Playing bossa nova on guitar is what inspired me to make this little documentary. I dug deep into the history to piece it together because I really wanted to know. But I was so excited that I forgot to do one thing: Pronounce the some of the names correctly! Some of my Portuguese is off and I apologize. Maybe one day soon I will make a Part 2 that covers more areas of bossa nova and where I will also correct my bad pronunciations. Thanks for watching and for all your comments!
My mind is often turbulent and twitchy and I found Bossa Nova to calm me down and to pull the right strings in my head. It's literally medicine to my soul. Thank you so much for this well done video! :)
Ultimately I lay back in my home or on the terrace here in rural Sumatra and listen to Bossa Nova, picturing 1950-60-70s coastal Brazil. Just the good life. It does soothe and set me back in a vibe I mean to be in. Hard to describe it all, but it's the life.
Wow, thanks so much. I am studying and performing this style of Brazilian music in my Bachelor of Contemporary Music degree at the Australian Institute of Music in Sydney. You have given me some valuable information and understanding.
This is an amazing video Phillip, Rob directed me to your channel and I look forward to your next video. Brazil is one of my favorite places in the world. Christ the Redeemer is my favorite monument next to Machu Picchu in Peru.
The world has to be grateful to Brazilian musicians (like Gilberto, Jobim, Bonfa etc) for Bossa Nova music which I had listened to since 1960. The rhythm of bossa nova is bouncy yet soothing. My favourite Brazilian songs are: Manha de Carnaval fro the play Black Orpheus, Meditation, Corcovado, One Note Samba etc. I find bossa nova music very soothing.
loved your video!! i am just getting into bossa nova. id like to sing bossa nova one day for a crowd of 6. until then, my shower will do. much love to you
Thank you, Im incredibly interested in the music that came right after this in the Tropicala movement during the 60s. Trying to work backwards and map the history of music in Brazil. Need more videos like this lol
Yes, Bossa Nova is definitely a beautiful music genre, and that's why it has successfully influenced various music styles worldwide. I mean, who wouldn't love Bossa Nova and its musical legends?😍
Nice video :) I would recommend you the works of Jorge bem Jor he's my favorite when it comes to Bossa nova, although he would eventually move to much more experimental music (check out his song "Charles Anjo 45" to see what I mean), his first album is a Bossa nova classic.

Yes! He was a progenitor of the bossa nova style. I focused on the late 50s and didn't know anything about his work in the early 50s at the time that I made it. I'd like to make a prequel/sequel to this documentary and include him and fix the bad pronunciations I made of some of the names. And maybe add a few more people that popularized the genre.
@@madz3389 I am definitely going to dig deeper into the roots of the genre now. Starting with Johnny Alf and include names like Alaide Costa, whom I wasn't aware of. And if I go further into the 60's and 70's I'll include Jorge Ben. Thank you!
I found this lovely song that was made with the influence of a frog croaking. It's called Frog Jazz and came from TikTik. Now what I dislike about Frog Jazz is that it is not Jazz. It's obviously Bossa Nova. Shure Bossa Nova was influenced by Jazz but still it's its own genre of music.
