I bought this 65 junk yard mustang for spare parts for a 66 mustang, but was just curious if it might still run. Let’s find out. #oldcars #mustang #carrescue #ford #barnfinds Music Credits: epidemic sound
This car has very little rust compared to that red 66, making it a way better car. When a Mustang has the amount of rust on the quarter that your 66 has, it more than likely has frame and wheel well rusts. The hood on this 65 is a Ford service replacement part. That's why there's a part number and a manufacture date. These Mustangs are a bit more than just a rebodied Falcon. There isn't much inner sheet metal that is the same as on a Falcon. In fact the gauge cluster is even different from a Falcon. This 65 has lots of potential.
The red one is almost perfect underneath. I saw nothing but good metal underneath. Got video of the underside coming up in another video. Go figure! Weird huh?
I buy them, video the work being done, sell them and buy something else to video. I just want to basically get them running and let someone Else finish them. You can sink more money in them than you can ever get back.
Unfortunately your never going to have the original transmission, but I think you really need to keep this car together, and at least give it some body work. Their isn't any 65 mustangs in production anymore. Your the keeper of this car, and the one who will decides if it survives into the future or not.
At my age I don’t think I will be able to do anything with it. I bought it as a parts car for a nicer 66 that came out with a six and a stick. I am probably going to sell them both together and let someone else do all of the work.
The mustang is very closely related. The Falcon was a unit body car not a body on frame car. The front end sheet metal finders and hood as well as the front facia are all different than the falcon. All of the suspension components are shared between the to cars. Mustangs are five lug wheels and hubs and rear axel. Both cars share the same C4 automatic. The top on the mustang is almost the same as the Falcon futura ( a lower roof line and a hard top. If you count the freeze plugs in the block you can tell if it's a 170 or 200 thrift 6. The engine started out in 1960 as a 145 6 for the first falcon. When Ford created the Falcon van the engine became a 170. The 170 had a longer stroke than the 145. Later by mixing parts Ford created the 200 by swapping the van block with one more main bearing and a longer stroke with the larger boar of the 170 falcon block to make the 200. In Australia the was a 250 cid version with a cross flow head and a separate intake manifold. The US thrift 6 has the intake cast with the head. The thrift six stayed in production into the early 80's as a option for the Granada and the base engine for the Maverick.
Title both and fix both in time! Less every year on the road! Both are cool! In the last 35 years, I’ve parted out vehicles, that if I had today, would be worth 20 times what I paid for them
I just wanted to.point out, your Mustang could be a 1964 1/2 not a 65. One sure way to tell is look in front of the battery at the radiator support metal piece in front if you see 4 open slots in front of the battery on this piece your mustang is a 64 if no slots its a 65.
i think both should be fixed...there is no shortage of mustang parts so a parts car really isn't needed yes? also, double check the production on that one, i see some signs of it being a 641/2 car.
I’ve decided to put the standard transmission out of the 66 mustang into this one and make it a driver. I have a 6 cylinder and C4 in my 67 fairlane I’m going to put down into the red one and a 302 with a C6 into the fairlane. It’s a lot of work but will be some good video footage for my channel.
Smart move. Now you got a semi driver now with red one Dave all parts and when you swap 3speed into 6*cyl get cross bar and all linkage. 6 cyl cars had 4 lug wheels. 8 had 5 lug. Check to see if red has an gen too Good luck save all parts even seats for frames
Your comment has convinced me to do just that because that’s what I had planned in the first place. The parts car is so rough and has no title. So I’m pulling the parts car engine and swapping everything over to the red one. Thank s for your input.
Unfortunately I’m going to use it as a parts car for the other mustang. Sacrificing one so the other can live. I just get them drivable and sell them for someone else to restore.
Yeah I can get one here in Arkansas and I probably will. I bought it as a parts car but it has good bones. I will probably fix her up some for my future videos. Thanks for watching.
I actually had this car , 1965 6 cylinder. Had it for 20 years, sold it couple years ago for 20 k, it was a convertible though. Kinda wish I still had it, but only drove it about 200 miles a year, so figured someone else might as well have it. Did a lot to it through the years, was a beautiful car when I sold it.
In Ohio, you can go through the court and get a title for an untitled car. Ive restored them for over 40 years. Unless your a die hard purist, keep the 289. Worth way more money then a straight 6
I hope you keep her in one piece. Replacement parts are available for just about everything on those year Mustangs. No need to tear one apart to save another.
The alternator would indicate this to be a 1965 as the 1964 1/2 cars had generators. If the light on the dash says gen, and hasn't been changed, it Is 1964. That being said, sometimes model year changes were not consistent as new changes were put in earlier models because they ran out of parts and just put the upgraded parts in, and, vice versa. People were known to upgrade to alternators as a generator does not produce consistent power.
I use what I have to get them running and driving again. I sell everything after I video them. I don’t want to finish anything for me to use. More of my viewers say 6 cylinder stick than say V8 stick. I go with what my viewers and potential buyers want. You and only one more person said put a v8 back in it.
Find one more parts car with a decent interior get some seats clean it up a little bit that patina looks really good like that and just have a fun little toy
Dad had a 65 with the six in it. It was a red one with the pony interior and it would melt the tires in the first two ears. God bless and stay happy old buddy!
I said the differences in a 65 and a 66 was the 65 looked like a falcon gauge cluster and a 66 had the round gauge’s. The 67 and 68 were the same, the 69 and 70 were also the same.
