Botulinum toxin type A (NTBA), more commonly known as Botox, it is used to relax the muscles and reduce sweating and wrinkles.
In the 80's the Botox was used by neurologists to relax muscles contracted excessively such as in the eye muscles with strabismus. At the end of this decade a dermatologist Dr. Alastair Carruthers of Vancouver realized that his wife's patients, Dr. Jean Carruthers, an ophthalmologist, had fewer wrinkles in crow's feet when they were treated with Botox for strabismus issues. It was the beginning of the use of Botox to reduce wrinkles.
