I had a chance to do a clinic with the great CK Moore at my local House. He taught me the most important thing I have ever learned about bowling and it took me from a being a 170 avg to a 225 avg bowler. Break points. I had no clue about them. Didn't even know they mattered. Come to find out, they matter more than any thing else as far as I can tell. I can go to any House and bowl their House Shot or their Sport Shot and score now. House shots feel so easy now and so I look for Sport shots leagues in my area. I'm a 202 avg on Sport Shots. Getting better at them. As soon as I get to 210 avg I will be looking for the PBA60 regionals.
Love how all these pros from 20+ years ago are makin RU-vid channels, it's awesome. Would be cool if Wiseman or Fagan made channels next, or even Haugen Jr. Always wanted to throw it like Maximum Bob.
I saw the video and immediately subscribed. Very nice camera work (fixed camera next to the lane); I can see the ball at the arrows and on wards to know how you lined up.
Hey Robert! Love that you're doing videos now! Was hoping you would after those two great B7 videos you did a few weeks ago. You have a real gift for teaching and you're very charismatic and great on camera. You remind me of the Bob Ross of Bowling which I mean as the highest of compliments. This video on breakpoints is fantastic, the whole game revolves around them. Once i learned to use them effectively is when I feel I went from beginner to intermediate bowler. Would love to see you do a video on targeting. I have tried to use the three point targeting system but feel there's too much variability at the arrows. If I miss at the arrows by an inch, that's 3 or more inches down lane which is a bad shot for me. As much as I try, I'm just inconsistent trying to play the arrows. I usually look at the breakpoint and try to pitch it to the breakpoint at whatever board I'm targeting. What would you teach about targeting systems and how to improve? Thanks, man. Hope you keep doing videos and enjoy this process. 😋
I'm so glad you decided to make a channel and are going to start making content. You were one of my favorite bowlers to watch growing up and I can't wait to see more from you!
Robert Smith is Awsome as an athlete and as a person. I love the sport and having someone like him basically giving us lessons on his channel is much appreciated…. I wish I could meet this awsome fella….He at one time in his career lived in my hometown of Pataskala, Ohio but I never was lucky enough to run into him anywhere. Thank you Robert for being a great inspiration to all us bowlers and I hope one day I might get lucky and run into you…….
Wow this is crazy. Somebody better text Randy to shoutout the channel on the next PBA show. Even though you sound different I can still hear the guy I watched when I was younger. Maybe you could pick up a voice acting gig somewhere.
I love your videos. They have been a great help for me in getting back into bowling. 4:00 This was the best help and explanation. I tend to overthink the ball change more; instead of the green flag.
Hey Robert, are you turning the wrist and causing the thumb to go to 12 o clock an the fingers continue around or how does the wrist actually work with the shot?
I struggle watching my at the breakpoint and understanding how to adjust, even tho I'm a solid 215+ avg. This helps and I'm going to work on focusing on this more! 🙌👏👍
To borrow Mr. Smith’s own words from an old PBA telecast: "Welcome back, Bobby! Welcome back!" Good to see you still throwing pins around like shrapnel. And thanks for the tip.
This was EYE OPENING! I have a very high rev rate and I always tend to make blind moves with my feet when I should be "making myself the last priority" when making adjustments. Awesome Vid, Bob! Lifelong fan here!
Just hit me a few minutes in that this was “THE ROBERT SMITH”. Aging well my guy! Glad to see you making videos. Loved watching you on the tour back in the day. Subscribing for sure.
I’m so happy to see you bowling again met you way back on Long Island New York probably over 20 years ago and can’t say enough about how nice of a person you were to me and everyone else that was there and definitely one of the most talented bowlers of all time in my book
I am a Senior 1960's style Full Roller with ultra low revs (90 rpms) and low ball speed (12-13 mph launch) What is your recommendation for a breakpoint for straight bowlers like myself on house shots?
Great video. Glad I found your channel. Big fan of yours. I'm getting back into the sport after years of injury, etc. It's been a really great process as I'm able to have my teenage sons bowl with me and learn the sport. My oldest just rolled a 264 on Sunday. He had the front 9. Anyway, glad to see you're still at it and I can't wait to watch your videos and hope to see you on TV. Best wishes to you.
How do you determine your break point on different patterns? Do you do PL - 31 or something else? I haven't bowled on sport patterns yet, so not sure if the pl - 31 works for those or what you do to determine where to target down lane. Can you explain or make a video for how to determine and find your break point on different patterns. Thanks. GREAT video, by the way. First time I've watched you, and I subscribed immediately. Looking forward to learning more from you Mr. Smith.
Hi Robert great information. I enjoyed breakpoint but also your release video. I always have trouble topping and getting on side of ball. I am 63 havea12 mph with a 15 l. Ball. Have been trying to seed up my approach h but cause me to pull ball. I also have thumb release issues. Should Irelease mythumb or should it release itself
I really like watching you throw the arctic vibe was looking in to this but just received a new Hammer Black Widow Toxin Hyband it hits like a cinder block. I have a question though how much does layout have on the ball effect the roll and reaction of the ball
In your opinion is a BP @7 a good “starting reference point” on a house shot. Great content sir!! Always been a fan and great to see your perspective on lining up!
So is the break point always on the 7 board on a house shot and when you shoot at spares using the break point do you target the break point with your eyes?
do you have a kid on the PBA? you can't be the real Robert Smith on the PBA your twice his age it looks like to me! I'll look on the PBA page maybe its been a few decades since I seen yeah?
his is the Robert Smith I know on the PBA tour: Robert Smith (born January 16, 1974) hes only 50 years old. this is NOT you, RIGHT!? dam your voice nasty? looks vary old way over 50 I mean? today is 5-2-24
