For some reason it's so mesmerizing to watch DF's videos. Strangely calming but also very entertaining.

So I'm sure you did your research by now, but if you didn't know or no one told you, you can build stuff on bridges. Vaults also auto-pickup stuff from you inventory when you gather stuff on the ground, so those are also pretty useful to store stuff you pick often and their content is still available when crafting or building new structures. Just letting you know for future video, watching this one made me buy the game in a heart beat so I want to give back, even if it's just information. Keep up the great videos DF!

It would be fun if you could choose the biome of your lands to change certain things, picking desert could have the water replaced by quicksand that you can't place fishing traps on, though some tiles could have an oasis

There’s little cracks in the ground where you can dig and get stuff. Also, there’s a bunch of different biomes outside of the central 3x3 grass biomes and the cost probably tells you which order you should unlock them in. Also, specing into industry is probably a good idea, you might find some things to make life easier.
