An American woman died on Monday after a shark bit her near a popular tourist spot in the Bahamas. This comes after several other shark incidents in the region in recent months. CBS News' Errol Barnett reports.

jaws was hungry lol, my first question would be, who goes that far from the beach. you're asking for trouble if you away from shore, but people like to go way out. shark attacks are rare, but they can happen. noise and certain sound attract them, and there more curious than anything.

How tragic. I'm sorry for the family. I used to surf. I ran across one of these majestic beasts once. Fortunately it didn't attack me. However, the animal did convince me to quit surfing and building a pool. I haven't ever looked back.

It had to be a bull or tiger. Bahamas is notorious for those two sharks and the attacks. I wouldn't stick a toe in that ocean. Regardless R.i.p to the woman who lost her life 🙏

I'm truly sorry this has happened to this woman and all who knew and loved her...humans need to make smarter choices and take the time to understand the other inhabitants of our planet...it is not ours alone.

The sharks might be starving, look at poor Popov attack, the shark was caught and opened up, apart from some human remains there was nothing in its stomach, the shark had pups growing inside and was starving because of overfishing in the red sea. Overfishing is a worldwide problem so many sharks most be so starved they will try to eat any food source they come across. I have stopped swimming in the sea, it's just not worth the risk.

i feel for her family and her husband but don't blame the Shark! we may be the top cheese on land but when it comes to the oceans the Sharks are the macaroni and people enter the Ocean and aren't careful then these awesome animals are going to mistake you for a food source. it is crucial to keep as close to the shore as you can when your on paddle boards or swimming and look for signs around you and in the water.

Im sorry this happened, and send my condolences to her fam. That said... I grew up in and around the ocean, and learned very early not to go out far unless you are in a boat. We are food for them, and yes, attacks are rare, but they WILL check us out if we're in their territory. I just hope the shark wasn't killed for this.

Paddle boarding is dumb, especially a mile off shore. She might have looked like a seal swimming along the surface of the water, to the shark.

People say,"the chance of getting bit by a shark is highly unlikely, it's a very rare occurence," and I'm like, "Yeah, but the moment I get into the open ocean, those odds go WAY UP!" Lol. If they are willing to the chance of a shark attack and get in the ocean, they can do so. As for me though, not so much.

I already been attacked by a shark 2 miles offshore while kayak fishing...he never came back for me (after kayak was flipped over )....maybe thanks to the 20 lbs fish I caught and went down with my rods...I will never know but I can tell I though I was gonna die that day....

Over the past few years there have been a bunch of deaths by sharks in the Bahamas. Usually around the same area. Dangerous mix of tigers and bulls.

The problem with those statistics is they are not from people that are out doing adventure or sports activities they are from beach goers and vacationers in mass in vacation areas that are protected and watched. The fact is there are many hostile shark species and they are in the places that have the least vacationers. I feel betrayed as a human from special groups or researchers that boast the stats to not blame the shark for it is where the blame should go and the promoters of these predators. If we were allowed to harvest the sharks to bring down that threat I feel it would make us all safer yet we slaughter Cows for food which is no threat to man maybe AOC but that is all. When shark meat is very good and plentiful however regulations prevent the fishing of these predator's increasing the deadly frenzy sharks perform.

This comment is hilariously ignorant. Most shark species actually secrete urea throughout their body, making the meat unpalatable to humans, and actually the Chinese and their agents are already doing a great job killing millions of sharks every year for their fins which is ecological suicide when you remove the top predator from a food chain. Read more and educate yourself.
