Might be just me but not a huge fan of the owner asking you for a price when you ask him how much he wants for it. Like he owns the business. Why should you have to ask him the price over and over. If he is selling, he needs to throw out a number, or price his stuff accordingly and then you come to a deal. Idk. That would have annoyed me personally.
@Will-qd2km
@Will-qd2km Год назад
Glad someone else feels this way. Everything is s for sale but nothing has a price. Then when you do start talking I get the feeling like your trying to get one over. And $900 was no deal for that, just about what it's going for anywhere.

Typical redneck parlor trick. These types of guys will try and make you think they're giving you the world, but they're not really. They buy dirt cheap and sell for over top dollar and put on an act like it's breaking their bank and really hurting their bottom line to come down on price. I see these types and I turn and walk out on them.

You're right actually, I used the word "barter" when I should have used the word " haggle", which they did. I just can't stand it when these video game stores act like they REALLY don't wanna let go of something! I know that this stuff is rare and not cheap, but if someone is coming to your store and they're spending big money then don't try to bust their heads on everything! Not EVERYONE is out to buy all this stuff and I know there's more people out there than what people think buying old retro stuff and will always be, but once these items start being sold for astronomical amounts only certain people will be able to buy them! I absolutely LOVE going to old retro stores for electronics and video games, but usually the owners and people working there are assholes! You know what you want for your items, so name a price! When someone is asking :"What would you give me for it?" or "What's it worth to you!?" They're hoping you will pay them more for the item than what they were asking for it! If they're selling something for $100 and you tell them you will give them $150 or $200 then they've made an extra $50-$100 off someone! Just say what you want for your items and be done with it damn!

Great video Rick!

Old dudes like this are funny. They will just assume you don't know anything without even trying to have a conversation with you about it. I've seen it in record stores, at flea markets, antiques shops, you name it. Last week a dude tried to pull this on me and I just walked out with my pockets still stuffed with cash. I don't like being confronted with a surly attitude when I'm trying to enjoy myself. Unfortunately for them, know what their stuff is worth and I know when I'm getting a good deal or not without all the bluster and chest-puffing

I’m not getting the carnival or shady connection? Care to elucidate? This kind of place is very common in the south - I’ve been to countless antique stores, record shops and other private businesses in the south and most have this vibe. Little bit grimy and lack of professional polish, but a lot of character in these places - its similar to hastily set up flee market stall or garage sale .. southerners aren’t fancy or well-kept .. just laid back and raw.

Honestly, I think the old man went super easy on your price, especially giving you that Nomad box for free.... Im curious about where yall went wit the ps3s, and everything else. Amazing store, honest to god people. Good stuff! P.S - The reason the old man asks for the price, is because some of those things are priceless really, and they dont sell anymore, so the price is really up to negotiation and fairness between both parties, this isnt a gamestop with executives demanding price tags. These are cherished items being traded from one to another. So in all fairness 800 was low, but he had to see where the man stood, and 900 was a solid deal, he easily coulda asked for 1000, or 1200 even, but the price started at 800 and thats where they went from.

Owner is the master old school bazaar haggler. He approached the sale in this order: The first mention of the close: "you get a pile up and well talk about it" This immediately makes the buyer start a larger pile without worrying of the sticker shock, and leading to a bigger sale. After that it was broken down like this: 1. "You tell me" 2. "What do you think" 3. "I wasn't planning on letting this go" 1. He has fished for basic information to get the best deal possible while at the same time seeming like it is nothing more than just a deal to him. Diffuse and fish. 2. See the absolute value of everything in the customers eyes. 3. Before the finality of the deal the owner preempts the buyers expectations with how he sees these to have a hefty value, and almost an inconvenience for him to sell, even after he made the whole transaction just seem like an open carefree thing in the very beginning. A total flip flop but genius. A+ On the old man selling this guy.
