Bow Hunting Whitetails in South Dakota | Buck Truck

Tyler and K.C. keep rolling in the Buck Truck to the great state of South Dakota to meet their friend, Tony Peterson. They look to capitalize on some historical data while hunting public deer on a bed to feed pattern. The drought all but foils their plans, making it pretty difficult to find whitetails in their normally luscious range. With some intensive mapping and scouting, the fellas put together a plan to hunt some new areas in hopes of finding a mature buck. Tragedy strikes, but out of the lowest of lows comes knowledge gained and new stories to share.

What I really appreciate about these guys is they hunt like many of us. They put in the time and effort but don't always get the get the deer. I love the camaraderie between one another and the love for the sport. This is why I hunt! Stay strong and true to who you are and safe hunting fellas!

I hit a 8 point in same spot almost exact angle in 2021. However I shoot Iron Will 125 (cot on contact) with a fairly heavy arrow set up. Iron Will went penetrated shoulder blade & stopped against offside shoulder. As deer ran it cut and cut till the main artery was cut.
@bigald9560
@bigald9560 Год назад
That's how it should work. Good job on the proper arrow setup
@D_Boone
@D_Boone Год назад
If you hit the exact same spot, it would not have hit the shoulder blade. The shoulder blade is significantly higher than that. It would have most likely hit the humorous or the humorous/scapula joint. A good arrow will penetrate that anyway.
@awwjr29
@awwjr29 Год назад
@@D_Boone it penetrated next to scapula near bottom of blade. Think he lifted his leg reacting to the shot. Wish I had picture of shoulder blade.
@D_Boone
@D_Boone Год назад
@@awwjr29 Right. That is what I figured. The blade sits at an angle, so 'under' it is actually all vitals. Ho a lite bit forward though and you hit the humorous.

DAD GUMMIT!! Hindsight is certainly 20/20 my friend. There's is so much happening at once that it all becomes a blur. Mistakes are made and we question our choices and what we would've done different. The choice was made and have to have a short memory with the stuff that isn't in our favor and learn from it. I felt just as sick as you brother when I seen where that arrow hit. Keep after it and putting out this awesome content! BUCK TRUCK!!! 🦌🚛

Need heavier arrows. No excuses for lack of penetration. Mechanicals are a huge point of failure too. Cut on contact fixed blades are the way to go. If your arrow doesn’t fly straight with fixed blades, you have a poorly tuned bow/arrow. The Ranch Fairy has some very good stuff on RU-vid.
@casanovafrankenstein8875
@casanovafrankenstein8875 Год назад
The Ranch Fairy has good advice for high F.O.C arrow setups. A heavy arrow, for the sake of a heavy arrow, is moronic. RF pushes that point as well. (I.E. the FMJ hate)

@garretthorsch8143
@garretthorsch8143 Год назад
@@kygreenskeeper8326 exactly! Its a very tough sport but ultimately rewarding if you keep at it. I work for my step dads farming company so I am very fortunate to have access to many farms here. I am in the midwest where we typically have some of the biggest whitetail in the world. In fact a county near me still to this day holds the record for the biggest whitetail ever taken with a bow. Anyway I have been working hard to set up a lot of bow spots and making it a deer haven. That and I spent the past few months looking for sheds. Found some decent ones but then one day I was hiking down through a bottom and found a shed with the most mass I have ever seen. I am praying that I get a chance at him. Hell I would appreciate just getting to see him in person. That would be enough of a blessing. I don’t typically pay to have any of them mounted. The antlers themselves are my “trophy” along with the food it provides. This buck is something I would spend the money on for a mount though for sure.

Broadhead this, broadhead that. Sure maybe a fixed blade kills this deer, but if the shot was back instead of forward, an expandable makes the deer findable. There's tradeoff with everything. Good and bad with everything. Bad shots happen but not often for ol Tyler. Keep em coming boys.

@@TheElementWild sharp two blades sound like a single or double bevel . What does “they were too much” mean? My experience with expandables have been similar to yours. When everything goes as planned they work. But it’s when things don’t go as expected. The animal jumps. You don’t make a perfect shot , maybe hit forward. My recoveries seem to have gone up when I moved away from expandables. I currently shoot a single bevel cutthroat. Thanks for responding. I really appreciate your open mindedness.

There are so many variables in bow hunting, if you don't feel bad about a bad shot once in a while You're not bow hunting. If you say this hasn't happened to you in my personal opinion you're full of shit, or haven't bow hunted long enough. And also if you don't feel bad about a bad shot, that you feel wasn't good quit bow hunting please. Now I'm only halfway through this video and decided to make this comment and I did it because the thoughts that come across our mind when we are bow hunting are quick and decisive and are not always right. It is a moral ethical dilemma that we face every single time we're in the woods taking life to survive, and yes I know some may say we don't have to do this to survive but there is always that chance that we may have to do this to survive, and personally I like the way the Indians honored their kill for their survival. In my view it seems to be the truest form of respect.
