Bottom Bouncing for Brown Trout & Steelhead in Lake Ontario 2019

Here's how I rig up for bottom bouncing... I tie my mainline to a 3 way swivel to a 3/4oz - 1 1/2oz (depending on current) to a 1 foot to 3 foot leader to your bait of choice. You cast upstream and let the current take your bait. The key is to tick bottom, not drag or not feel bottom. The fish are all hugging close to the bottom and are waiting for food to pass by.
The way you know you have a fish bite is usually a strong tug so you set the hook or you'll get a slow bend on your rod so you set. Those are the 2 ways I know that I have a bite. You can watch the rod tip on the video to see how it looks like.

Rod: Raven RPX 11'6 Custom
Reel: Shimano Stradic Ci4+ 3000 Spinning Reel

Isco Disco I wish I had the full fight of the first fish. It came in fast like a small fish and next thing I know it’s starts to peel off. I only managed to capture the end of the fight. I had no idea I would catch a fish 15mins into fishing

Thanks man could you recommend some creeks that hold steelhead this time of year I know the 40 mile creek and this area does but that’s about it I’m looking for more in the Niagara region or just outside it

Do you hold your line with your index finger for extra feel or is that something you just do? Just curious. Nice catch and good on you for the quick releases.

I use to do this a lot when I was a kid to get better feel of the taps. If you have a sensitive rod you wouldn’t need to do it. I also do this often with my baitcaster
