Excellent Shawn....you made it look easy....took me some time but I succeeded....5 summers ago...I put together a 5gal bucket of various ways to build fires for my granddaughter....we went on vacation to the mountains and one day at a time we would learn another method...lasted 7 days...vacation over...back to work....lol..
Enjoyed the video! I'd appreciate seeing more videos like this too. I'd also like to see how you assembled the bow from a rib. Looks like it worked really well. Thanks for sharing!
on german youtube there is a ridiculous outdoor hype happening currently. You are showing their holy grail so relaxed and skillful. I enjoy that so much. Nice video.
I'm excited that you're making more bushcraft videos again! Is the coddling tone of your voice part of the mousetrap content or from being a father? You sound so different from your oldest videos.
"It's getting kinda hot" may take the place of " just give it a little flip"! I have found that a big chunk of cottonwood bark makes a great pressure pad (as opposed to a rock or piece of wood). It contains some natural oils that help lubricate the spindle tip and reduce friction.
Nice fast work. One issue I see is you do not say what type of of wood you use. Some wood types works better than others. Nor, how to make that rock holder privet. I would suggest you add that type of info into your video or a supplemental video. Our boy scout troop has used this method also. hit n miss on their success rate.
In school we learned that that was a really hard job to make a fire this way. But after watching that video I guess with some exercise this is not so difficult.
I’m sure you know this method already, but be sure to try and demonstrate the “fire roll” technique. Check out the David West channel (under that title) if you’re unfamiliar with it. It’s a very little known technique, and very easy to learn.
hi shawn i picked up this mousetrap for you. ide like to ship it to you i dont know if you have this partiqular one. is ther a way to send you a pfhoto to make sure im not sending you one you already have. charley.
Can’t believe I’m dragging you… but,be careful when you set the drill down, don’t let the warm end touch the ground it might get damp. You may have to spin some more.. ask me how I know that steam isn’t smoke.
I don't have the patience to pull that off, lol. The most primitive I'll go is a ferro rod, and even then I "cheat" with a cotton ball soaked in alcohol.
