cannot find the me80 driver for windows10 in the official Website of the Boss.the file is available but after the download i can find only the Readme File and not the setup of the driver. help me brother.
I like mine with a few reservations; the CTL still puzzles me, in how many parameters i can change, and if I have to write for every change (one at the time), that doesn't seem right. I so wish there was a Fender twin for cleans, the stack is really good but i would love to have one from the GT-100 (input 1 & 2 patched = warmer, more low mids). If you go to FOH from the unit, you can't really use a normal amp as a monitor.
i have a ME 80, you didn`t mention that it has a UBS connection for PC. i have it connected to a vgm 14 mixer, using the guitar out cable. i play guitar, but more drums. was having an issue with headphones with low Impedance, any mixer you would need 80 ohms or higher, so with the way i have it set up, i can use 25 ohm headphone from the ME 80. and the sound still powers through the monitors. and the jamming continues...
I can hear the enthusiasm in your voice. Thumbs up on that alone.I just got my GT 100. I am glad I did not sell my ME 80. The GT has lots of fuzzy fizzy sounds that so far (week 2) I haven't been able to get around. I don't seem to have that problem with the 80. The 80 is far more intuitive & has far less parameters to have to deal with. Not fond of the amp models on either of them though. Good vid & thanks.
Can you use more than one effect from the same section like a chorus and a flanger at the same time? Do you have to use an amp simulator or can you just use the effects with your own amp? Thanks
You can not, but to circumvent this limitation, the 'important' effects are on the board at least twice in different sections. So if you use a flanger, you can't choose that section's chorus, but you can choose another chorus from another section, which is at a different place in the chain, but you at least you don't miss out on the effect. You do not have to use an amp simulator, but, as far as I know, you have to use the preamp-section to get any sound out. There is however a 'clean' amp without any tonal infliction of any kind to choose in the preamp section, which would be what you want to use if you only want the effects and put the box in line with your amp. You can always use the effect send / return of your amp if you want to use the pedal only for the effects I reckon. I think the most common practice ( purely following personal experience ) if you want to use your (combo)amp is to go guitar -> BOSS with its preamp active -> your comboamp on the clean channel. So you get the comboamp to add to your sound, but not shape it. If you wanted to use the comboamp's distortion / preamp section, you'd hook the BOSS to the effects send/return. A word of advice, if you have a good enough amp to continue using it for OD / DS, this BOSS product might not be the one for you as you'd basically only need like half of its features. It is amazing, tho, for people practicing with headphones as well as people that want to go directly into a mixer/PA at gigs. My 2 cents.
gtrman69777 I have one of these as well. You can’t use multiple effects from the same section, but the did add some of the same effects to other sections so you can use whatever two effects you want or need to use.
cuz of your review I am buying one thanks!! Best review here folks!! One question..can you stick 2 delays in one bank at same time? so I have a delay at tempo and a 40-80ms delay at same time
I have used ME-30, GT-3 and lot more..never liked Boss multi pedals. But his one rocks....hands down. And thanks for making the review so simple that I would not need the manual even.
