How I got here, I got my hands on an original pressing playing through a kenwood 1500 with a brand audio technica cart. The record sounds SOOO different compared to the versions of the songs I've heard on spotify or the radio. So different in fact the songs sound alien by comparison. Some of my own observations, the female back up vocals are much more pronounced on the record. Delp doesnt sound nearly as high pitched on the record as the modern day track. There are long hold notes on the guitar as delp begins singing again after the solo in peace of mind I believe it was. I noticed some different notes coming off the organ. Maybe some of these sounds were lost in digital compression or mixed out in remasters but very wild to hear the music the way it was heard in the 70s.
I really dig that you focus on the differences between the two pressings, and not your personal preference. Thanks for the great video. I’ll now probably get the 2020 release for the balanced sound. As a working class hero, I got the Fluance RT82. Presently, I couldn’t afford the RT85, but plan to upgrade the cart, and platter over the next two years. Thanks again for the great informative video brother, peace.
Never under estimate the impact of decades of dirt, the sound fundamentally changes. I thought some of my A1 originals bought from new sounded poor. Had them deep cleaned and the sound change was unbelievable, it was really as if a veil had been lifted
Take into account of the equipment, components. Are you using vintage components, 70's- 80's , or the newer components thet may be more desirable with digital recordings , masters and mixes My copy of "Boston" : ( dead wax matrix, 34188-IH, AZ ( Allen Zants, I do believe), as opposed to the Wally , Capital
