As a musician, singing and playing a song are usually the easy parts. The hard part, and where many fail, is capturing the heart and essence of the song. You did it. And, I think Joni would be proud.
Played this version a hundred times and even sang along with, but i still get sentimental each i time do it... this is the best version of this Joni Mitchell's hit...
This song written by Joni Mitchell and made famous by Judy Collins covering it in 1968 was a huge hit and success for Judy Collins. I usually don't like to listen to most people covering such a famous song (and prefer lesson known songs when people cover them) but you have really done a great, great job with this song. I mean it's been covered by so many people that after awhile you don't want to hear it covered anymore I guess is the problem. But.....I thought, well just go ahead and listen to your cover and I am glad I did. Your voice is very good and so is your guitar accompaniment. A + for you on this song.
Though I would have liked to hear the typical Joni tuning for this song, I LOVE this rendition, the voice, the timing is awesome., the interpretation is really beautiful.,
Wow, this is THE MOST beautiful and heartfelt version of this song that I have ever heard. Just a man and his guitar - nothing else needed: perfection. Thank you so much! From a fan in Australia :-)
This is fantastic.. It’s not often I take the time out to write what I think, but this deserves the time out. A cover of all covers of this masterpiece.
I often ask myself how the heck does one write lyrics like this. Just a alchemy of words that turns a song to pure gold. Greetings from Italy. Rome december 2019. Ps. Great rendition.
Rows and flows of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons everywhere I've looked at clouds that way But now they only block the sun They rain and snow on everyone So many things I would have done But clouds got in my way I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down and still somehow It's cloud's illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all Moons and Junes and ferries wheels The dizzy dancing way you feel As every fairy tale comes real I've looked at love that way But now it's just another show You leave 'em laughing when you go And if you care, don't let them know Don't give yourself away I've looked at love from both sides now From give and take and still somehow It's love's illusions I recall I really don't know love at all Tears and fears and feeling proud, To say "I love you" right out loud Dreams and schemes and circus crowds I've looked at life that way But now old friends they're acting strange They shake their heads, they say I've changed Well something's lost, but something's gained In living every day. I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all I've looked at life from both sides now From up and down, and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all
I just came across this rendition from You Tube suggested videos. I've listened to many versions of it over the years, Joni's hundreds of times. This VONCKEN version, the singing and playing are for sure beautiful, however the lyric changes are distracting in a way. When he sang ferries wheels instead of Ferris wheels, I thought it was very strange. Even stranger is when someone posts the wrong lyrics, so I googled the lyrics and read along as he sang. I just think when a song is written so beautifully the correct words are very important.
Oh give him a break! Americans know what Ferris wheels are because we have tons of them. He is not an American is he? Do they even have them where he lives? Honest mistake.
I love the way he gave emotion to the song and every lyrics of it. You can feel the dilemma the song was trying to portray. The voice is superb. All in all is amazing. Kudos!!!
Thank you for the nice feeling I get from listening. The song is right, so many illusions in this world, we are either away or near completenes, either away or near love, the only thing that is real is our inner feeling connected to that which is divine, joy, calm, complete, peace. All the drama is unnecessary.
Just beautiful. Arrangement, tempo, and your amazing voice. I’ve allowed my new guitar to gather dust in fear- you have burst that bubble. Forever in gratitude to you and your rendition. Magic 🙏🏼❤️
I think you just single handedly restored my faith in the world! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 That was beautiful, fabulous, wow!! What a pleasure! Thank you for sharing 👏👏 Mandy

Stunning, beautiful song, beautiful voice, beautiful man - how come I'm only learning of you now - can't wait to see your other songs - cheers from Canada
This cover would deserve a LOT more views. It’s one of the best renditions of this song I’ve ever heard. Very clear harmonies and singing. Every note, every chord, every word are just put in the right way.
When Joni wrote this song as a 21yo girl, they told her she would need to mature into it to encompass it's true meaning.. This song was written for a much older person.. Joni proved the remark to be spot on by performing her latest version post 60+ yo.. The depth she was able to convey from a different point in life blew us all away..
I have commented before. This is the most beautiful, classiest rendition of this song. Beautiful guitar, beautiful man and voice. Just wonderful, thank u!
I was blown away by your cover of this classic and one my favorite songs. I love when you added an extra I really don't know life at all at the end. The song was performed with such emotion. It grabs and captures the attention of the audience even more. I can't stop listening to it. Phenomenal!
I just discovered this channel. How could I have missed him all these years? Amazing rendition of one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Near tears by the end.
Wow! Very nice interpretation of this timeless song! Your warm, clear voice lent itself exceptionally well to the subtlely needed to do this song well. Best of luck with your career.
I have just listened to SEAL's cover of 'Both Sides Now'. He sang beautifully. But somehow I feel that anguish of a soul in purgatory. And then I come up with this rendering by VONCKEN. A true performance from heaven. Moving but appeasing. Thank you so much
I was just searching for acoustic covers, while I'm learning guitar and looking for inspiration. This was my mom's favorite song (passed ten days before 9/11)...literally brought me to tears. I don't think words can describe how much I love this rendition. Thanks man.
