This is the long awaited Am Bothan a Bh'aig Fionnghuala by the Bothy Band. I've been looking for it live for a year or so, and I finally found it on tg4's Siar an Bóthar on the 7th of january, 2009.
Sung by Micheál O Domhnaill with Triona Ni Dhomnaill and Donal Lunny on harmony.

Beautiful! I only wish they'd shown a bit more than just that tiniest glimpse of Donal at the very end, especially as it's his low 2nd harmony line that puts such beautiful modal shapes on Michael and Triona's fifths.

I have this song on my 'The Celts' soundtrack. Always loved it. It was done by Gli Scapoli. I'm assuming it's traditional?
@hark1222
@hark1222 4 года назад
It's actually an harmonic adaption of a traditional fishermen's work song from the isle of Barra, thus Scott's gaelic I presume. Not sure if the Irish groups pronounce it right, as every performer I've heard mumbles it differently. You can find different and additional verses plus translations on the net if you google.

@Yu5aku
@Yu5aku 9 лет назад
+Paul Lavan The Bothy Band formed in 1975. Clannad formed in 1970 (and their harmonies are superb, in my humble opinion). I don't think either of the two bands "got the harmonies" from the other . I suppose instead that they were both just part of bigger tradition.
