I just got this pedal a few days ago, and literally just tried it out for the first time a few hours ago. I was feeling sick from a graphic documentary I had to watch for film class, so I needed to get my mind off things. Decided to bring out the new pedal at 10pm at night, made sure my Fender Pro Jr was at 2 and just started cranking out tunes on my Fender Strat Pro2 with the RC5. Let me tell you, a whole hour felt like 10 mins! I went to another place. Looped a few basic cords and just played around them. Love this pedal, small, simple to use, tons of fun, seems durable. I highly recommend it. Never owned a looper pedal before so this was a good choice.
Thanks man been eyeing this up for a few years now and need some guitar positivity your comment has secured my interest prior was Looking at the boss rc-3 for several years and then they release the rc-5 and rc-3 is discontinued !! Thanks for The comment boss has another customer
@@willkoestner4159 Oof, I can’t remember to be quite frank, however it was concerning cartel violence. That documentary was so graphic that I was physically ill after watching it. The music helped me forget about it. Anyway, sorry I can’t remember the documentary’s name.
@@PMTVUK hey buddy!I'm having trouble figuring out why when I first loop it in a clean guitar sound, and then go to play over it distorted it distorts my already clean loop as soon as I press press distortion pedal!have any idea how to stop this??
@@grub117 yes it was,i do use overdrive channel on my Blackstar and a sparkle drive to boost it so o figured that was why,so I plugged it into the effects loop in the back with my reverb and that worked, but now I can't change the reverb without it changing the sound again🤣
Sam, thanks for this video. This looper can do SO much that it's a little intimidating just to get started, but you broke this down so well that I know I'm going to keep coming back to it. There are a lot of RC-5 videos out there, but of all that I've watched, this is one of the best. And great playing!!
Just got this pedal as a birthday present. It is a BEAST of a loop station, and already with very instructive videos like these very easy to use.. It gives credit to Boss once again that 13hrs of loop memory once again has been fitted in the already known pedal shape. I am also a big EHX fan of which I also own several pieces, but Boss outmatches them for fitting even the most complex of functions in the same pedal shape. I was already floored by the Boss SY1 synth pedal, but this loop station...well. enough said. Try one and you will see what I mean.
I've just been ploughing through the user manual for my new RC5 and my head was spinning. This is the best and easiest to understand user guide I've come across. Nice work
@@chrisjamesies the battery life is definitely long enough if you are taking it to a gig, band practice, etc. but for just practicing at home getting a power supply is the way to go.
Man tbh its kind of a no brainer lmao idk anyone that regularly uses batteries for pedals anymore. like 50 bucks for a donnar power supply that includes all the cables and 9v power for up to 8 pedals. You can mount it under your board and power a whole board with one physical plug into the circuit.
Thank you for sharing, great video! I thought the rc-3 is the best but obviously this one is much better with the 32 bit and extended drum options. These Boss pedals are perfect.
Money's been something else though I just bought this yesterday and can't wait to dig in. I have been looping for many many years though after using the Ditto X4 and having it MIDI sync'd to my drum machines/interface using the RC3 just wouldn't do. Not being able to pick the BPMs and not having MIDI made it almost unuseable for me. I'm excited to see the upgrades and just ordered the MIDI 2.0 cable. I'm excited and want to say thank you for doing this video breaking down some of the product.
Im gonna pick up an rc5 tomorrow just because of the drum machine. Id rather buy one loop station instead of shelling out an extra 300 for a beat buddy
Just got mine yesterday and the manual that IS INCLUDED with a brand new, unopened pedal is not that helpful. Great bit of pointers you provided. Thanks!
I've just rented one of these but feel completely overwhelmed given my lack of experience w pedals in general. Thanks for providing some insight, even if I'm still confused.
one thing that can up the game on this is, a small attachable remote control for all the hand controls instead of bending down everytime you want to change something.
How has it been for you!! I got to mess around with one at my friends house the other day and I liked it so much that I ended up buying it. Definitely a huge upgrade from the 50 dollar one I’ve been using for the past while.
Thanks for the Intro, covers a lot of useful things! I have a question though: Is it possible to control, or rather toggle the drum kits via an external footswitch? If so, would I need a MIDI footswitch for that or would a regular one like Boss FS-6 do the trick? I know that this scenario might not be the most common but I'd like to have the option to have the rhythm section not kick in as soon as I begin recording, but say as the second or third layer of the loop.
@@ScottPhillipsCreative I have not bought either but from what I gathered afterwards a MIDI footswitch is the only solution. There are small ones like the MIDI Baby by Desaster but they are quite pricey
I upgraded from RC-3 last November and I had about 20 songs recorded and saved. I play full backing with tempo set, guitar, bass then extra guitar. I noticed recently that even though they were saved it put the generic beat under the songs in the incorrect tempo! I put a lot of effort into these and now they’re useless. I’m very very angry now as it seems this thing scrambled and botched my tracks for some reason. Anybody else experience this?
Excellent overview. I just had a session with mine for the first time and found it pretty frustrating. Hence the video search. This was excellent. Boss should thank you for making this. Probably save a lot of returns. One Question - when I created a loop, the playback was louder than my guitar through the amp. How I set the playback to be at a lower volume than my guitar? Is it possible?
You click on the loop level button, there should be written "loop level" on the screen, if not click another time, and then turn it anticlockwise, normally it should work
At the beggining of the video, how did you manage the loop not to record immediately after the button was pressed, but, the record started when precisely you started playing guitar?
Nice demo and awesome little pedal! I'm def getting one... maybe even 2 to synch them together for a 2 track looper! Were you'r tones coming from the Boss GT 1000? Nice playing and tones! :)
Will this looper sync the drums to a loop? Example If i play a basic loop first, then can you just sync the drums to the loop you just previously played, or do you have to start drums first, then loop your loop???? 👍
Can u pick out an individual channel? Say like pick channel A & record 1 loop of music & send that loop to only channel A? And then choose channel B & record something completely different & send that to channel B only? That would be so cool. Being able to split the channels like that & stack competing recordings would be a game changer for anyone.
Helpful video. It should be noted this comes with no manual nor does the Boss website offer one. I am sure I am not getting all I could be out of mine as I have no patience for playing around in a bunch of menus that are not intuitive. At least I can save some loops after watching this.
Owners manuals plus reference guides in various languages are available on the Boss website product page. You can also download the Boss Tone Studio software which can be used to import/export files directly to the unit. www.boss.info/global/support/by_product/rc-5/
Yes, they do come with a manual if purchased brandnew. I purchased mine yesterday from GC and the manual was there, although it doesn't go into great detail.
@@SeabeeBuckeye This is correct, technically, though the “manual” it comes with is more of a quick start guide. For example it is advertised as being able to upload backing tracks...definitely won’t find that in the “manual”. Manuals should explain how to use all the features otherwise label it a quick start guide.
How do you play some clean tones, save it then switch your amp to gain without changing the clean tone previously saved, without it switching to gain tone as well?
Thank you Sir! Please show me, how can i adjusted up and down volume of rhythm (Drum) on RC5 pedal. I feel the sound of Drum is too loud for the guitar volume. I want down volume of Drum, while keeping the guitar volume, i hope you can help me. Thank a lot!
Question: Where the looper output goes In? Because drum sound in my Fender Reverb Deluxe seems to be really weird for me especially with the tremolo on.🤣
I've had MANY loopers, three this year alone..... boss my favorite. I've purchased two RC-5 about a year apart. This second one seems to have a volume issue with the drum tracks being excessivly LOUD! since I never experienced the problem with the first RC-5 ..... I'm gluessing the second one might be damaged? I have tried finding a global volume control with no avail. I ran a factory reset twice, with no change. I hate to sell it and pass on the problem to someone else, I also hate to take a $175 dollar loss! Any thoughts?
Thanks for this! Maybe someone can help me with this, none of the tutorials I've watched cover it: How do I record just 1 phrase and then stop it without playing it back right away? If I record and then press the pedal (be it short, long, twice,...) it immediately plays back. But I want to just stop it and play back later on. Is this possible?
Quick question. How do I get my guitar to sound louder than the looper? When I turn down the volume of the looper the guitar also gets softer. I'm trying to build my own backing track on the looper but want the looped tracks to be in the background and not so up front. thanks.
A question: just transferred loops to my laptop for the first time. No problems. Only - The drums are missing. Is there anyway to get them included into the wav file so to speak?
I just got one but it may be faulty? The looper is very loud and with my guitar full on it is barely audible over the looper. The "Loop Level" doesn't make any difference from zero to 100. Shouldn't that be the way to turn down the looper volume?
1 question here! Let’s say I set the footswitch to “MEMORY INC”. If I’m playing memory01 then press that footswitch (so it changes to memory02), will it continuously play memory02 right away? Or I have to press the pedal again to play that memory02 loop? If it plays right away, I could use memory01 as the verse section, and memory02 as the chorus section. This is a killer feature for me and I can’t see anyone demo it. I really wanna know if it works before buying the RC-5 + footswitch combo. Thanks in advance!
You can put the distortion into your amp then with a patchcable to the looper and then in the guitar I think. Make sure you first put the cable from your amp in the distortion pedal tho because if your first put the looper it won’t record with the distortion pedal
Also, is there a way to send the drum beat out to output A and have output B with no drums? I am connected to a guitar amp and bass amp and don't want the drums coming out of the Output B bass amp
@@Hermes33925 From what I understand, it’s not a function you set. It just does it automatically. Say you’re looping a guitar. Now it’s playing the loop. Turn the drum on and it should quantize to your loop. I say “it should” because sometimes it it doesn’t depending on what you’re playing. Drum patterns, time signatures might make a difference. Hope that helps.
I come from the infinity looper and I change few days ago to the boss rc 5 because I reduce the side of my pedalboard. I use ableton as a midi master clock for the looper and I use to Record at the start of the next measure after the switch has been pressed. That's work perfect in the infinity but I don't see this option in the Boss. How can I do this or similar with the RC 5?
Can you use one input for vocals and one for guitar? I need an independent channel for vox and an independent channel for guitar. Is that going to be something that I could do on this?
