This is one of the few early examples of this band live during their first year of their first tour. Between this and the show in Cleveland, they both represent the way Boston sounded during that time.
I DONT OWN ANY OF THIS. THIS IS FOR ENTERTAINMENT.

Boston is a testament to the hypocrisy of the RnR HoF. Journey? Def Leppard? Bin Jovi? All great bands that were influenced by Boston and Foreigner which are both being blackballed. The innovations in recording and great body of work from both of them are undeniable. In my heart, the RnR HoF won't be legit until they're recognized

They didn't have the technology that most live band's use today...I mean the drums had to be tuned and all they used were mics(SR 57s&58s mostly),placement was everything...Tom had his own homemade gadgets but besides a wahh pedal it was pretty dry....the band had to be tight and the soundman had to be on his game...these guys were the real deal

You're probably totally right about Sib's gloves. I have a Boston program book from the 1979 Don't Look Back tour which so happens to have been signed by Sib back then. In the book there are various concert pictures showing Sib wearing black drummer gloves in nearly every picture I saw of him. Not only R.I.P. to an amazing drummer that Sib was, but R.I.P. to the Spectrum Arena, as well. @@machineryman7197 It’s been a while since we chatted. I sure appreciate your uploads and accompanying knowledge that you share! Lately, when I have the time, I’ll binge watch/listen to these Boston concerts. In High School 1976-77, I wore out my 8-Track listening to the first album in my 1967 Ford Mustang with a 289 engine and a hopped up sound system. Their music is the best! I read recently someone ask “do you think that maybe the production on the first album was so tight (apart from some off rhythm hand claps) that it lacked a human authenticity”. Would like to read your thoughts on this question.
@machineryman7197
@machineryman7197 3 года назад
@@SportsKnowItAll11 Thanks a lot! Personally I like a clean and tight production just as much as a raw and punchy one. I don't think it lacks human authenticity at all. I think music starts to lack authenticity when the post-processing changes the sound. In the case of the first record, the sound wasn't changed, rather it was enhanced.

Chuck Lee Funny enough. They actually replaced shattered images with party in 1978, but then started doing both songs later in the year.

@@machineryman7197 Although the Spectrum was referenced in the movie, the fight from the first Rocky movie was actually filmed at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles. Tom definitely thrived in the studio, using his MIT-honed tech skills and creating some of the best, hard & melodic rock of all time. This is a little too Grateful Dead-ish improvisational and rambling. Yeah, it was the 70s and band's did that (on vinyl as well as in concert), and as a kid back then who listened to Boston's debut endlessly, I would have been disappointed by the sound...or I would have been star struck (I was eleven in '76).

The Spectrum had rather poor acoustics. Lots of echo. It was a hockey/ basketball arena after all. But the sound for this concert was good. And very loud. Foghat followed them. Also loud. When I bought my ticket (which was early on,) it was to see Foghat (Boston wasn't even on the ticket yet) but we were so glad we did because when Boston hit during the summer the tickets would have been impossible to get.
