Today we honor and remember the legacy of my dad, Mo Pinel, by getting the opportunity to throw and discuss the AMF SUMO. This ball helped begin his legacy in revolutionizing the technology of our sport. I was amazed at how well it holds up still today. The first ball I ever bought was a Sumo, and I still have it . I've been debating wheather or not to go back to bowling. Learning of Mo's passing today, I now have to , for Mo, for his passion, in his memory. Godspeed Mo.

A great ball Mikey, as the AMF ad stated it was designed at 16lbs to hit like its 20lbs. and it does that to a T.

I appreciate so much you keep doing videos about Mo’s professional career because I knew about him a few years ago (2019) . I am engineer too and I understand that part he gave us for improving the bowling . In the 80’s I saw few games that seemed to be boring for me cause the path was always the same: straight. Thanks to Mo and a few more, this game become challenging. I didn’t see it before and now, with his knowledge applied to the game, Mo showed us that bowling can be so defiant as many other games. Nowadays I want to continue honoring him using his cores, coverstocks, layouts, and so many tools he gave us to have a better experience when we bowl. He deserves a place in the USBC Hall of Fame as “The Einstein of bowling”. Saludos y respeto desde México.

Mikey, I don’t know you, but I’m glad you’re making these videos. Your dad was one of the radicals and changed bowling forever with his innovations and designs. Many things that make the modern game are taken for granted now but were revolutionary back in the day and are a direct result of your dads hard work and dedication. Keep making these videos. Good work.

Sorry to hear about your father! My condolences!!! I owned a sumo when they came out, I was and still am a thumbless 1 handed bowler and this ball absolutely ripped, and I just recently found out that Mo designed that ball, I never thrown radical but always watched his videos especially when they were about ball motion and weight holes

I didn't know Mo Pinel designed the Sumo for AMF. It's a great ball. I still use the purple plastic version as my spare ball / dry lane ball.

Wow! I have an undrilled one. I am highly debating drilling it... maybe if we get 10k subs...
@evanscott9473
@evanscott9473 2 года назад
I think I might have the purple version. Is it so dark that it almost looks black? I was planning to order a Brunswick Crown Jewel as a spare ball. Is the purple Sumo a spare ball, or could I use it as my primary? I haven't tried it yet. Needs to be re-drilled.
@atomant830
@atomant830 2 года назад
@@evanscott9473 No, the Purple Passion Sumo is a 2 piece ball with the same weight block as the original Sumo. It has a plastic coverstock instead of urethane. It can be used as a first ball on dry lanes and the carry is very good.

I wish amf would bring the original sumo urethane and sumo plastic. Same color same covers same cores . Even same finishes. They would sell like hot cakes in my opinion and I would buy one for sure.

Mikey, i do not know how many shots you cut out of that one but it looked a much more controllable roll for you compared to the U-motion on the league videos!!?? Really cool to be able to have something that was fabricated by your dad in the bag. Carrying him with you in your heart and your hand!!
@BowlingScience
@BowlingScience 3 года назад
You are right, it is smoother, but just as strong overall in hook. I only cut out maybe 3 shots in 3 games. I have used this ball for 15 games so far across 3 different houses and am averaging nearly 250 with it. It is spooky good.

Just a random RU-vid viewer here. Keep your head up and my thoughts go with you after your loss. When was the Sumo released? I think I might have been a teenager at the time. Looks pretty impressive. Keep doing your thing. I enjoy your vids.

Dear Mr. Pinel... I recently acquired a AMF Sumo SE F80. Is has a USBC (registration #?) 18GSUE17W038. Is there anyway from these numbers to determine what year this ball was manufactured and any relevant stats.. Thank you for your time to read this comment. Sincerely, Jason Siegel
@BowlingScience
@BowlingScience Год назад
The SE was a remake made like 5 years ago when 900 global owned the amf name. Not sure how their serial numbers worked as it was manufactured in San Antonio.

@@BowlingScience Same situation as SPI, first 2 digits state the manufacturer year. So in this case 2018.

It's a strong layout that does lend itself well to balls that are in the .030 diff range and under. I also use it on Urethane almost always. It is very similar to Osku's benchmark 40 x 4 x 20 layout.
