As a doorman I think of anybody who is doing this job for glamor is a meathead as there is no glamor in this job. In fact it's not different than working as security guard but with the extra risk.

Faisal Abdallah I've never had any grief with doormen.Same as anyone else.I treat people with respect & it's usually reciprocated.Manners cost nothing and I wish that some of the people you deal with would learn that.

Agreed Brother. 28 years in the job. I focus on the task of protecting people and endeavour to be honorable in all my actions. When done with honour the job is a blessing. It is without thanks and that's part of the job. Unscrupulous venue managers are as dangerous as any patrons with a head full of booze and a lifetime of un-met needs.

"Just because they walk away don`t mean they ain`t coming back". Never a truer word spoken. Every threat of "I`m gonna come back and shoot/stab ya" has the potential to become reality, and you never really know. I survived my time on the doors in London with minimal scars, and I`m thankful for that. Goo dlittle film this.

"Flip flop" !!!! Now thats the best user name for me to reply to with an old story .... lets go back 45 years >To a club called "Cherries" right in the heart of Hereford . .Not a nice place on a dark nigh etc. Well on the doors in those days where the usual boneheads .That given the chance cause a fight just to kick head in . They always noticed a funny skinny who some might say looked like Jesus and would always be wearing sandals. Even when out running . He would quietly be walking or jogging and it was not rare to hear people taking the piss out of him. . Now one of the new boneheads thought he had some form of special license to just wind the "hippy" up a bit more than most and kept it going for a few weeks . The Guy ran past one night and after the door man had done his "Act of bravado" . The Hippy guy just told him to be quiet and leave him alone .Which the bonehead took as a invitation to ramp up his attack . The story goes Hippy man seriously fucked the bonehead up. quicker than expected and damaged 2 other door staff . Then Jogged off . The boneheads rallied around after a few days and went to find him and followed him . As he ran down Ross road and turned into Bullingham lane. One of the boneheads stopped the others and gave a little speech........ along the lines of " lets go home lads before this really ends up getting worse for us " !!!!!!!!!

Excellent and accurate, with really tight dialogue. sobering thoughts with the switch back ending. I used to do the door at my local pub for private parties, before the registration scheme started. A couple of the bar staff used to rip the p!ss out of me for wearing a clip on tie. Until one night after telling a lad to calm it down, he grabbed my tie to pull me down the stairs from the upper bar. The clip on tie saved me, didn’t work out well for him though, landed on his arse in the main bar.

This is a fantastic short film. Geoff Thompson's writing has inspired me over the years more than anyone else. I was a doorman for 3 years because of him and "Watch my back" was my bible. 90% boredom, shit pay too cold outside, too hot inside. always walk back to the cars with your mates, in case some nutter does come back. get pulled by the bill at least half the time on the trip home cause you are the only one out. Hoping you don't get the nutter doorman on your shift, who luvs it. knives everywhere as he said at the start, look at the guy as a scumbag when you rock up, but aint you glad to see him step in when a real scumbag wants to ruin your night.

So true. We all get treated like shit until we are needed.always stay switched on until you are safe in your house boys and girls.had a quiet night on the door in Glasgow one night then ended up in a fight getting a pack of cigs in a garage on my way home because some prick noticed me and started shite. So always keep your wits about you and always have an escape route in your head if the fight gets heavy handed.

I had the case where 3 nights in a row i didn't get into a cub, rightly so, i was too drunk (never caused any violence) but then a couple of weeks later i was walking home from the library 100% sober and saw them being bouncers for a different club, they both looked and me and laughed then one proceeded to spit at me, not so nice now...

I've worked as a doorman, very stressful, resisting the urge to kill mouthy smart drunken conts. I never felt fear 'cos I knew I could. Always alert (secretly hoping for a situation that would be defensible in court, just for the satisfaction.), but pay not worth the risk of going to prison for vicious murder. Weapon= justifiable homicide.

Saw this ages ago. Sort of reminded me of one of those public information films they had when we were kids. Motto off the story seems to be , don’t bully kids, they have knives (and guns nowadays tbh), and probably something about the non home office approved holds. For some reason they tag on the bit about looking well hard and working out whilst in prison. A kind of rocky training montage tagged on the end of something with a halfway sensible message. Actually one of my mates ended with some guy he put in a hold, having a heart attack. He only ever went to prison to teach literacy though, works as radiographer nowadays. There are plenty of bullies out there, and some kids paid sweet nothing , with very little clue just how much nastiness and games of cops and robbers go on without them noticing. I met Geoff Thomson briefly at a martial arts expo on Birmingham. I remember he got into an actual fight with one of the Gracie brothers. He had some decent insights though. Doorwork especially ij the UK is a fairly sheltered way to pressure test your skills , that was Geoffs stated purpose for working in the industry . Unfortunately it does encourage bullies. There’s a going few bouncers who would have my back if I ied the way. There’s very very few who would jump in if the odds were against me. Fortunately there’s others who take up that slack. . Stop and Think when someone reminds you “Who’s your friend “ . and make sure you mean it when you reply. . Mostly not acting like a c*+t. is a better bet. Stab vest might be an idea too. Bouncers saying its not “glamorous” is a bit daft. More than half the people doing job like the attention from the opposite sex. It’s ever decreasing rates of pay in a gig economy. Even if you like a scrap , you always have the worry of getting nicked. So yeah it’s not awesome but generally better for your self esteem than stacking shelves at tescos especially when you get a bit older. Kids bossing you around isn’t nice. The links to serious crime are always just below the surface. That’s not glamorous. Its a complicated mess. Steer clear.

@@vinvass2674 Why wouldn't a real doorman be on a RU-vid Ray Winston clip? Do doormen not watch RU-vid, or don't they specifically watch Ray Winston RU-vid clips? And you don't think that doormen would offer advice to youngsters getting into the game do you on or off social media? Here's a suggestion, don't do that. You've got a lot to learn and in this case, civility is one of many.
