As a kid i think the fact that not so many threes were taken made it so much more exciting, just like when volleyball used side out scoring, the threes when one were shot it was to tie up or break opponents spirit when they were gainning momentum. Games relies much more on running play while today‘s offense is more improvising and more ball movement, offense is better now but lack of defense makes it boring
We're not alone - what I read, the ratings seem to plummet pretty badly. Many of today's players would be a lot more useful to society as firemen and plumbers. And who said it? ;-) Today's sissies wouldn't get a foot on the ground against those plumbers and firemen.
@@nettlarry I'm 65, and today's players are FAR FAR better, and today's game is far better. More space, more movement, better shooting, and YES you can play D, and if you watching these playoffs you would know that. The old days were great, but nothing like today's players.
@@goldnarms435When you are allowed to travel, palm, carry, double dribble and can't touch anyone without a foul. It's horrible . Not to mention all they do is shoot 3s and flop everywhere. It's horrible basketball.
@@dwight8090 Can't touch anyone?? You are just repeating tropes. Whenever someone uses that argument, it tells me it's some dude who doesn't even watch the game. They have been flopping since the 1960s. Frank Ramsey was called the "Master of Deception" by Frank Deford back in 1963 due to his "suckering" and "flopping". You are just repeating things people are telling you. Watch the games sir.
@@Rico-ow3ys How so, Rico? While I understand that it's a different era, the culture of the game has gone into a direction that starkly contrasts from that of this particular era. And I'm obviously not seeing that transition. Just wanted to hear your point of view. Thanks.
@@Seemsayin First off, yes I know it's a different league, era , etc. but back then , the league didn't protect superstars the way they do now, so top player's had to fight through teams coming after them, wasn't that many one and done players coming into the league, so you had better prepared players across the board , no load management, cheap flagrant fouls etc. That's my point. Your serve.
@@Rico-ow3ys My serve? This isn't an argument. I look at it one way, and you look at it another. Just wanted to know what you thought. Thanks for replying. That's it. Peace.
Because it’s not a “ Sexy “ shot, they rather take bad threes from twenty five feet out with plenty of time on the shot clock then take a higher percentage shot near the basket.
I'm almost 72 and recognize by name almost everyone. Doesn't get any better when Bubba Smith snaps the log into for firewood. 1 of the best commercials ever 😁
The 70's & 80's were both cool, very cool. Police were much less uptight or liable to shoot people an we also had much much less mass shootings. The Leave It To Beaver mindset had finally started to leave the masses but not totally. It still exists to this day just not as much as it use to. Personal style became popular, started in the 60's but continued through the 70's & 80's. Men didn't have to have short hair or dress like a square anymore. All that stuff is commonplace today but it didn't use to be. We're evolving very fast now days.
I was 12 years old when this Game 7 happened. I remembered watching it live. Great game! People today simply have no idea what a great player Larry Bird was.
Only 15000 views really best basketball finals I've ever seen 87 finals being the best ever Boston Dallas this year boring you can feel the intensity of these Celtic laker finals bird would destroy today's NBA oh wait a minute I better ask JJ Reddick or big dummy perk Steven as h,,e smith lol
What a game. The CBS intros -- complete with the uplifting theme music -- were always well-produced setups that only added to the excitement. As a kid, I loathed the Celtics and agonized over this loss. Today, however, in watching this game, nothing but respect for all the players on the court -- except, of course, ML Carr. LOL This is everything good basketball should be.
This might have been the sweetest of the 17 so far (although the 1969 championship against the Lakers was also very sweet). Nothing was better than the Celtics and the Lakers in the finals.
I think the 69 finals were so much sweeter of a victory, beating the Lakers at the forum in game 7, when everyone counted the Celtics out as old and dead, nothing can top that. imo.
Agreed 100%. Crap NBA and flag NFL now. What a shame. That’s why you can’t compare real players before and soft ass over tattoos. Over paid baby’s now and day. They cry for everything. I don’t get paid enough. That’s why are youth is lost looking at these roll models acting like kids.
The infamous NBA ref, Jake O'Donnell. This ref had a major grudge with Clyde Drexler and the Portland Trail Blazers. He lost his job when he refused to shake hands with Clyde prior to the start of a 90's playoff game. Play-by-play announcer in this video is "Burnt Hamburger", another piece of work.
This is how the game should be played, because they have totally effed it up now, everything, fundamentals shooting the correct way, dribbling boxing out, hell even defense is really horrible now,in this game was forty years ago.
Maybe the best, most intense series ever. The defense, rebounding, everything contested. James Worthy may be the quickest dude to the hoop I've seen. Bird could have taken one thing from the modern game. He probably could have taken more 3s. The Lakers were packing in their D so mush because the Celtics were bound and determined to score in the paint. Some Bird 3s would've loosened up their D some. But hey that's how the game was played then. The post up game is nearly a thing of the past now. Along with it the great post players like Kareem, McHale, Moses, Hakeem, etc, A lost art indeed.
I was NBA obsessed from 1974 until about 2003… now it makes me nauseous to watch it.. 2 things happened in 2003-2004 that began my disdain…. no hand check rule and a certain prima donna began his career…
As I bask in #18 glory....no doubt that the NBA will never be better, never be more exciting, or tough, or full of real grown ass men who didn't come to the arena to play grab ass....they came to beat on each other.
LOL @ 2:40:41 - A dude climbs up to the basket, and another dude climbs up... Ahhh the good old days. They would never let anyone do that today. So I hope everyone enjoyed themselves...
It's crazy how things have changed the Larry O'Brien trophy presented in the locker room for to how much liberty the fans had, that was awesome now you pay more money and get treated like a jerk.
I remember watching this with my roomie back in the day. 25 years later he assaulted a guy trying to invade his home. Then he took the guy to a lake and chopped off his head. Now my ex- roomie is in prison for life. But back then what mattered was only the Celtics & Lakers....
Lakers led series 2-1 and it turned in Game #4 when McHale clotheslined Rambis. LA had won previous game 137-104 - at the time the most lopsided Finals game ever. Lakers lost their poise after this obvious flagrant foul - which would warrant an ejection & suspension now (see Green's foul on LeBron in 2016) - and neither was assessed - and subsequently the series because of this BS
Well, today's game is overall superior. It is faster, bigger, more athletics, and more skilled, and better conditioned. The spacing was horrendous on multiple offensive positions. There is only one aspect of this game that would withstand the test of time; Kareem's sky hook.I mean no disrespect to the absolute legends on the floor on this game - they were the masters at their time, but evolution is inevitable. As a entertainment product, this was okay, but I'd rather see today's game. In this vein, the most entertaining basketball, I've seen is the D'Antoni & Nash Suns. As for the game itself, the same old story: Rebounding and best performing supporting cast wins, The Celtic free throw parade did the Lakers in.
Regarding game 4 ; K. McHales clothes line, cheap shot on K.Rambis. Gee, James Worthy instead of knocking your teammate down again; with your lighting quickness. J. Worthy rush the goon K. McHale with K. Rambis & rat pack the giant, punk a-- b-----!!
I've got more Bull Shit too. The NBA should have cancelled this game in Beantown (91° in the Boston Garden) Flew both teams overnight to Los Angeles. & played game 7 in the LA Forum.
