THANK YOU!!! I lost my manual, just pulled my diacobery 3300 out, and have been searching RU-vid for 20mins to find a proper ground balance upload....12 worthless videos later infound yours! THANK YOU!!!
Hey Chadd thanks for putting this vid up. I can't think of a better way to demonstrate the Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300 and its features than the way you've outlined here in this video. There are so many things you've made us aware of that had to have been hours of research trial and error on your part that we can just verify for ourselves and have fun doing it. I bought my 3300 Discovery metal detector to locate and find screws and yard pins that I drop on the ground in my yard that I hoped my lawn mower doesn't discover before using my metal detector. Costco is selling it now for $99.
Just got mine 3 days ago, up graded from the 2200. Incredible machine. Thanks for the vidio, was not sure how to use this feature . Back tracked some of my recent spots an found even more finds.😅
Thanks for the comment, glad the video helped you out. My 11" DD coil came in yesterday and I went for a short hunt with it. Target separation seems better with it and target ID is as accurate as it was with the stock coil. I will try to do a recovery speed video with the DD and post it in the next few days.
Great informational video. I hope you have more that you can show with actually finding some items. Best of luck. I picked two of these up for the wife and I last winter, now just hoping since the snow is gone that we can get out and enjoy using them. I’m sure others may say that you need a bigger coil or higher end model, but the features that this one has it’s hard to complain. Again very good job explaining some of the features of this unit.
Yep it is hard to get the time to go out and hunt, seems like all we do is run with the kids so not much time for Detecting. The 3300 is easy to use and has enough features but isn't overwhelming to learn. Get one of the DD coils and it is hard to beat imo.
Thanks for the videos. I've had my 3300 for 3-4 weeks now. Still practicing around the house. Going to Florida to visit my new grand-baby and will bring the 3300 with me.
Yep! rusty nails, beercans and mostly trash. Didn't get a chance to get to the ocean though. I understand that you have to get a permit because of antiquities that you may find.
Yes the ground balance covers all modes. I chose the DD coil because it seems to be better in trashy areas. It detects in a "knife edge" front to back line vs the circular pattern of the standard concentric coils. I have been happy with the DD and have not taken it off the 3300 since I received it.
The only times I have noticed any falsing with the detector is if the coil hits something while sweeping or if you have the sensitivity up too high it will sometimes false at the end of your swing as you change back to the other direction on the swing. A good ground balance will help with the falsing at the end of your swing. As far as it falsing when hitting something with the coil you can turn down the sensitivity to help but I think it is just the nature of the 3300.
What happen when you power off it? Does the previous ground balance setting stay memorized? What happen when you turn he button while detecting? Does that affect the ground balance "directly"?
I understand that the coil is waterproof, but the control box is not. Does that mean that if it starts to drizzle or there's light rain, that you're done for the day? Here in Seattle, wet is what we get all the time. What's your experience with moisture?
Thanks for the videos. I'm looking for a detector and I'm debating between BH 3300, Delta 4000 or a EurotekPro. Difficult to decide. Each detector have its good and not-so-good moments being the 3300 seems to have the most features between all 3 and the target separation might be a win-win plus the ground balancing might could over-look the recovery being a little sluggish. I don't see any problem with the VDI number on the 3300 though I read the other two are suppose to be really good in that regard, so it hard to decide. Anyways, thanks for the videos, the BH 3300 seems the best so far in my mind. Sorry for my English as am Russian.
Chadd, thanks for a very informative series on the 3300. I'm concerned about the recovery time - trying to decide if it's a deal breaker. Was it hard to get used to swinging so slow?
Glad the videos helped out, the recovery time really isn't horrible and depending on what mode you run it in you will still hear a target and you can go over the target more slowly to check it out.
Great job Chadd, very informative. I live in Maryland, just got a 3300 and would love to hear your current thoughts on the DD coil now that you've had some time with it. I'm trying to decide which coils to buy and I'm sure you've researched them thoroughly. Why did you choose the DD over the 10"? Does the manual ground balance control the pinpoint AND all metal mode? Thanks.
I just got on of these last week. Do you still feel like it’s a good detector? And thank you for Taking the time to make this video on ground balancing. Totally helps a newbie.
No problem, I am happy you found it useful. Yes I think the 3300 is a good detector, it may not have multi frequency and target ID options of some other units but for the price it performs well. The biggest key to doing well with it is to use it and dig a lot of different targets. You will eventually figure out what it is telling you is in the ground.
@@chaddthompson okay thank you for the response. Yeah I’m knew to it all so I figure I need dig up all targets so I can understand the piece of equipment. I just got a pinpointer on Friday to help me find what i’m digging faster.
Thanks for the great video!! I was wondering if this detector is still a good device these days and If so is it any good on beaches? I'm trying to decide between this and the Garrett ace 300, Also does it have a waterproof coil? Thankyou.
SuperCrazykid77 I think it is still a good value today. I have not used it on saltwater beaches so I can't comment on that but I have used it on freshwater beaches and it works fine there. It does come with a waterproof coil. I think it is a good starting detector that is fairly simple to use but still has enough features to make it versatile. I also have a whites DFX and v3i and I still use the 3300 when I don't feel like messing with or carrying the whites detectors.
Thanks for watching the video. I never understood why BH doesn't make a set of videos for their detectors either. That is why I decided to make some of my own, I got a camera mount to mount a camera to the BH3300 so I plan on making some videos while hunting in the near future.
Great information, thanks for taking the time to do this. I am looking at a 3300 to buy and this will help me to check it out and use it if I buy it. I had one question, at the end of the video you turned the ground balance up and it didn't make the noise? I thought it made the noise every time you turned it up. Will it miss a lot of items turned up all the way? Thanks again.
If you turn the GB knob to the left after you ground balance it the detector will start screaming at you. If you turn it to the right as I did it doesn't. I don't really run the detector with the GB all the way to the right while searching, but if I find a weak signal I will sometimes turn it all the way to the right and it will pick up the deep item a bit better.
I bought this unit and love the features but depth is only about 4 inches. Don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Should I switch to a different coil for coin and jewelry? Help!
Depending on ground and target types you should be able to get quite a bit more than 4". You need to make sure you have it ground balanced correctly for your soil then adjust your sensitivity as high as you can without getting false signals. As far as jewelry goes silver will normally be a good hit but gold will a lot of times show up as trash, foil, pull tab etc. The DD coil can give you a bit more depth and make separating targets a bit easier. The biggest thing is just getting out and using it and digging a lot of targets until you figure out what the detector is telling you.
Don't worry about it positively identifying large iron as a high number/tone Most, if not all detectors, tone i.d. or single-tone, screen-type or not, will find the large iron and will make the operator think it's a good diggable target. Similar to the problem with bottlecaps and large can slaw or large aluminum foil. The pinpointing trick you used is a trick inherent in all detectors new or old. It's a universal phenomenon called nulling (grounding out everything but what's in proximity of the coil). Even the old 'lunchbox' disc. detectors from the 70s can do this. Pretty nice trick though, nonetheless! By the way, the recovery speed problem (IS) the size of the coil (AND) the detection circuit that almost all, if not all BHs use. All First Texas products have this inherent shortcoming from the cheaper sub-$100 Tracker IVs and such, all the way up to the Fisher F75s/Teknetics T2 LTDs. The smaller 4" coil should help a little but what's basically a speed programming shortcoming will not completely be fixed with just using a small 'sniper' coil. By the way, many people think a small 'sniper' is whimpy and can't hit the deep targets but (think again)..... They can go as deep or deeper than large coils (depending) once again, on the detection transmit power of the machine itself and the brand/model.
Hi Chadd... I bought this unit at Costco a month ago for $85, bargain, and have done well in parks and no problem ground balancing it. But...today I went to the beach after a big storm and searched around the 2 foot drop off where the erosion occured. All I got was a ton of 199 signals. Total confusion to me. Should I go back and dig those because they might be coins at a depth that give a false numerical reading? I was blaming the ground balance and thinking the pig iron was messing with me. Your advice is appreciated. A new detector is always a challenge...Dan
I have never used the 3300 on a saltwater beach so I won't be much help to you there, but have used it on fresh water beaches with no problem. Wish I had an answer for you but just not sure with a salt water beach.
@@chaddthompson Thanks for your reply Chadd. I was just hoping you might verify why I was getting almost only 199 read outs. Was it a ground balance problem or just many deep targets, so deep that the I'D would be off. I will just have to find this out for myself, but thanks again.
Thanks Chadd...I read my manual more carefully and it recommends turning down the sensitivity and slightly backing off the ground balancing slightly by turning counter clockwise. There just can't be that many large pieces of iron like I as seeing...every 6 inches just unbearable to work with. Thanks again for your help. D-boy
Chadd, do you get a lot of falsing with the 8" coil? I have the Titan 3000 XD and have that problem. Even with the Sensitivity turned down. It works well with the 4" coil though.
Thanks. What do you do when it's start going crazy )erratic signals)? Nothing seems to work. Low batteries do that but today mine did that with new batteries... and different values, not only the infamous 199... (I even start suspect the batteries but they are the same as usual...) Sensibility does nothing. Nothing. You can check in normal conditions: makes no difference at all... ??? I've tried to avoid tiny objects by lowering it to minimum: no difference at all: same distance; same size... ???
4:12 what if you just turn the dial until it pick up the coin? will it work? Or the dial only works when you keep pressing alternating the pin point button...?
what kind of fisher dd coil did you put on your BH.3300 ? was it for the the fisher F2, F4, or what, and does it have the push in connector i would like a dd coil on my 3300, and don't wont to buy the . wrong one. thank you
The coil you want to get is for the older fisher units that have the push on connector, www.metaldetector.com/bounty-hunter-11-inch-dd-search-coil-gold-platinum-series
i have this detector and i have issues with it beeping when I swing from side to side...does this mean I just need to ground balance better.?...its used no manual came with it
I have never experienced this with my 3300 but I have seen it on my DFX a few times. Does it beep at the end of the swing when transitioning from one direction to the other? If so you may want to check that your rod and coil are tight and if so you may also want to turn the sensitivity down a little.
This would be the one you want it is for a fisher F2/F4 with push in connector. Double check your 3300 to make sure it still has the push in style connector for the coil.
Yes you can find gold with it, I have found one class ring. One thing to remember is that if you are looking for gold you will dig a lot of foil and pull tabs. There's no real way around it no matter what detector you are using if you want gold you dig trash. Good luck with it.
There are a few coils that you can get for the 3300 there is an 11" DD coil that you can buy that works well. It is marketed for a fisher but it works well on the 3300. This is the coil, you have to get the one with the push on connector. www.metaldetector.com/fisher-11-dd-search-coil-f2-f4-push-in-connector
To my knowledge there are only a few DD coils for the 3300, I think bounty hunter has their own DD but the one that I have is for a fisher F4/F2. Unless they have changed the connector on the 3300 you need to get one with push on connector. This is the one that I have www.metaldetector.com/fisher-11-dd-search-coil-f2-f4-push-in-connector
Chadd Thompson Hey thanks for the response and the link. Wow that coil costs more than the whole unit. Right now you can get a Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300 at Costco for $99
Garrett GTA x400 Discovery 3300 Whites prizm 2 ....hi ...i have a choice between these three detectors ....anyone know which is best....all are the same price
I have not used either the Garrett or the Prizm 2 but unless I am mistaken I don't think either of those two have a manual ground balance, the 3300 does. I myself would rather have something with the ability to adjust the ground balance. Don't take my word for it though as again I have not used either of those two detectors.
Try a Rutus Jupiter from Great Britain or a 'home-grown' machine like the Teknetics Omega 8000, G2, or a Fisher F2, F4, F5, F70, F75 as these a fairly quick machines. As far as lightning-quick recovery times are concerned, it's like a Whites MXT on steroids. Gives you a screen like your Bounty Hunter and looks very much to be a copy of the MXT from Whites but with much faster recovery speeds than the Whites. I know how slow the recovery speeds on these Bounty Hunters are. I own a Bounty Hunter Time Ranger and it is slow like the one you're using. This means good targets (will) be missed if we're in too big of a hurry. Good targets will also be masked by bad targets right next to them. These Bounty Hunters (3300, Time Ranger, Land Ranger, Tracker IV, etc.) could use a (major) reworking of their internal (and factory preset; unfortunately) electronics which manage the recovery speed of these machines. They are all 'duds' in this department unfortunately. It's too bad Bounty Hunter packed all the versatility with their features into these machines but then allowed them to be slow. What a shame.
Prairie G Yep they could be improved upon for sure. I swap back and forth between the 3300 and my Whites DXF. I can't say that I really find more with the DXF but it is far more flexible for different conditions.
Richard Lamberth Hmm there are a lot of detectors out there, you can pick up the BH tracker IV pretty reasonable. It is a good basic detector, I used one for quite a while and I have one for my Daugther to use sometimes.
