Holy cow note to self don't even think about it. That will be cool to see when you are done building this kit. Keep up the great work and Rust In Peace.
Hello Harry. The HMS Bounty that I'm setting up on my channel, was also almost the same thing that happened to you. I bought it from a lady who had given her son to ride. When he saw the difficulty, he put it up for sale on a website. Now I have the boat almost assembled. I will love to see you ride that boat. Hug.
@@HarryHoudiniModels hi harry.i hope to try but no promises though.may be try the longboat in wood i saw when i got the plastic one.not as complex so perhaps a good start.cheers mate .tom
I was born in St. Petersburg, Florida here in the US And downtown at the st. Petersburg Pier The bounty Used to tie up at the pier and it was a Traveling museum that you could walk through.( I wish we could post pictures On RU-vid) unfortunately a couple years back it Sank off the coast of either North or South Carolina .. Very sad She was a beautiful ship😔. Awesome build My friend I enjoyed the videos !
Not the same ship... your one was built for the 1960 movie and was a completely different size and shape, to accommodate the Hollywood cameras of the day. So only Bounty in name. The later 1978 replica for movie which Mel Gibson stared in, was a much closer replica of the actual HMAV Bounty which Bligh captained in the Pacific.
The sinking of the replica tall ship HMS Bounty during Hurricane Sandy resulted from the captain's "reckless decision" to try to outrace the storm with a small, inexperienced crew and pumps not working properly, federal safety officials have concluded. ... Coast Guard helicopters rescued 14 of the 16 crew members.Feb 10, 2014 www.usatoday.com › 2014/02/10 'Reckless decision to sail' sank Bounty during hurricane - USA ..
Great video as always Harry. I'll be Looking forward to this build very interesting to say the least. Insane crazy, your nutz, get help now! look under the table you've lost your mind! to say the most. 🤣 but I know you of all people will have the most fun. and this is why I like Australians your cuckoo for Cocoa puffs.👍
I love wooden ship models Harry and I would love to build ships but it's not only the Learning. I know some ship model companies have mistakes on drawings misfit ting parts and then it's also the tooling up costs!
Well even plastic kit manufacturers get it wrong. If you want accuracy in any model you’ll need to do some research. As for tools to build ship models, all you need to begin are basic tools. Sure I have bought a few specialised tools along the way, which do help. But if you built one small wood ship, all you need are the average handy man / modellers tools. These days the kits are laser cut for you and modern instructions are very good, backed up by manufacturers like Occre with online videos showing every stage of construction.
Just do it. Fixing manufacturers mistakes is half the fun and modern kits are pretty free of them anyway. Buy something simple from a reputable company, like the Polaris from Occre, get some basic tools and give it a go.
Looks like you'll have some fun with this. With your skills though, I'm looking forward to seeing a 1/50 scale matelot tied to a grating receiving two dozen strokes of the lash from the Master-at-Arms with the rest of the crew watching!!! :D
Finally! At last some real modelling! What happend Harry? Did you get high on styrene fumes? Welcome to the world of real modellers. Did I spot some sawdust in your beard? Goodluck with the build and we, your fans, demand a full build log on this! Greetings from Sweden.
No fumes.. used to build wooden ships when I was young... have acquired a few wood ship kits for when I retire, but they are much bigger and much more complex. The Bounty was an unexpected find and seeing as I just made a plastic one... wood won't be much more difficult, considering all the scratch work I did on the Revell kit. Will do a step by step video series, lots of them, for this build.
@@HarryHoudiniModels yeah I've still got and use my 'paper towel holder' with a knob on the end I made in wood work class on the lathe 35 years ago... 😀
She, with whom I occasionally watch TV, is becoming somewhat perturbed that you are commanding more of my attention than her bunions. Beam me up Harry yessssssss.
Mr H, please sir could you share your contact details with me for constructo, as i'm after some instructions for the Thames river steamer ELIDIR, now recently the LOUISE...a few pictures I've seen show a colour booklet as with your Bounty kit being available and would like to ask them if I can obtain this from them, hope you can help?
Hi Martin. I just filled out their online form. You’ll need to use a translator if you don’t understand Spanish, I just used Google translate to work out the form fields. www.constructo.es/index.php?id_cms=20&controller=cms
@@HarryHoudiniModels thank you kind sir, I have a friend who is fluent in Espanyol, so if I get stuck, he can do the donkey work for me, apreciated budskì...Martin from the UK 🤜🇬🇧🇭🇲🤛
I have exactly the same model, also like yourself I bought it from some guy who gave up on it. I have same problem that you encountered and that is he lost the instructions. Could you possibly stick their email address on here so I could contact them and ask them for replacement instructions.
I made my request to Constructo was via their website contact form using Google translate to work out what each form box needed. They replied the next day and then quickly sent replacement instructions. www.constructo.es/index.php?id_cms=20&controller=cms
@@HarryHoudiniModels Thank you ever so much for that. I would also like to say I find all your videos on here are so informative and enjoyable. Please keep up with your videos.
Again... yes a sailing technique used for a specific purpose.. in a storm or for very prevalent follow winds. In calmer weather or for need of speed she would run all sheets to the wind, add stud sails and stay sails. Sailing Ships run many rigs depending on what they want the ship to do, or depending on the weather conditions.
Well this was very interesting which no doubt will be a problem in the future because thanks to you Harry Disclaimer i build tanks. I bought my first Airfix cute shark hmmmm productive text no no cutty sark. Grrrrrrrr please cary on with your down under informative movie's. A now addicted viewer from london
good pickup... with the aircon off and the windows closed to keep it quiet, as I record the video, it gets pretty hot. Did not realise so much of my hairy epidermis was showing!
I shot that on the kitchen table, because the box and plans were so big and had aircon off in the adjacent living room, very noisy in-wall rattler, plus the windows shut to keep out aircraft and traffic noise.. it was over 90 F in there at the time I shot! Next time I have a big ship to review, I will clear more space in the Hobby Room, so I can have it’s quiet aircon on as well as my pants!
Hello . I bought the Constructo kit of old version H.M.S. Bounty, but there is only one instruction , the second book with color photo is missing. Where can I buy a book? Thank you . Someone can send me copy of this book or sell.
This is a common problem. I have been contacted by many viewers who don’t have either the black and white plans or the coloured build booklet. You can just try asking on Facebook ship building groups to see it anyone has a left over book from their build. I have already sent mine to another modeller who needed it.
In the late 1980s reseachers found looking at a set of hand written note books on bounty ...written at the time bounty was being reconstructed....That the admiralty / scientific group ordered Bounty to be made about 11 feet longer making the captains living area larger and thus the plant growing area. The top sails on both tallest masts were taken down. Captain cook found it was easier to sail in pacific ocean in high winds with out top sails..cook had his top sails removedon his ships.. thus bounty had no top sails and was a made longer....so some models have the ship on old school holiwood replica ship (wrong size of the real bounty) others have the ship longer..but no model kits have had the sails reduced in height... However there are plans of the original bounty with the correct alterations available. Bounty had no top sails..
Sails go up and sails go down. Yes there were sails but in certain conditions they will be removed, as you say, for better handing. So out of Blighty on its way down south west of Africa it probably ran will all sails sheeted. But in tropical climes, the Gallant may have been hauled down. I am working from the best available plans. By the way Captain Cook was on the Endeavour, a 30m long Bark. The 28m long Bounty armed transport was captained by Bligh.
Can you show me Number 29 and 30 cause all this wood has me....the plans don't show it to scale :-) When are you going to start the build. I like your videos..
Thanks... the build is well underway with repairs to the bad planking almost completed. If you have a look at the Community tab on my RU-vid page or on Facebook, you’ll see the progress. By 29 and 30 are you asking about part numbers? Have you looked in the glossary at the end of the English instructions where all parts are identified in order and by wood type?
Had a look at my instructions. Parts 29 and 30 are the shapely (red brown) plank strips 500 x 2 x 6. The only difference is they chose a darker one for 30 compared to the lighter ones used for 29 on most of the lower hull. I am double planking to solve some of the kits issues. They supplied 500 x 0.5 x 6 thin planks in my kit for that purpose. Even though it is not in the instructions anywhere. I have nearly completed my double planking, so will show all of that next week in a series of videos on hull planking.
