My favorite documentary. I was honored and privileged to visit his home in Angorno Rizal, actually asked permission to stand in his footsteps. ad an artist, as a Filipino, my heart is always full after seeing this video.

My favorite detail on Francisco's "Filipino Struggles Through History" is the 1872 execution of GomBurZa at the very center of the mural, serving as the turning point where the seeds of a collective "Filipino" consciousness were sown, the people of the archipelago beginning to see themselves as their own people, as Filipinos, distinct and separate from Spain and deserving to shape their own destiny, thus setting the generation of Rizal and Bonifacio down the path that would eventually culminate in an independent Philippines. Because of this, some say the Filipino nation was born at that moment in 1872, and I think Botong Francisco beautifully renders that interpretation of history in his mural.

Tagalog with English subtitles would’ve made more sense. Creating a video about a native Tagalog national artist in English is really sad.
