Find a 2003 up crown vic...take the front suspension and the 4.6 with overdrive and stick it on. Then do the stuff you always do....I like the 2 door conversion.
OH, YOU LUCK MAN! A1951 Mercury! COOL BEANS! I see this one chopped, with frenched headlights and taillights, gnarly toothy grille, dual spotlights, sun visor, louvered hood, whitewall tires, full moonies, a snarky grumbling 50ish FORD engine with a tri-power set-up ( please don't put an LS engine it ) and painted an eggplant purple with a purplish-pinstriped gray interior! I guess you can tell I like the old school lead sled hot rod look.
The last project my father and I worked on together before he passed away was a 51 monarch barn floor slowly came down on roof and crushed it in pretty good enough to pop the back window out did not break it just popped out. I did all the body work and the roof alone I have 160 hrs getting it back into shape. Shoulda cut roof off and weld on new one but wanted to keep it all orig. Total hrs on body was 270 hrs I had in it there were no holes in body or floor just alot of pulling dents. My father worked on electrical, engine and that stuff it was the best memories one could ever have it was my dream to build one and he made it come true. After he passed away my brother's oldest son bought it I'm so so glad it stayed in the family
That's a great find, I love it! First time for me seeing a Canadian 51 Merc grille, sure is different. Looking forward to videos of u working on the old girl. Best to u!
Being a 1951 model myself I love that you keep working on a variety of 1951 autos... However, they do make me feel a bit old when I realize what was in the new car showrooms when I was born 10/1951...
That's kinda how I feel, in the 70's and 80's when 50 60's 70's car's were every where you could buy a used car next to nothing. I remember when 3 of my friend would pitch in $100 bucks each or more depending on what the car cost and have a summer car we would pass around we all could drive gas was under a buck cigarette 90 cents a back or less 12 pack if beer was $5. This was in the early 80's in California bay area. Now all that's gone most of the auto wrecking yards junk yards to buy used parts. Now they are really regulated where you might as well just buy the part new because the parts about the same price of buying a used part. Good Ol day's. We do have some pretty big swap meets that's where you can buy old car parts.
It's always fun when you bring a new project home and start digging through it. Treasure hunt! Funny what other people store in their cars.....lol Cool project, Brent!
,My uncle Stan used to have a Lincoln/Mercury dealership in Connecticut during the 30's & 40's I love Mercurys & especially the modern 50's Continental!
very nice score Brent ,very nice self closing suicide doors ,,she should be a nice sled.. i kept waiting on every box you pulled out for critters to jump out .
Hello! Great car find! My husband says you hit the mother lode on this one. He liked the idea for your trailer spare tires under the ramps too! Can’t wait for the work to begin! Enjoy.
I've used crown Victorias for parts cars 4.6 V8 not a power house but reliable and easy to swap front suspension and rear 8.8 they are a little wide though but easy to find cheap
That’s my ultimate dream car!! I agree with you, get it running and enjoy it!! Hope you DON’T go LS but, it’s your car!! Treat her right and with a tone of respect and she’ll respect you back!!
Here goes! When I was a kid, over 60 years ago, a kitten would follow me home frequently. As kids do, come kitty here kitty my mom will really like you. Then when I got home I would say, Mom look what followed me home ! I hope you don’t get accused oof that. Honey look what I found!
great find! if I'm not mistaken, the Mercury were among the cars whose roof was most often lowered. it would be nice to eliminate the rear doors by welding them (I don't know if it can be done 😊)
Can't wait for this one..every upload you do gets better and better..love the content and the can do attitude. So refreshing not to see someone spending three weeks on one panel!
Nice Merc. How about a 4.6 out of crown vics? Good motor, plentiful, cheap, make good power. Im not a Ford man but the crown vic i bought for $300 seven yrs ago & still driving is starting to win me over.
Awesome as car man. I love those rear suicide doors... so cool. Mercs are wicked as. Keep the patina. I would definately put a small block chev in it though....
Boy does this '51 Merc with suicide doors bring back memories of that huge back seat, Rosemary and me. Unfortunately the car had a hole in its crossover pipe and I was a kid with no money. Rosemary decided to quit me and went out with Bob because "his car wasn't loud and didn't stink of fumes". One day, a plumber came to my house to repair my parents shower when I rolled into the driveway. He heard the noise and said he'd fix it for nothing because he'd tagged a little extra on my father's bill for the piping I needed. The car got plumbing pipe welded to the exhaust flanges as a cross over pipe and a replacement was created. It was really quiet after that. Rosemary never came back but she left Bob and at 18 married some guy from the next town over no one knew. BTW If you like Chopping Roofs, This car as a 4 dr with a chopped roof is the coolest of all the chopped roof cars. ...But I guess you already know that.
I can't wait to see what you do with it. I love seeing old cars going down the road who cares what engine. Fuel injection and overdrive. I like to make them safer also, collapsible column, disc brakes. convert to 2 door sedan-chopped.
51 is my favorite year because of the back quarter panel's come out longer. I was going to say the front end looks different I thought it was a Lincoln at first then you said Canadian Mercury.
I had my eye on a Merc Montclair down the alley as kid, I couldn't sleep thinking what I would do with it but I didn't even have a license or job or anything yet, lol... Bro, we got the same truck! Mine's Green 02 Ram quad 4x4 with 2 10's under the back seat, Green LED's under the console forward and back, in the dome and cargo lamps and grill. You can see it in my Incredible Barn Find Yard Sale video with the 2 little Canadian Simca cars you may recognize
Cold War Motors just did a review of his yard, and he showed the Pacemaker car (Hudson) that the glove box lid goes to. I never heard of one before today, and now twice in a day.
That tail light was once on a 1959 chevrolet. It looked to he in good shape, Someone will be interested in buying it. Old chevy's are real poplular restoration projects right now. Later.
Have you ever done or come across a 54 Pontiac Laurentian? Some of my earliest memories were in my Dad's back in the early sixties listening to some Roy Orbison.. swear the air smelt thicker and sweeter back then but... kids... go figure eh? lol
