Most vintage groove bkxes come with a selection of Latin rhythms. The one built into my 1978 GEM F30 Electric Organ is no exception. So, I decided to put my own spin on it.
Instruments and sounds used:
Organ and rhythm: 1978 GEM F30 ("Ken the Gem") mic'd with an SM57
Other keys: Rhodes Mark I Seventy Three
Guitar: 60s Besson classical guitar mic'd with an AKG414
Double bass mic'd XY with 2 condensors
Drums: Past to future drums, Linn drums, Optigan drums
FX: IK Multimedia SampleTron, Optigan, Gforce Software Mellotron
Sequencer: Cubase
FX: Waves, Goodhertz, T-racks

If you think I'm not going to sample the rhythm from the beginning into my Nord for the sole purpose of annoying my band mates with bossa Nova jam sessions, you'd be wrong.

What are your musical influences as a child and nowadays? Bytheway: Sounds great. It's time for a record deal and a collaboration, don't you think too!? 😉
@AlexBallMusic
@AlexBallMusic 6 лет назад
Blimey, so many things. Was hugely into Queen as a kid and then all usual things 90s kids with guitars were into - Nirvana, Green Day, Metallica. Was also a big Crash Test Dummies fan. Nowadays I'm into so many things I couldn't begin to write it down. Probably evident from the way my music lurches around on my channel. Record deal - ha, well I think those days are long gone. I work with the major record labels and publishers on a daily basis funnily enough, so I'm certain they'd have no use for what I do. But thankfully it's 2018 and I can do my own thing online :) What were/are you into musically?
@michellew.3691
@michellew.3691 6 лет назад
Alex Ball Interesting! Nice to get to know your musical background! A broud music taste opens up many doors to tap into 😉 As a kid I grew up with The Sweet, Michael Jackson, Human League, Depeche Mode. After that era I discovered the art of songwriting like the masters Max Martin, Shellback, Lamont Dozier, Brian Holland & Co. Guitar vise I like Cream, Nirvana, Marylin Manson, Limp Bizkit and Korn very much. Do you know the movie soundtrack of 'blow'? It's fantastic! I also very into the sound & lyrics of motown! The funk brothers did a milestone in music history! Nowadays I like Sigma, Air, Survive & Calvin Harris ... Bytheway: My favorite Queen song is Radio Gaga. Gets me goosebumps everytime I hear it!

I love the singing rhythm disk near the end, is it from a real optigan or a sample pack?
@AlexBallMusic
@AlexBallMusic 6 лет назад
+Orangeflipflop It's from the sample pack from Optigan dot com. Don't know if you've ever seen the story, but Pea Hicks tracked down the original guys at Optigan and they still had the master tapes that were used to produce the Optigan discs. He digitized them. So you can buy much higher quality (and extended) versions of the famous loops. Quite incredible.

@@AlexBallMusic Might I also say that this composition would definitely not sound out of place in a Jean Jacques Perrey album? It's in the same kind of happily light synthesque sound he made famous, with a little bit of cheeky lunacy.
@AlexBallMusic
@AlexBallMusic 5 лет назад
Was definitely going for Perrey and Kingsley vibe. Might have to do another one of these with a different rhythm.

I absolutely adore your music, and I’d enjoy it way more if you didn’t put so much wow on it, it sounds almost like a scale change. Old records and tapes don’t sound like that unless the machine is seriously malfunctioning.
