Not even, try a penny a pound. I meet people at laundromats and have them put one hundred pounds of it on the scale and I give them ten bucks and then have to work hard to get any money out of it. Even if you find some big cards in it it's still your time and work to sell it.
The issue with the sports card market going crazy is everyone thinks their old collections are worth a million dollars. From what I saw in this video this collection is worth no where near $8000. The Donovan Mitchell card you showed is not a rookie and worth maybe 10 cents. Still a cool video but I think you are way off on the value.
As a seasoned card collector, it is very important to keep your cards stored properly, to keep them in the very best condition possible. The cards in toploaders & mags should hold some decent value, as long as the previous owner took pride in his collecting. That being said, I do have some cheapo PC cards in good holders (penny sleeve, topload & team bag, at least). It kinda looks like they took his prized cards & left the rest. I didn't see any big hits, sorry to say.
$8,000....you should of been out at $800. You have to remember that some storage auctions are not lien auctions...sometimes the owners will allow someone to sell out of their facility for a cut of the sale price. This seemed very staged and is probably loaded with so so cards with not many heavy hitters. Also, if you ever do alot of storage units alot of the paper items have environmental damage on them even in a climate controlled unit. Alot will show mildew under a microscope. FYI
Yeah $8k is way too much for that locker. I'd value it at like $800 just by what's shown. Unless I'd seen thick magnetic card holders maybe some high end autographed memorabilia, or early to mid 1900s signs i wouldn't buy a sports card locker.
Really enjoying the path the channel is taking with collectables and storage lockers. Have to say though Dan, I really enjoy your product reviews, especially leading up to Christmas when brands are sending out all their new stuff for reviews. Like the OLED TV and that vacuum cleaner was an absolute beauty. Never thought a hoover could be so damn hi-tech and damn rights sexy. More of those certainly wouldn't go a miss 😎
definitely not going to double your $$$. unless you have some major cards you didn't show, you might be able to get back 3-4k max and will probably take 5-10 months. sorry for your loss. The original owner knew what they where leaving behind. Junk wax not worth anything 😞
It would be really nice to see a follow up video where you highlight the ones that your pals picked as being high value. I’m seeing a few thousand, $2-$3k max here…
It would be fun to see RU-vidr Chris Sewell of Baseball Card Collector Investor Dealer and see what he would give you for them and then what he ultimately sells them for.
I've sold to Chris, he wouldn't pay much at all if anything for it. It's full of junk wax, stuff that had millions and millions of them printed. This Lot isn't worth 800, nevermind 8000 and it's going to take him hundreds of hours to get a fraction of his money back
I agree. If you want an honest guy to give your fair value for those cards without spending a lot of time listing and selling them individually, Chris would be great guy to get a quote from.
He should make a room in his house of these sports cards as a collection with a desk to unbox these and a case, glass one, and hang them up around the room.
That has to be one of the worst storage lockers I have ever seen. $200 worth of cards if that. I love people like this that buy all my junk at my garage sales and know nothing about the market. Yes Kobes and Jordans are worth money but not anything seen in this video. If that was true then I had a pallet of junk wax 5,000 count boxes that I could have retired on. I don’t know what’s worse, that someone actually top loaded all that garbage and actually spent money on a climate controlled storage unit or that someone spent $8000 to clean up their mess.
I said the same thing! It's nothing but $200-300 of junk wax. If he offered to sell me the entire lot for $200 I'd definitely have to think about it, haha.
I do not think you could make a profit off of this find because if you pay 8k for some junk wax where is your return. And there is no way possible that you could make 50k of of those commons especially when it coast 150$ to grade a card at psa
I have a story about Kevin Garnett.ps this is my grandpas story. I was working a consesion stand at a basketball tournament in Solon Ohio and Kevin Garnett who’s in high school comes up and asks for a free drink I say no you have to pay because in a few years you’ll have enough money to pay for everyone’s drink
Looking at the whole situation, I strongly think that you (as the winner, among other bidders) might have been setup. Hard to prove it but look at the whole thing. 1. The storage unit is primarily empty EXCEPT for the sports cards and that small dresser. 2. The cards are in CLEAR / SEE THROUGH bins?! When anyone takes a picture(s) the insides can be seen. 3. A big box that is OPEN which is full of ONLY cards?! From my experience of finding sports cards in storage lockes, they are usually in closed boxes, or in sorter boxes, which is put inside a bin, not necessarily in a clear bin either... usually found in taped up boxes, not wide open. What I think happened,l is that the storage had a unit that was up for sale but only had that one furniture or other small items that they knew was trash, and instead put those cards, clear bins, huge box that's wide open and filled it with their own trash cards (not worth a lot of money) and made it look like it was a treasure inside that storage unit. This is a good lesson for you, especially in Vegas lol
I love you guys so much I have been watching you guys for a couple years now and I am still watching I am not planning on stopping for a couple more years
I`m a long time seller and collector I feel bad saying this but that junk was left there for a reason I honestly hope that there where a couple valuable item that we did not get to see good luck
Lol dang. at least he probably gets youtube revenue n learned a lesson if he lost. So where do u buy or sell from? how do u profit? i am considering buying some dozen(s) of cards not because i wana gamble to find a bargain, or to invest n resell, but for fun. like I'd buy cards worthless because they're reprints, just for fun. or a worthless card of a player i like. on ebay, there's tons. Magic in college, Jordan playing golf, Tyson Chandler in high school (worthless but he went to high school around the same time n area as me), Tiger Woods, maybe Mickey Mantle 1951 reprint...and i found all of these cards n more for 99 cents each lol, free shipping after 30$ (sometimes free period). Trading is more fun. i have a bunch of Donruss baseball cards from like 90 or around there, some big names like MJ that my brother damaged on the corner on, some good duplicates that i should trade, but ebay isn't about trading. Its basically all for fun.
I think it's gonna be a repeat of the 90's junk wax era. Cards are being mass produced at such a high level, that there's gonna be a major crash in the market. The real question is, when they will crash, and liquidating before that happens
@@traviscoates6878 I don't think that's gonna happen. I mean if your stocking up on base cards sure that could happen. But with fanatics taking over and putting over 100 million into advertising (when have you seen commercials for sports cards?) The popularity is already crazy. We'll see i guess
I really wish you would have shown some of the better cards. You mentioned cards on the table being from $20 to $600. From what you showed in the video I didn’t see much value. I’d be shocked if you made your money back on that lot. With the amount of time sorting you’d have been way better off flipping something else but get that you wanted the content. I did like your advice to people not risking thousands of dollars if they have no knowledge of cards. It’s so much work if you are starting from zero.
Please consider donating your cards that have very little value to local children's hospitals or charities!! Kids love sports and it's educational to read the statistics on the back of the cards. Also please donate the cards to local fire and police Department's so they can had out to community situations!!!!! We have done this for many years and has been meet with much appreciation!
So much money and time wasted wow...and nearly every single one of the cards you showed, and thought its worth a bit is basically worth nothing Also the 5k comic...1st, its a fixed price, its not really worth that much and he only puts the price up because of the 9.9 graidng thats insanely good...yours is not worth more than 10 bucks, and thats a generous guess. Of course you didnt show everything, but you are extremely extremely lucky if you get 50% so 4000$ back, but probably much less Of course youre new to all that stuff, but you really should get help by an expert do avoid thing like that
I know right? Says he loves basketball but apparently only knows about Jordan, Kobe, Garnett, Shaq and Duncan. Can't even say Giannis correctly and he's the best player in the NBA.
Look out for old topps chrome, finest. Sp authentic. Out of those old singles some of the only ones that were interesting were the magic finest with a coating on it and the Tim Duncan sp authentic. You have a looooot of cards that aren't worth too much sadly. You should definitely keep the packs unopened as those are actually decent for resale value. It's very clear this guy saw the boom. Sold his good stuff. And put the rest in storage. If you think about how much he opened. If he left the good stuff you'd have at least some more real autos/jersey cards. I will also say your friends were very optimistic in some ways. That Donovan Mitchell "rookie" is actually his second year card. So you were misinformed on that one.
Yikes. I didn’t see anything I haven’t owned or passed on. I’m guessing there were. I just didn’t see anything. John Stockton, Charles Barkley have money in their early fleer rc’s. Duncan and Webber were guys I loved but not worth anything. I would’ve expected a lot more from the locker. That person already sold or picked up the good stuff if there was sny
why are people that "love basketball" still not able to say Giannis properly? He's the best player in the league, has two MVPs and won the Finals last season. Unreal.
I have a question. What website do you find your lockers with sports cards in them? I am a big sports card whiz and I want to buy some lockers with sports cards in them.
The Nolan Ryan ball and picture, I was at that game with my mom. We sat on the 3rd base line and we had no idea what had happened except that from where we were sitting it looked like he had dirt on his jersey and every inning he would come out with a new shirt. We didn't know till the next morning and we saw that picture on the front of the morning newspaper.
I haven't even been through my boxes of cards that I bought in 1999 at a Millionaires Estate Sell. I did see 1960's to 88' Topps, Upper Deck, Donruss, Fleer & Ultra's, NBA Cards but only a few MJ's, Magic & a few others. That old Dude knew what he was collecting. I bought them all for $25! I don't know anything about these cards. lol
Hope you brought a towel for the bath you just took. There's so much work involved and outside the Tatum there was nothing that will fetch more than a few bucks. Comics are a whole different animal. Graders need to scan the spine and every single page before assessing a grade. No way that Superman is a 9.8. Sorry man.
This video was a headache to watch from beginning to end. People like this is why the hobby is crumbling. Spent 8k on something he knows nothing about, what the hell did he expect to happen? lol
Always entertaining seeing these storage locker, yard sale and thrift store RU-vidrs thinking they’re hitting the jackpot when they find a ton of junk wax that isn’t even worth the paper it’s printed on
It's not a 1/1 so stop with that. It is an error card with Donald Royal on front and Kobe on back worth a couple hundred bucks. Several of these errors were released.
I really want that. But my dad would say no. I LOVE sports cards. And keep on trying to find more storage locker with cards. I’m digging the video. Even though I’m really young I would say that is about. 20,000 and I will grade cards for hours.
Just wondering if there is a good reliable website you use to look up the price of your cards? I have a bunch of old cards in my parents basement but I don’t know if any of them are worth anything and I don’t have any awesome friends like yours that could help me out.
I've lost an entire collection before, and only recently started to recollect cards. Unless the guy who owned that locker is dead, I KNOW personally from experience that it's gonna hit him hard one day what he lost....
Wow, come on man...first off you have no business buying this for any amount when you look at an autographed picture of Whitey Ford and call him "Whitty Ford"!!!
