@@dcdno_one2393 CC Awesome I wholeheartedly concur. Unless this guy has dug 20-foot-deep chambers in his studio, with the $390,000+ speakers down in there, completely not touching any part of the structure of the studio, I’d say this isn’t exactly adding to the original. Bob Ludwig is unsurpassed as a mastering engineer. And honestly, even though he’s known for mixing, Bob Clearmountain is a great mastering engineer. This art takes many years to perfect.
I remember just how ridiculously excited I was upon hearing that Boston was FINALLY releasing a new album. I was born in 1971, so I was a bit too young to get caught up in the Boston fever that onset in 1976. But I listened to their eponymous debut and Don’t Look Back religiously, and as soon as Third Stage hit, I bought the cassette, and played it until the tape snapped. Then I bought it again, and played it until CDs became the norm. Third Stage was one of the best birthday presents ever! It came out on September 23rd, 1986, my 15th birthday. And it was love at first listen. That cassette stayed in my AIWA portable player for a good three months solid, just auto reversing. I’d fall asleep listening to it, and wake up three hours later, awaking to Brad singing “Cool the Engines”. Tom Scholz is a musical genius. He created such a wonderful sonic tapestry for Brad’s legendary voice to sing to. Third Stage is, IMO, every bit as good as the debut. The band wasn’t rushed, and all those years of fine tuning, while their legal battle dragged on, showed. Thank you so much for this upload. The remaster sounds fantastic.
Mt first concert was seeing Boston... supporting this album. I had just turned 15, and BEGGED my mom to allow me to go see them. What a night. July 31st, 1987. Tacoma Dome in Washington state. I've seen them 5 MORE times since then. Best band ever.
This album has become my absolute Boston favorite, especially since I sang and played Amanda on a street busking session last summer vacation together with my son. But this remaster absolutely does the album justice: clean and wide for the guitars, and the room for Brad Delp's beautiful vocals. Hope he smiled down on us when I paid my humble tribute to him a few weeks ago.
This track is absolutely fantastic, a great love song sang beautifully by Brad Delp .A great vocalist the voice of Boston in my opinion, sadly missed RIP 🙏 🪦 😌 ☹️.
Such a beautiful song. A great remaster Coldfrixion! Thank you! It's sad that drummer Jim Masdea had to use electronic drum samples, on this whole album. YUK! Maybe some can't tell. But to many, it ruined the album. (Like me). TOM should put REAL drums on all of his albums after "Don't look back" (2nd album) Just imagine what this would sound like with REAL drums!!! These are not
jrock2264I'm in a indie band, Glitter Dogs. 70's style melodic rock. Trying to build a base with people who like the style of music. If you check it out and like it, please post and pass it on. Thanks!
This was the last REAL Boston song. It was recorded 4 years before the album came out, I think. Other stuff on Third Stage is o.k., but this the last song that truly sounded like the "old" Boston.
I was always a bit underwhelmed by this album. But numerous plays and listens over the years i actually rate it as a great album. Such a shame their output is so little. Tom needs to get his finger out and on his guitar 😊
