The first moment I saw the MKII I found it kinda strange tho having far far faaaar less experience than you all I thought I might just be stoopid XDD Now after hearing BreZ telling us how he is using the MKI especially in a live environment it seems even more strange they omited the mic volume knob : o Many thx in advance! @@ameerhazim9495 that's what most people think/assume but if I remember correctly in their very first KBB loopstation reaction he explained that he dropped out because he couldn't do his routines on the MK2 because it had so many bugs so he decided to drop out because he didn't wanted to do rounds he's not happy/proud with

Haha tbh, it does amazing things, I did things with this machine in a few days that I will never be able to do with the MK1. The problem is, I have upcoming shows, and it would have been nice to have my current songs on the MK2 and possibly upgrade them. But it's just not possible.
After watching this video, it almost seems like they missed their audience of loopstation beatboxers and are focusing more on musicians like myself who use instruments/etc... The input knob alone is such an important way to mix live, incredibly weird they decided to take that out. I can control the input of stuff on my instruments or through a DAW but for people who try to just use the loop station alone that's such a freakish oversight. They've also decreased the audio quality of alot of the software vsts their using in the mkii it seems, step rate/phaser/robot all are so bad. All while making them way more difficult and not as user friendly. It's super unfortunate and I'm hoping they update it with the people who made this loopstation as popular as it is in mind...
We told BOSS a lot of these things, that if they wanted to release this product that serious changes needed to be made. Is it an upgrade? yes, but we're talking about a device made back in 2013 compared to 2021, of course it should be better. As for not being able to play your songs, I had the exact same issue for a lot of mine, I wanted to bring my GBB and KBB wildcard for GBB, but I could not make them sound the way they're meant to sound on mkii (RIP TAPE ECHO). With a new device they're gonna update a lot of features and that means they might change effects that we've been accustomed to. My only suggestion unfortunately is to stick to Mk1 for tracks you've made, and Mk2 for new tracks, unless you wanna change how the track sounds.
And that's exactly what I am going to do. I'm just a bit mad that they released the prototype you guys had for KBB. It's full of errors, it freezes, crashes, doesn't work properly. I don't care so much about my songs at the end of the day, my MK1 is there for that. But it's so unethical to sell people a machine that is not ready to be sold.
@@BreZBeatbox Completely agreed. Us KBB participants were promised an updated Loopstation once it came out (along with a 1000$ voucher but they forgot about that), but its very disappointing to see that the version everyone is getting is basically the product.

I will say (after having seen the video), the mk2 was always going to be less user friendly. For example, yes the filter steprate has changed, and you won't be able to get the exact same pattern that was previously possible. However, you're capable of making a completely unique filter pattern that's never been used before (why the trumpet sound in my R4 vs Mirsa is possible). Does it take time? Definitely, and the amount of customization will make it less user friendly. But these complex options are what will allow the Mk2 to compete with second devices. Also you can make extra c o n t e n t by remixing all your previous rounds with the mk2.
Yeah, it's what I had planned to do initially, make new songs with the MK2. But for example I just wish that I could at least play my MK1 songs in shows without bringing two loops with me. Also, the steprate is just not a random thing that I put like that on my TFX. I knew exactly what I wanted for Girls Like or Criminal as steprate on the filter, and unfortunately now, I tried for hours, I just couldn't find it.
@@singhaujla3243 he had to use his best song against brez (the person above me also said this), but also, Frosty still had to use his best round against rythmind to win, which is imo why frosty didnt win the finals. my final before GBB even started was Frosty vs Dice and i had Dice winning. and tbh, if dice didnt have problems with his mixing as bad as he did, he wouldve won against chris, and i know bizkit was confident as fuck going in, but hes not beating dice if dice brings his best to the table im sorry. for me, dice is still the best looper in the world (sad that we wont see him for atleast 2 years now)
The input change makes so much sense during the elimination rounds and the kickback it seems like people had issues with their vocals not being loud enough to come over their beat.
I love how you are putting each and everything in front of us bluntly... And it actually makes sense because there are lot of loopers who will buy blindly just because it's an upgrade you know? Without knowing anything about it so, I appreciate how you are helping the community in this way. 🙏
Hahahaah I knew it. THe rc 505 had loads of bugs and loads of people complaining at the beggining, I waited and was happy when i got mine and even happier when they released software v2.0 so this will be a similar and perhaps more drawn out story. this is crazy man. i will keep my 505´s for now so thanks for the heads up
Hey brez, knowing this community and knowing how positive we are, I have faith that next year an update will be release for the mk2 because they will listen to feedback from those such as yourself with a platform. I’ll be here to listen no matter if it’s mk1 mk2 or mk1000. You’ve got talent and skill my friend so keep at it!
If you are a begginer looper, and are debating getting this device i would say yes, because you can still learn as updates roll out. If you are someone that is experienced in looper or has a had a 505 mk1 for a signficant ammount of time, it might be worth the wait. But i still bought one anyway, and have been happy with it.
@@zombbies Yes i would get one, because many of the issues that loopers are having with it right now, you probably would not notice. Apart from the occasional crashes, and the loop-station updater not working 🤷
Well I totally am happy I watched your video I actually got the mark 1 last January from my husband for Christmas. I could never spent that on myself and so I was thrilled because I have wanted one for many years So I used it with my own way and I know I haven’t utilized all the features but one thing that I always use is the input knob That alone is a deal breaker for me I was feeling bad that less than a year later they do an update but after watching your video I realize that I am just happy to have the one I always wanted !!! So glad I'm the kind of person who never upgrades on release. I prefer to let everyone else put up with the bugs. I'll stick with my MK1 for some time yet.
for the step rate thing, i like that they added advanced settings to it to allow you to better personalize your effects. BUT i do agree with Brez here, in that its not user friendly at all unless youve been doing audio engineering for a while. i think that they (in a future update) should add in a basic step rate option, that you can toggle to override the advanced option. that way the people who loop MK1 can still do their tracks and add on, and by extention new loopers can actually learn wtf theyre doing. but also now that you have that toggle, the people who will nerd out over every little detail (i sort of fall into this category myself) have that option as well to do so.
I was planning to buy the mkll during christmas but seeing alot of these faults may make me hold off until the future, this does give me more respect to the kbb participants who had to figure out the machine and use it so well
wow let's Go 🔥🔥❤ the device has some problems in effect and in the beginning when you need to update it some people had to disconnected it from electricity but it's normal in the few days ,months it will be better and better with updates ❤🔥
I've had my mk1 for like a week now and I'm just coming to the conclusions myself that I need to use the input level knob to control to my mix quickly. I'm glad for the confirmation that you do this too.
thanks , i was about to sell my mk 1 & my RC 202 , which is a spare, but really i don't use a lot of the effects that much as I'm a multi instrumentalist & i don't think I'll be doing all kind of fiddling around. I'm a live musician & i use the RC 505 as a backing track, saves having a drum machine & i create my tracks on my Kronos, to save carrying that heavy beast on gigs. So what benefit is the mark 2 for me ? ? I did a one time miudi the 505 & the 202 , I think I'm going to try that again.that gives mr 7 tracks & 2 stereo inputs YEAH YEAH Excuse my long comment , I found this video very valuable, saved me some money too, which i'd lose selling old gear to buy a new one. You're a gifted musician & you will get over this glitch. thanks again , you helped a fellow musician.
Unfortunatly it still needs alot of updates. Would be better if they just waited for everything to be developed properly. Its an issue with more brands these days. Money making is more important..
Thank you for the video. The lack of immediate access to mic level is the dumbest thing you can do. ANYONE who uses these units will want to be able to adjust that on the fly. It's pretty obvious the person who made that decision was not a user of the device for looping. I won't be buying one for this reason alone.
Oh boi, im looking forward to this video. My issue(s) is/are: i cant even update the mk-ii. The version ist still 1.02 and if i try to update it to 1.04 it says „no-file“ on the updating screen. Some fx works differently, for example the roll effect doesnt work how it used to be on the mk 1 and i have the feeling that many fx‘s have some bug issues 🤔 Im not really happy with the mk 2 yet, but we‘ll see

the thing about the mk2 step rate is that u have to set EACH AND EVERY STEP BY YOURSELF. i’ve tried it and yes it works and it’s flexible, BUT ITS SOOOO TEDIOUSSSS

I've checked various on line shops ... NADA... At least you've got your mk 1... I am instead going to buy the Akai Force...which suits better the kind of music I want to produce... I had some issues with filter on track "MY JOY", since it was made on MK1. I've found solution in 2 hours how to replicate pattern to 95% identical on MK2. ROBOT? never used it, maybe it is cool on MK1, but on MK2 you have OSC BOT and VOCODER, since the concept of ROBOT is basically "vocoder" and you have more FX slots and BANKS, you can achive same texture to ROBOT. Input KNOB? Just press ENTER on homescreen and viola your mic controll there. Even better because you can see values of the MIC input. As user with shitload of devices, i can say if you work hard you will adapt to the new worflow in 2-4 weeks. In first week my arm was just trying to find some knobs which was only on MK1, second week i was thinking where i need to place my fingers, 4th week i forgot how to use MK1. I think you uploaded this video too fast. It is just matter of muscle memory, and imagination whet it come to FX. Try it more, maybe you will change your mind, because different approach will give different outcome.
Thank you man ! Much appreciated and motivates me a lot. I'm a bit frustrated because they are releasing it and it's still not perfect. Mine crashed a few times already, even with 1.4 update. I've had some error messages a few times. I feel like they released you guys had for KBB. I'm also a bit frustrated that they worked mainly with Beardyman and his team rather than concentrate on loopers like GBB loopers who are a bit more in current trends in the use of the machine. I love Beardyman, of course, I'm talking about BOSS, not the loopers involved in the process. I wish that we had a word to say earlier in the development process. However, your words really motivate me. I must say, I haven't looped at all since a few days, I just can't with this machine...
@@BreZBeatboxsorry, but you are not knowing the story. Beardyman by himself was making calls with all top mk1 loopers during 2019. Even at GBB 19 we were at his backstage private room, brainstorming ideas, there was around 5-6 people, and he recorded maybe 1 hour of our conversation so he can listen it later. He understand that he is not primary user of just one loopstation. And I respect him for that. Especially because I think maybe he was under NDA (of course he mentioned nothing, he just ask to record ideas). This is only one small part of the full story. I can say that I had a chance to place some features into wishlist in 2019, maybe 5% is there now. At least we have vocoder and some kind RGB color coding, and I'm happy with that. So please do more detailed research. Watch how many people demotivated in the comments, especially who is not even received the unit yet. This is not healthy. This is not the first time I feel so much salt during your reviews of MK2 combined with not enough research about the topic.
@@INKIE_MUSIC Hey, just to clear up, I met up with Beardyman in february 2020 and we talked about the next loopstation. We then exchanged for a period by mail and I also asked for certain new features on the machine, like the Autotune for example. ;)
@@BreZBeatbox turning out that he worked with “one device loopers”, and even with you. Beardyman was the bridge between loopers and BOSS. So I don’t understand your point now.
I would just try to circuit bend it and add a mic input level pot. there might be some space on the area it used to be. Imho a MKII should have all the MKI has, plus new stuff, overhauls, better user friendlyness. NEVER minus old stuff. If you take away stuff, then change the model name or release another "edition" like mini/stage/composer/whatever, but NOT a Mark 2, which stands for the SAME thing, but 2nd, improved and revised batch. A MKII also has to be 100% downwards compatible with a MKI in all cases, so if there is memory exchange on whatever MKI it should sound the same, if transfered to MKII (plus more modifications if wanted).
Yeah this is crazy. Especially for a *live* looping machine, you can't make changes that make tasks take longer. Like for the step rate, I think the developers were probably thinking "you can achieve the same sounds on the mkii that you could on the original" but that's not good enough. Everything is time-sensitive
For your problem with the roll effect: you have to press the button after you make the sound and you do it according to the timing value you set. So if it's set to 8th notes you'll say "ts" on beat 1 and press the button on the one and. Hope that helps.
Got my MK2 today and tried to find a solution to the mic gain issue. One thing that worked really well was to do an ASSIGN of the TR FX KNOB to MIC 1 LEVEL. This gives a really fast way to adjust the mic gain but you loose the TR FX KNOB function. A longer term solution is for BOSS to modify the way the knobs work in the mixer. I don't know why they require turning the knob 100 times to reduce the level to zero. A 180 degree sweep of the knob should cover the entire range. For finer resolution you could push the knob in. This would be an easy mod for BOSS to do.
Btw it’s usual with Roland stuff… it took some years until fw update on mk1 put some “must have” options and bug ironning. Said that take loopy pro also as same “mindset” but almost you pay for “one year fixes” and keep the app. Then you could pay a “year upgrade” without lossing what you get for the initial price. Mixed getthegoodsnotrealsubscription model which seems fair to me. Big hug mate!
I seen on IG that Matej also had an issue where he spent 3 hours on a track and the machine froze or went into some sort of error mode and he had to switch it off.
I'm in a dilemma. I want to invest in a loop station. Should I purchase the MK1 or wait for the MK2 early next year? I'm a total novice, but, I want to give this a go as I like challenging myself.
I'd wait it out honestly. Mk2 is a the next gen. Mk1 is 16bit audio also. If you do want a mk1 I am sure some are going to pop up cheaper as well soon.

For Christmas, I’m actually getting the mkI because already that is almost too expensive. And getting the new one will 1000$ more expensive. This video helps me feel good about that choice.

@@Arterium Apparantly it is not. Boss got back to me and said, if its possible it will be in the user manual. Which isn't very helpful, and I didn't see it in the user manual. Could just connect outputs of mk1 or mk2 to the Inputs of the other. Which is what I am considering, if I get the mk2.

Thanks for truly displaying what features aren't working for you. Some people have simply just said "it doesn't work!" but then don't take the time to show what isn't working for them. I heard that the time-syncing aspects are also a little different, and that you always have to have a count-in, which would be more annoying for guitarists and other foot switchers. Though, maybe these people just haven't found the proper setting? Also in regards to your songs that you can't play on the mk2, you may just need to record the affected audio you want from the mk1 as a .wav or something, and then upload it into the mk2 as a user sample loop. I know it isn't the exact same because you lose some of the live element, but maybe you could find another part or effect to use in conjunction with it, so that you have even more going on, or just relax and realize that an audience generally doesn't understand nor care how much "real work" you are putting in in an electronic live set. People pay tons of money every year to see people play tracked music off their laptop.

I fixed the problem of not having a dedicated gain knob for mics by adding a little yamaha mg06x mixer, but yeah, I don’t get why they didn’t add it. There’s a free space for it on the left side for 2 knobs.

if it looks like a toy...is a toy...I did spend lots of money on loops machines from Boss....always regret it...I thought that after 20 years they would learn to respect our money...but the artists are still the last on the line...I give hopes up 13 years ago, anyway, the show will go on.

This is fecking foolery what Roland are providing! Factory reset did not solve the problem! Please spread the info! It is totally manual for pitches like in the MK1 there are note numbers pre pitched but with that step rate it will be impossible to find the note number
I don't have an mkii I'm just throwing theories around and I'm sure you've tried this, but regarding the filter steprate thing: My guess would be on the original it alternates applying and removing the effect at the rate you choose. So my guess for the mkii is choose the step rate, then for each knob alternate 100 then 0

First off let me say this I am very inspired by your talent with the rc 505 mk2 and I am contemplating buying one in a few days your videos I am watching for reference to quality and I was sold until I heard this video and I am still watching rn the part i am at you are spraking on the importance of the microphone input knob I say why aren't you using a pre mixer before the rc 505 mk2 input instead of plugging the xlr directly in as you have it that way you can control and monitor the gain on the input easier on the mk2?

I'm more curious because I've been beatboxing since 2016 but I never use rc-505. So I still think for a newer looper like me MKII will be more worth it than previous generation of loopers.

You can actually easily access the mixer and instantly control the volume of your inputs just pushing ENTER on the home screen. You can leave it on the mixer section and the knobs will become controls on the four channels. Take it easy!
Nope. Doesn't work for me. You can't turn it down in 0,1s, which is the time needed for feedback to arrive while using certain effect. You also can't do NME's or Tioneb or Saro's technique where they play with the input knob
They should have added more effects or tabs but should have kept the flowchart same for both the devices like same user interface for example apple phones have same protocol inside so kind of that should be done if possible
I think the fact that this is on pre-order and the price of MKI still hasn't dropped means something... I remember months before TR-8s came the original TR-8 dropped a couple hundred bucks in price...

It is a great video, you just opened my eyes cause I was going to buy the mk2 but now I see that I should wait a little. I have one question. You said that it needs an update, so it can be somewhat updated like an android app? I am not sure if I understand correctly.
I agree that losing the volume control is not great. How about using a mic with a volume control such as a harmonica mic. Some examples are: Blowsmeaway - Ultimate Series Audix - Fireball V Would this work for your songs?
There is only one reason. The mk1 was originally designed with the instrument jam and the harmonic a cappella. In fact beatboxers enable mk1 to fulfill its bbox potential. but now, the design ideas of mk2 engineers still stay in one generation, that is to say, the service instrument jam and harmony acapella are mainly used, plus bbox. So this happened This problem wouldn't have happened if mk2 should have had more reputable beatboxers consultants. And now we can only wait for the software update.
